Hi everyone, I'm Edwin David aka dwinbotp here at CA and at most other sites I frequent. Mostly I'm just a lurker and an art afficionado and I try to participate in art contests rather randomly, but mostly a lurker LOL. Thought I'd share some of my mess, crits are welcome, i'm still a newbie and have so much to gain from peers since I'm self taught pretty much all these years. Enough babble, here's a few stuff...

lol great stuff you've got here, the girl with katanas has very nice details, what am i saying...everything has nice details :]

February 17th, 2009, 01:48 PM
nice stuff, very nice. I am lovin the anime. one crit about your super girl. her left boob/right side of screen is way to high up. I would suggest lowering it a bit. but love the detail.

syms thanks man for dropping by :)

spaztastic thanks for the crit, will get to it soon. Glad you liked the anime style:)

I recently found out about the competitions here at CA. These Chows have been most fun and I've been entering(or at least) try to enter each new one that comes along. Truly inspiring works from everyone, hope to do the same someday:)

CHOW146 Titiana, CHOW147 Baba Yaga and currently finishing up CHOW148, some private Investigator named E.G. Brownstone(whattaname!)

Fantastic stuff.
Your inked work is awesome, and the fully rendered images look great.
That Baba Yaga is creepy!

You recent colours in the chows are excellent. The anatomy is very good already, just some minor issues (Titanias boobs for example). The b&w are also very nice, I especially like the second one. Nice pose on that one.
Wondergirl really seems low quality for you. It just doesn't work for me, colour and composition-wise. The lensflare is the biggest problem I guess. Paint a sun if you'd like it to be there, it would actually look pretty fierce, but don't rely on those techniques.

February 19th, 2009, 06:36 PM
Thanks Janos for your input, much appreciated. The supergirl piece was done a few years back when I was struggling to use Photoshop hehe, actually I'm still struggling, started using Painter and stopped using PS, now I'm back on the PS since my Painter conked out an won't open these days. Oh, WTH, I do plan on redoing her, maybe a different pose but something similar:)

some more stuff I found while backing up files:)

recent Chow entry WIPs and one that I think is finished, don't wanna play with it anymore :D
The latest CHOW is Female Sith Lord, I wanted to see if a Mandalorian Fett would look is he(Boba) has any offspring(hidden) to turn into the Dark side.

hahah love the last piece int he last post (Gotcha!!!) . Interesting works in overall. But in some of them the colors are kinda harsh and ruin the mood , or the mood that the painting wants to create.

zaorr, zweiDee,Grandmassa Mr. Spect Glad you loved the AVP, was so much fun to do,, much appreciated guys! :D
zeo-x I used to sneak looks at my sister's homework and lessons during college(she took up fine arts) and would take a crack at them at times. I envied her then but I'm quite happy with how my stuff turned out anyway. Always learning still though:)
Josef K.I'll try to update this book often, thanks for the words of encouragement, I need it! :yum:
UCT thanks, I'm making it a habit to try to enter the CHOWS every week. COW too! and it's confusing to see how other people vote, general consensus and all that but I think it's really good practice and I'm having fun along the way. Who knows? someday I may be lucky enough to win one, hahaha.

small update: my current Chow entry, an initial concept for the next COW and after seeing the GIJOE trailer, I felt like a sketch :)

yay, snake eyes :)

youve got a real talet for keeping your characters and pieces away from static and boring. Really digging your style, and the light in the queens consort piece is very good. the way his coat wraps around to the back of his left leg makes for a bit of a weird transition though. My eye keeps drifting back to that part of it like something doesnt look qite right.

Much kudos on sharing your work, its inspirational :)

Regards, Mimer.

March 12th, 2009, 02:46 PM

Tomorrow-Man hehehe, I kinda stopped caring about the ratings, it's not an accurate gauge for happiness:) Keep dropping by, I'll keep updating:)
Ogreboy, meticulous Thanks guys! :D
mimer Thanks for the crit and encouragement! Snake Eyes FTW!!!
jatherip glad you like the pencils! I miss my old concepts dome on paper, so I found a few of them and decided to add them here, hope these are ok, done a long time ago when I was creating stuff like crazy, now I'm pushing myself more towards colored stuff. I plan to paintover them soon I hope:)

Don't you just f%#king hate it when bad things happen to good people? I mean the really nice ones? A close buddy of mine fell into a coma recently due to a car accident last week and I've dedicated my latest chow entry for him. I hope he gets better soon. Love ya bro!

I'm not sure, but sth is telling me that you're going to get some people freaked out with your work in 2 years if you keep on going like this!

You're already a very good artist.

I'd like to see some studies from you... Can you show them?

Best to you.

Michael Stewart I kinda like mixing the 2 styles! will make more soon, hehe
Dan Valkar Thanks bro:)
Eric Gerhard I'll try to post some studies next time but I hardly ever do any(I'm lazy) I try to move past the concepts and ideas and go pretty much straight to finished piece.
AlexTooth Thanks for the well wishes, been hanging around hospital lately, never really liked any, such a cold feeling engulfs me. I'll keep updating this SB, stick around man :)

Pixie Trick
March 17th, 2009, 07:51 AM
Marvelous stuff here. Your pencils are beautiful, and I love the cartoons. The only things I can vaguely crit. are that your light sources tend to be forgotten at times, and that colours get a bit garish. Most of the time you manage to balance it out, but it can get overwhelming. You have great grasp of form too.

Josef K.
March 17th, 2009, 09:34 AM

Josef K. Thanks man, and I will be finishing the last one but I'm gonna take it slow and make it more detailed than I'm used to doing for other pieces as it's my official entry to DW4.

April 3rd, 2009, 01:28 AM
Posting this for my other Team Chow teammates. Guys, you know who you are, pm or email me or post your thoughts right here, lemme know what you guys think of my initial six.
I purposely chose the post apocalyptic setting so as not to force everyone doing super clean pieces and since our styles will vary for sure, it pays to add the "looseness" factor on our final pieces, dunno if I make sense LOL! The common theme tying the characters together would be "sand" and color would be beige/ocher-like. here's my simple concepts for the team based on the brief:)

HunterKiller_
April 3rd, 2009, 01:43 AM
Beautiful stuff, 5 stars.

I particular like your pencil manga drawings. They're very 'old school'.

Ghostbrush
April 3rd, 2009, 03:52 AM
Hey Dwinbotp, liking ur initial sketches, there is enough difference between them to tell they are different characters, but also enough similarities to suggest they are the same rag tag bunch, post apocalyptic theme seems like a good choice atm, seeing as this is new, offers a lil bit more freedom till we find our feet with it ya know.

will PM you :)

Boom. There you go, promise to return fulfilled :) . I really like the way you’ve pulled out this newest character’s silhouette. Very strong. And the water raked color mixing in the background is great. The only thing that bugs me is that collar of light he’s got going on. It looks confining, like it would limit his ability to move.
