I'm out of time, but maybe I can clean this up more later, it is in a pretty sorry state still. :(

As I was thinking about what I would like to guard me of course the first thing that came to mind was legions of scantily-clad man servants. But I'm not sure they would entirely qualify as beasts? :p So I moved on... thinking that it would have to be something fairly cuddly that would look nice in the palace (hey, I have personal guardians; I can have a palace too!) and wouldn't scare the guests too much. So... of course, giant cat women! Only problem is they tend to put on airs and like to seduce the man-servents. But at least they're self-cleaning... ;)

We were at the animal museum today - drawing stuffed animals. So this'll kind of fit.

I also took photos on an earlier visit:

Davi: In some odd way that looks almost lupine. Like a hyena-minotaur crossbreed or something.

Decided to do something more whimsical today.

Davi -- nice rendering. love the loose brushstrokes. captures a lot of energy.

Hazzard -- cool sketch. You should color it if you have time.

klaivu -- great work. the rich warms and cools are stunning.

Nice cartoon work Danielh68, I love that expression on the pigbeasts face :P

Here's my personal guardian patrolling the top of my desk vigilantly. I'll finish it later adding something on the desk for scale, but for now here it is.

Halis_Aetrous! Eep yours is scary...but then again I guess that's the point! The hockey mask just gives it that extra effect!

Michael-H-OMg! it's great! how do u draw mechanics so well? I don't do too well with them myself...I'm more the organic type I guess.

All of these are great! I have much to look up to!

I'm a bad person for drawing this. I need to do observational drawings so I can get into any freaking art college.
And I need to finish my 3d animation film which I havn't even started animating. And I have to write 3 essays.
All in the next 4 days.

At least the drawing came out okay. Yes, that's what I'll tell myself.

I had about 30 minutes more to work this more, I primarily wanted to be rid of the horrid faces and add some more interest in the coloring.
Not sure if it's actually better then the first (http://www.velondra.com/images/gallery/285guardian.jpg); any C&C?

http://www.velondra.com/images/gallery/285guardian2.jpg

Plaf, thanks for the welcome back. I'm planning to participate more regularly again over christmas break. :) Love your submissions as always, especially the second one.

Wystro, I'm happy to see you're doing these regularly! I'm also suprised, you're getting good with digital coloring very fast! ;)

Screw it. I'm gonna make comments.

nBT- I dig it (especially the shading style) but I'm confused about what's going on with some of those appendages (sp?).
Terayon- I think you need to turn up the opacity on your brushes. Image is all muddy like. But it's a heck of alot better than the second picture I made with my tablet so kudos. And woot for Texans.
Velo- Great concept. Sexy-kinda.
davi- Always a pleasure. Seems to be a particularily intellegent beast as far as guardians go. Quite grand.
cartoonfox- I love the expression of the guy riding it. And little horn.
Jebus- Ya I don't get it. It must be fine art.
klaivu- Wow. That's just awesome.
Hazzard- Okay they both have pretty good faces but that guys legs have issues. If they have rotated his pelvis, then someone needs to inform his torso.
danielh68- That's cool and I like how it's in a competed scene instead of against a backdrop of pure design, though the bright bright colors aren't for me.
Valcon Jet - Tiny. Different. Cool. Though to tie the creature to the desktop a slight (very slight) reflection might be in order. Because it looks like a pretty glossy desk surface.
Anto- Fucking A man.
Kartoffel- I had that problem. Then I went digital. I still erase constantly but now I use crl Z instead of a block of rubber. Tis faster.
xaviuzz- That's wild man. Love the perpective-osity. Though I feel it could use shaper edges.
Carnifex- Yes the anatomy shows.
Matt Dixon- Wow that's incredible. But you know that. Go you.
indexasp- Welcome to DSG. Interesting peice.

Wow it's 11. I have to go. To everbody I didn't get to, rock on. This has been a great topic so far.

Heh, I've been gone for a while. Stupid scanner...

My focus for this week is drawing the shoulder and upper arm, as well as working on my rendering. So particular attention was paid to the sole visible arm of the beast and the shading of the whole thing.

This was a super fast sketch I did in about a half hour before the shuttle took me to my friend's place where I could scan it... I had so many ideas for this one! I think when I'm not having finals I'll do more.

This is the reason my id is Sapphire... ;) It's Sapphire, my guardian dragon, heavily influenced by Pernese design. She's blue with a silver underbelly and horns when she's colored.
