Hello,

I started working with GIMP recently, and so far, I have had a look at the most elementary functions of it. I used Artweaver before, which is a much weaker tool, and I have no experience with tools like Photoshop or Painter. Anyway, the GIMP standard brushes do not seem very powerful, so I searched for other brushes and quickly found a huge collection on devianart. But I also found that the most popular brushes over there are brushes for drawing special things, details, like lightning, eyebrows or hair.

I am rather searching for a collection of "simple" brushes, some harder, some weaker, some grainy, some smooth, also some which make it easy to build gradients. Can you give me some hints where to get that? Which was pretty much the first collection of brushes you added to GIMP?

I'm making my own custom-brushes. I attached most of the ones I'm using right now. Apart from that I use the Brush-manager to control the soft or hardness of the standard presets, making eggs, crosses or lines at will. Pretty cool feature. actually.

Also take a look at the Gimp-Painter fork.

Hi,

thank you for your replies!

As I had little time now, I tried the gimp-painter. I went to the Sourceforge page (http://sourceforge.jp/projects/gimp-painter/releases/), downloaded the first file ("gimp-painter--2.6.2_081110_win32_starter.exe"), unzipped it and started the Windows Script file "run_gimp.wsf". The program did launch the way Gimp commonly launches, but all the menues are illegible, they only contain square-like simbols where letters should be. So there must be some kind of text encoding problem. Maybe you know what it is?
