Honored I am to have such review.

these for the most part are Digtal tone made over pencil sketches.
I will perhaps post my tutorial on doing tone by hand.. it's pretty long but worth a good read..

Holy smoly! It started off good with the fantasy stuff, wizard, odin and the egyptian fella, then it just got better with the iinda french style space suit/robodudes and dudettes. And the vehicles and perspective is really good!

May 15th, 2003, 06:33 AM
Thanks all:)
-To answer a few questions,
all of the tone I've used in these works are digital. I cannot, unfortunately discuss my method in full, but I can say that I use both tonework and patterns digitally and the traditional cut-peal and stick way. * for reasons that the soft that I use is not sold overseas, and the soft is not supported in english (and that what I use is a sevice I can provide to my own work), I have chosen not yet to disclose this method of yet.) -This may change however in the future.
-For a full tutorial (which I think I've posted in the life drawing tutorial by mistake), there is a full explaination on how to use regular tone which is the applied film way. Well worthg reading if you have the time..
Best,
and thanks again:)

Thanks to all again,
It's a great thing to draw things like this, but it's even more of a reward to have the work viewed and enjoyed by an audience.
-I still need to work out a lot with my pallet, I think the drawing part is one, but coloring another. Some of the color needs unification in tonal value and structure, and some of the values are to hot with saturation.
-This I hope to better.
Be it that,
I am pleased that all enjoyed some aspect of the work.
to answer a few questions,
I do have a site at :
http://www.tonikoro.com
-As for whether I'm pro or Not,
that's an interesting question. -Of which I'm not sure I know yet or not. I have done a few tid-bits in comics, but not heavy books. It's a difficult thing to be the man on the rise in comics, many don't want to pick a guy they don't know will sell of the racks. I'm hoping to change that, but till then, I don't know if I can say quite "PRO" yet. I do have a few things in the works. We'll just to see how they pan out:)
As for this little number, I'll draw it and post it to this thread until it becomes enough to make up an issue or so. Then I'll PDF it and maybe offer it off my site.
Fully web comic born:D
Thanks again :)

-Coffee after work,
and couldn't be sooner - Summer Vacation! Yesssss!!
-What was funny was I was sitting outside sketching at a starbucks next to the train station, sketching the passer-bys and a girl inside was watching me sketch through the window. When I got up to leave, she ran outside to ask me why I sat sketching people. I told her what I did, and she then produced a nifty little sketch of me drawing, coffee on the table, my smokes, and me sitting there..
Just funny..

marry me.
Seriously, I love this stuff. It's so...thick. Great sense of narrative in ALL the poses. That's one thing that frustrates me about a lot of 'comic' artists these days, they think they can get by with just a static pose and hope the dialogue does the rest (i'm horribly guilty of that). You've avoided this problem entirely. More is required.

wow :D
Thanks guys,
It's Hot as hell here in Japan.. Sweating my ass off trying to produce two comics at once. These are a mix of real people drawn from life, and people I made up. like the coffee post from before, there's a stoplight there where the starbucks is. It's right in front of a train station, so there is a cycle of crowds coming and going. Makes it fun to sketch people.
-Really glad you guys like this stuff.
I have a growing pile going. It's getting unruley because I buy now a ream of paper, and go at it.
More soon to come. :)

You definatly have some awesome stuff on here. However, i must say i do enjoy your sketchbook and loose pen stuff a LOT more than the shirow inspired stuff that seems to be all you do in comics. Its good to see you are developing your own style in your sketchs, shirow is great but an artist must develop his own way of illustrating the world.

damn dude,
its always great to see someone who utilizes the WHOLE PAGE and just fills it with all sorts a stuff, i know that when i get caught up in one drawing i tend to stop with just that one on it and go to the next instead of having 5 or 20 great drawings on one page. looking at your stuff is definatly making me re-evaluate my use of my sketchbook.
keep 'em coming pretty please with sugar on top

I've been on Rakugaki-Sketch Mode[ON] for the last week, and have been working on a few Adult themed works. Mind you the nature of these images, I have an actual reason for producing them, and appologize if there are those that are offended.
View discression is advised if you are viewing from a public, or work place.
at any rate,
here we go..

Stay tuned!

Yes, I know his work :D -The Unfortunate part is I'd have to order some of his books on the web here in Japan. Feel bad that I did not buy more of his stuff when I was living in the States. ;) -But like his work I do :D

Great sketches as usual... I didn't notice the Adult content warning since I visit this thread often. Right when I got to the hard stuff my 75 year old office mate turned around and got an eyeful. She doesn't say much to me anymore... thanks Koro! :chug:

I have some others I will post, of a non-erotic nature, but I'll need to save out the session of sketches, and might drop some color on a few of them..

Thanks, yes late nights are sort of the enevitable, but best for concentrating and also for seeing the true color of my shitty monitor.:D -Funny that you would mention Anubis, I did do one which was apart of a comic I was doing at the time, but I never posted thinking that the version I did was not to par with the other sketches. Thanks again;)
BadWeather
Thanks, and thanks again for the encouragement about the erotics.
-I am to some degree hoping that the erotic works don't foreshadow a bad light on the Non-erotics (Like actors get type-cast into a role), but I'm going there. If there are those that dig it, I'm pleased to have the audience at any rate. ;)
Legato
haha - Sorry if you find there are a few that are shocking, or even offensive. However, while I'm going the erotic stretch, I can't be a "DullBoy". I am making an effort to keep integrity on various themes erotic and non-erotic, and that is why I've mixed the content in to one consistant thread while giving the appropriate warnings (i.e. **Adult Content - Included**).
Jermainevl
Hahaha! - Disgusting, yet wanting more;) well, here we are. This will be the last for a stretch, but I will have some that will see the likes in print, so staytuned for news;)
Best, and thanks again :D

Damn, Ur up there with the unmortals man!
I love your technical stuff and your humans. And the sketches - great stuff!
Interessting how U said doing the start was the hardest part. Ive heard that from some comicillustrators - that they even re-do the start sometimes when the whole album is finished?
Doing comics includes so much of pace and storytelling, its extremely difficult. :/
Ill keep watching here (as so many others!) :D

Thanks, I'm only trying to do my best to keep in league with those whos work I've grown watching, reading, and loving, but in that, finding or creating the type of work that I myself would love to read. Might be why my comic book buying has slowed in recent. I go to the shops to buy, but I get sort of down from nothing to buy, and end up getting inspired to draw the kinds of comics I'd want to read. So, in a way it's like self-gratification.
:D

hey Koro kool about the DC comics work...
mebby they saw some of your perverted stuff _laugh_
they are a strictly by the book company and won't hire any artist who has a body of erotic work... take a look at tim vigil he will never work at DC even though in my book he is in my top 3 comicbook artists of all time...
1. the guy who did little nemo in slumberland--- like in the early 1900's
2.al willamson
3. tim vigil
4. ect ect...

-I somewhat doubt that is the case. At the time I did some initial work for them, I was in communication with an editor that I was working with at the time, and that editor is no longer under the D.C. employ. Quite simply, I think I rather just slipped out of sight and mind with them. I know a bit about doing comics in the States, but if your are not on top of editors, it is quite easy to fall of the radar as a new up and coming.;)
But then again, as the porn stuff was said, even for publishers that are "buy the book" as you would say, guys like Shirow still do really explicit work and still get published as a more legit creator. so I ask, why be shunned by doing erotic works? why place the barrier over comics because we feel that comics is for younger readers and guys that put them in plastic baggies for years to come, so that they can be bartered on collector markets? ;)
