Hey Dave,

Pretty good. There's something bugging me about the piece tho, but I'm *exactly* sure what it is.
I think in part it has to do with the composition - it's looking like it wants to be a dynamic piece, but it seems to be falling short somehow.

(scratching head and thinking for a moment...)

Okay, your figures are pretty well on. No critiques to speak of there. I'd possibly work on faces some, but other than that, they seem to be okay in my opinion. I do think it's a compositional issue that I seeing - there's no real focal point - my eye just sort of wanders all over the group. I think if you lost the goblin with the yellow hat (or moved him) and adjusted the one with the spear to a more menacing positon (like pointing at the guys face) it would work better. That's all I'm seeing at the moment.

Just my 2 cents worth. Hope it helps.

thanks Oregano, after I got started, I had that feeling the the composition needed some work. Just a quick question to those of you out there. Does anyone do their drawings in layors? I can ditch the goblin with the yellow hat without much hasle, but the other one with the spear...well, that would take a bit more work. If I had done him on a seperate layer completly, I might try it. Whare are some of the advantages/disadvantages?

hey Dave,

It depends on what medium I'm working in. If it's digital, I typically work in layers. If it's traditional stuff, then I don't :D -- sorry, couldn't resist.

Anyway, yeah. I do a lot of work in layers. I have one that I'm working on in PS7 that has a seperate folder for each body part - head, body, right arm, etc. I'm doing this for each charcter in the piece. It's a bit of an extreme, but it works out well - you can see one of the characters here (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=14460) down towards the bottom.

I've been carrying over the same basic idea of layers over into Painter as well, and that seems to working to keep me out of too much trouble.
