blobs, chukw,LauraR -Thanx, I was pretty happy with this one....cool to hear others like it too.
behemot5-I did a rough sketch for composition, transfered that to bristol board, then did tight pencils and inked it...the frame design was an after thought that i drew sparately then added to the illo in photoshop...I also added a few greys and color tinted the illo in photoshop...
I referenced myself in the mirror a few times for lighting on the main character and was inspired by a photo for the positioning of the female creature on the ceiling...the rest was from my head.
grey,Jebus- I didn't have Escher or Giger in mind for this illo and was surprised to hear the comparisons (though it's kewl to hear)...I did look through a Giger book recently and will probably check out his stuff a little closer when I get a chance...the band Skinny Puppy was probably more of an influence than any illustrators on this one.
Noodle- I've never seen Blade 2, so i didn't get any inspiration from that movie...I do like Bradstreet's work and I know he did some concept work on Blade 2...hopefully I can check that film out one of these days
Thanx for the comments!

Those pins coming out of his body would be a real annoyance when crawling through doors.
But nontheless, very nice concept.

Very Nice! Just to be a bitch, my one small nitpick would actualy be a suggestion. The twisted pillars would be even cooler if the lines making them were more crooked and uneven, suggesting wear over time. Ace work. Great shadow play.

very Berni Wrightson/Michael Wm. Kaluta'ish..
perhaps a bit of reflected light, or a back light to the main creature's left side? (viewer right side) - it would further refine the torso form and allow you to hint at a bit more detail.
given light-source direction; should the forked-tongue cast a shadow?
the square column at the bottom of the piece (rising up to meet the larger circular wall) - if it's supposed to be angled it does work, but then the large architectural mortise (just above the facing creature's head) seems to have a different perspective. the large mortise seems flat in 3d space – not angled or curved like the wall above or column behind it.
my main crit would be, the borders;
while nicely executed, they seem overly detailed and compete with the main scene.
i agree with your inclusion of them, but due to the similarity in colors and background contrast i find them a bit distracting. they appear to be semi-transparent "screens" of sorts - i keep looking to them for additional detail and scene information - info that isn't there.
honestly though - this is the best execution of a howling jawless fork-tongued horned creature with bone-handlebars over its ass i have ever seen, man.
nicely disturbing work!. :-) .

It looks alot like it, except mirrored. Or flipped.
Whatever.

Very nice and its great to see some proper cross hatching shading. Looks like a lot of graft went in there.
I like the abstract horror mood. I can see the wrightstone influence as well, I must admit i love doing ink shading in his style, havn't done any for years though....
