Teen Challenge 59 : [ song title illustration ]
(i hope no one minds me putting up this challenge or else we could scrap it)

TEEN CHALLENGE 59

The Topic: [ song title illustration ] pick any one song that you like , and paint an illustration based on the song's title as the topic .
try to be creative with ideation and try to portray the mood/feel of the song if you can !!
(hint : can be done well if you try to use the lyrics as a description for the illustration , NOT a compulsion !! )
A pretty open topic. i hope this brings in more participants (i hope it hasn't been done before )

IMPORTANT
1. Add a border around your image with your name and the topic, like they do with the other of the week challenges.
2. Please do not use attachment manager, but outside host your image.

There'll be a finals thread that you can post your final result in. This thread is for WIPs and ideas.

Also, submit a thumbnail (150*150, I think). :D

Yay, fun idea!! I need to force myself to do this one.

I'm kind of stuck on what song title to pick because I also want the lyrics to
work with it. I'm going to have to sketch since I don't have a tblet and my
hands, well, aren't that steady. Basically I stopped by to see what others were
thinking. I wont steal anything, just want to hear some ideas.

Well, I've decided to go with The Trooper by Iron Maiden (a nice, classic of theirs :)) The way I picked what song I wanted to do was I made a quick playlist of songs I thought would bring about an interesting picture that went with the lyrics, and some that I always have visuals for when I hear it, but if you want the lyrics to work too, make sure you look them up if you don't know them! Also, be sure to pick a song you love to hear, it helps me anyway to listen to it on repeat while I'm drawing (at least in the beginning) so I can keep seeing the visuals that come about when I listen to the song and jot them onto a piece of paper. Plus, for me anyway, each time the song starts over it fills me with inspiration anew, and I can see the picture I want clear in my mind all over again :)

The Trooper is a nice, iconic piece that already HAS a lot of pictures to go along with it, and the lyrics tell a story, too. Maybe you should try and find a song that kind of tells a story in it's lyrics? I generally find that the ones with stories in them give me awesome visual images when I listen to them. Then, all you have to do is take a mental 'screenshot' of an image in the story, and see if you can make it an interesting piece! Do as many quick thumbnail sketches as you can, just block in main shapes and scribble ideas for what you want to do with the picture on the side, while the image(s) are still fresh in your mind. Every time I do a quick sketch with a particular image in mind, as soon as I look back over my sketch I see the picture as clear as I did the first time.

Of course, this is only what seems to work for me, it might be completely different for you. :)

Hmm...the hand steady-ness I really don't know how to help with exactly. Only thing I can think of is to just practice keeping your wrist still when you draw, and try not to drink too much caffeine or other things that can make you jittery. But having a tablet won't solve that problem, generally tablets are sensitive and will still pick up your hand shaking, at least in my experience. Just try drawing a bit everyday, and keep focusing on keeping that hand steady, I'm sure you'll find ways to keep it in check, or just get rid of it al together! I used to have shaky hands when I started drawing, but just by drawing all the time, I can keep them as still as a dead man's hands! (But not the all, twitchy kind of dead. I mean the not-moving-anymore-dead. :D)

Again, this is only what works for me, so you might have something completely different work for you :)

Now, back to drawing and not winning at the hands of the other awesome teen artists here! (Damn...too many elements of art and design that I need to work on...oh well, I'll learn it all eventually, lol)

Ronald_Liu: The Gorillaz are totally awesome as well. I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with! :D

EDIT: Damn me :( It appears the drawing I want to do for The Trooper has gotten too big out of one idea I had, and I don't think I'll be able to finish before the deadline...I still really want to do it, though, so I'll definitely do it! Not for the contest, though :) Anyway, time to pick another song...

thanks for the advice, it was actually very helpful. I'm probably going to try
doing a drawing based on Broken, Beat, and Scarred by Metallica. Thanks :}
