Great gestures!
I really like the 2nd page.. and especially the kneeling one on the bottom left and the stretching one on the top right..
Keep em coming!
Maybe on your next round add hands, because they carry alot of gesture just in themselves...

Nice studies Ken. I just started reading Bridgman's Life Drawing (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0486227103/qid=1036094804/sr=2-3/ref=sr_2_3/104-8252442-2734346) and it so far it seems to be heading in this sort of direction, doing these kind of studies. I hope so... this sort of thing seems like it would be great to learn.

Stunning as per Mr Chen.
Is that a really light grade charcoal you're using?. So you use that and then apply some darks with another grade?.
With the lighter stick do you intentionally wear down an edge so its not too sharp, so as to have nice wider strokes?
Compressed charcoal & newsprint?.
(sorry for all the questions, but I'm damn interested to know...obviously)

lukias!....howdy! hehe.
this is a bit funny, luke, when i saw the great mr chens sketches up top [after spying the other chen posts], i thought i would ask him about what appears to be 2 grades of charcoal....tadahh!..you asked the same question!..haha.
ok kchen, yes,,please, im guessing also -two grades..pencil or small compressed charcoal/conte ?
thanks for posting, lukias introduced me to your drawings a couple of weeks ago, really like your ability. ...im a drawing nut from the fine art side of the fence. visit if you like..

Thanks! I'll post more up as I draw more.
Blind,
You should look up Glen Vilppu. He has some great books and notes on drawing with forms. His stuff is easier to follow than Bridgeman.
Lukias,
These are done on smooth newsprint for the smoother shading. I use conte or charcoal and use the same medium from begining to finish. I sharpen the charcoal to a long taper point so I can use both the tip and the side to control edge. I use softer charcoal if I am doing a very large drawing.
iwasink,
It depends on your major. I know for illustration they want to see a lot of figure drawing and hints to see if you are serious about art. Other than that it is better to ask the school councilors to see what they want to see. I haven't got a chance to be in the review process and don't know how they judge. I got in with all figure drawings and sketchbooks while my friend got in with figure drawings and graffite designs.

Ericbraks,
Wow, I just checked out your work. You have a very subtle touch to your work. I like the texture of the skin that you are able to capture. Thanks for posting your site!
