I’ve been working on this off and on for the past couple of months trying to get it completed for Expose2. This guy was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed working on it.

DUDE!! I totally dig the textures on this one. My only gripe is that his right eye (on our left) seems out of proportion/perspective and not intentionally so. Also, it would be nice to "push" the greasy hair effect a little further. It is a personal pet peeve of mine to do hair digitally since finding the happy medium between individual strands and a blob of hair-shaped goo is hard to hit (for me). So whenever I see clearly defined lines that don't blend well, it kinda reminds me of how much I suck at doing hair. Um, that's my 2 cents.

Nice colors! My only critique is his right eye - it seems smaller(deformed) and out of perspective.
Funny guy though :)

Bobo, a question about your painting technique with this one.
Did you do the painting as you normally would, then once you had it finish use some textures (cracked cement, etc..) as an over-lay? Much like StrangeFate from Polycount did with his beast painting months ago? I ask because there's a noticable crack running from the strap over his right shoulder (left to us) that runs directly onto his vest. I'm pretty sure you've done it this way but I'd like to know for sure. It's a fun technique that can add character to a rather dry painting.**
And could you explain how you did the background?
Thanks.
-Yoko
**: Not saying YOUR painting is dry, it's absolutely not. But that technique DOES help in most cases to other paintings that may need it.
EDIT: The most impressive part of this piece, to me, is his tie. Wow.

This is an awesome piece! I really love this a lot, the textures and everything remind me of those old Earthworm Jim paintings by Michael Koelsch. Very cool. Along with everyone else, I am really interested in how you got such vivid textures, I would love for you to post a demo or to direct us to one on your website.

Thanks again guys!
Yes this was done in the same manor as I do my game textures (minus the vertex bake). Here is a mini tutorial I wrote a year ago. The only thing I do differently now is I use less dodge and burn and work with painting direct colors a lot more:

Are you planning to submitt more???
I have some stuff I need to finish up. I think the Expose' idea is just amazing..and the fact that it's free is AMAZING ...that's the way it shouldbe.
