Well, since I've had this account for such a long time without posting anything... I'd thought I'd actually start posting things. At least in the sketchbook section, since I don't really have any works that's worthy of being posted in "It's finally finished!" section.

So here goes!

My first post on conceptart.org:

A semi-quick and dirty redesign of Robin Hood. I have sketched thumbnails, but I'll post that at another time.

I definitely want to make the design better and look more "badass."

Any help would be appreciated.

I like the bow idea and the piece itself is nice. Not much I can say, just do like 1 million times more of it =D ^_^ Happy days!

Thanks for the comments!

I got around to doing another one, and I feel like I'm trying too hard to make the painting look loose. I just can't grasp the concept... Oh well, just gotta keep practicing.

C&C are all welcome.

this second one is much better... only the bow is still sketchy, the rest is awesome.

Dominance War has finally begun!

Here are some thumbnail silhouettes I've conjured up for the contest. Many people liked the last few on the bottom, which I dig as well.

What do you guys think?

This is a re-design of a previous character (http://geeshin.deviantart.com/art/Character-concept-sheet-86406719) I've made a while back.

I have definitely made some self-improvements, but not enough...

C&C are welcome.

A character design for class based on Dominance War IV specs. This is my Norm Warlord.

And the second one is a western themed character that I revisited from a previous concept design.

c&c are welcome.

Hmmm... it's been a while since my last post. I did not know they take down images if the thread is inactive for a while. Ah well!

This is a Sith Lord concept I did for a club at school. It was pretty much, design a sith. My idea for this guy was to have him be a ranged fighter, so he'll manipulate lightsabers with the force to attack his foes. Multiple lightsabers were collected from fallen Jedis.

Critiques would be much appreciated, or any comments at that.

Thanks for dropping by!

Just a few master studies I've done in the past few weeks.

Here's a small update of some school work.

The idea I had was to create a young boy who had a wild and fun imagination. And he built this huge makeshift fort on his playground. The fort is dubbed, Fort Rysk. In this fort, he watches over the streets for any intruders and protects his home. (I actually forgot to draw in a telescope at the top).

Final touches are being made to the fort, as well as adding a few other elements. Any suggestions, comments, feedback/critique would be much appreciated.

Hey all, got some more work to show.

The first is just some random mobile home out in the middle of the desert. I may take this one further and add something else to it. Maybe give it some sort of "end of the world" type of feel.

The next two are some air ship ideas for a project I'm working on. I'm actually redesigning some characters from Peter Pan, and I'm starting off with Captain Hook's air ship. I am attempting to follow the art direction of the game "The Agency." I am currently working on the engine design for this.

The last one was a quick doodle I did during class. He is one of the characters from Seven Samurai, which I have not seen yet.... Hopefully I can get around to watching that.

Anywho, any critiques, comments, and/or feedback would be much appreciated. Especially for the air ship.

i really like the thumbs for your dominance war character and the sith concept is pretty cool even though I'm not a big fan of star wars...

Thanks pkhenhen! I like Star Wars, but probably not as much as some people =P

Just thought I'd post a few more things here to get feedback on.

These are some face/color/portrait studies I've done from reference in the last month and a half or so. Can you guys guess who they are?

I could only figure out the captain from pirates of the Caribbean, although I don't watch tv so the likeness could be really good for all I know. I especially like your character design sketches and your sith character idea is pretty cool. Don't have much crit to give unfortunately. Looks like you are working pretty hard so keep it up man.

Thank you James. The other two are from Dexter (Show Time) and the actor Sean Bean.

A while ago I made a portrait of Christian Bale in his 3:10 to Yuma movie. I went back and redid it.

You can see the older version in my blog. The link is below in my signature.

A Diablo III inspired barbarian. Still a WIP, and I'm trying to figure out what to do with the leggings...

hey dude i really really love the fort rysk idea, and generally you seem to push for unique ideas. i'd love to see the trailer in the desert piece changed up, i think if you add some sky to the left the composition would speak more. really loving the colour on the portraits, though i think its a bit saturated maybe? maybe limit your pallette exeriment with retricting yourself.

and for your airship its a cool design but im confused as to the scale, the radio tower i imagine to be built of average sized rooms, but that would make the guns gigantic. thats cool but i think you need to communicate the scale clearer,

geeshin
December 19th, 2009, 10:10 PM
Thanks Nrx! I try my best to make things "unique" but damn, is it difficult! I may go back to the sky one and do something with it, give it a end of the world feel to it possibly. I agree now that I look at it again, the clouds above the mobile home is kind of blending in with it. I will keep the saturation in mind on the next portrait study I do. And yes, I've been having a lot of trouble trying to show scale without having any people on it. But I did want the main tower to be somewhat larger. I tried to show scale through the metal panels on the ship, but I guess it's not working haha It is still a WIP, so hopefully I'll get it done in due time.

Thanks for your critiques! I really do appreciate it.

Hey man nice start,

You have a nice style. Liking the silhouettes alot (something ive been meaning to try myself).

Good to see another Kurasawa fan!! Toshiro Mifune rules. (Hence my username, Kambei Shimada was the old samurai in the film)

Keep on posting dude.

DoktorNo - Thanks for your comment! As far as time goes... it varies from 1 hour to 8+ hours. It depends how committed I am to the drawing at the time. For the demon one, I initially spent about 3 hours on it, then noodled on it off and on while doing other things throughout the day.

Kambei - Thanks! I feel that silhouettes is a really fast way to generate cool ideas for anything. It's also important to have an interesting silhouette that is unique. That's what I've learned anyway... aha

Farin - Thanks! Maybe I'll model it someday.. I'm not too sure if I'll continue doing concepts for these. Maybe a friend of Samuel's? Or perhaps a sibling... hmmmm.... We shall see!

Thanks Cameli! I am leveling up as fast as I can! =]

I was inspired to do something stylized after a workshop last Saturday, so I drew up an old drunk samurai.

Then I tweaked it to give him more realistic proportions.

c&c are all welcome!

Thanks for the critique! I've never really thought about using a gesture on a standard, generic'ish pose. I feel it's needed in more of an action pose or in movement. I'll give the gesture a shot on the next one though! Thanks again Mr. Alamo!

Hi, thanks for the comment. I am trying to improve in all aspects of CA. Nice paitings here, thats someting I will have to learn. Do you use pencil drawings before you start paiting? Thats what I do... you can see it in my stuff. Keep up the good work :yayca:

Fregy - Not a problem =] I used to just sketch and scan in my things all the time, but I have not done that too much as of late. That is something I will have to go back to though. I feel I generate ideas/thumbs faster that way.

Tinkerbell Concept. I'm actually designing her as a vehicle instead of an actual character. I thought I'd take this into a completely different direction. Peter will be piloting "her." I'll be rendering this in the near future.

Any suggestions?

Here are some sketches/drawings I've done in the past month. They can always use some revisions and I'm willing to take any critiques.

Most of these are a Peter Pan redesign. So it's more of a mercenary sky pirate theme.

This is Wendy - She gives intel to Peter.
