Hello. This is my first post on Conceptart.org, but it has a very important purpose.
I am currently attending my Foundation Year at Alberta College of Art and Design. I am happy doing what I am doing, but I am unsure of which path to take. I have the ends in mind, but I am unsure of the means.
I wish to be a concept artist. To do character and level art for the game industry. I am having trouble deciding my major at this point, because I am not sure which path has a higher chance of landing me in that career.
My main two options right now are "Drawing/Painting" for a major, and "Visual Communications Design". I'm leaning towards a BFA in Drawing and Painting. One of the problems is that the Design program is work intensive, and the job prospects and such don't look all that great.. so why invest your time, effort and spirit in something that doesn't give anything back?
Anyway, advice from industry professionals would be MUCH appreciated. I am stuck on this issue. Don't worry, it's only my future.. ;)
