This was my process.
1. I posed in the mirror, drew a couple ones that I liked alot in stickfigures.
2. Then I chose one and fleshed out the volumes.
3. Turned on my gamecube and referenced the armor from the profile mode of Soul Calibur 2.

I tried to make all the lines go to a point somewhere above his head to add the the power of the pose. The left shoe isn't there and I'll add it in (in PS) but right now the picture is on the bottom of my paper. I'll add the sword in the same way too.

_things to add
lightning around his hand
more armor

Ahh dont be upset dude....

If I had anything to point out was the leg without the foot drawn in....... the knee is turned a bit too far out it's like he is over extented the rotation of the leg...Try standing with your knee turned that far out and see if it's comfortable. Exaggeration is great at times but that looks off to me.

Your work looks good...

Also make an effort to put up a site it took me a week to make mine last December and I had zero experience...think about it, you post an image and folks will check out your other work, I sometimes look at a site before responding.

Your lines are tight. But, his soft stomach is fatally exposed.

You could also extend the bottom of the canvas a bit and finish the feet. (A peeve of mine is figures standing on the bottom of the frame.) It will definately make him look more solid and grounded.

ChadTX: I wasn't really angry, just annoyed when I looked up and down and saw that everyone had a comment, except mine! thx for noting the webpage. I forgot to change the addy here @ conceptart.

Grooveholmes: yea, I drew the character too low on the page. o_O I'm going to draw the feet/sword on a seperate piece of paper and add 'em in after.

I guess I'm expecting a little too much from these forums. When I look @ a WIP thread, I comment on the first thing I see that might help(however good it is).

-I changed the angles of the feet around and added pieces of armor to protect his belly and back.
-workin' on the lightning.

looks pretty good,
i would suggest adding some more details and shading etc. On the whole very clean crisp lines reminds me of a cartoon character.

Also on the hair the colours lap over your lines looks abit tatty there.

What kind of details are you thinking of? Anything beyond what I've shown in the lineart ?

The pic above is just the blocked in colours. I'll clean up outside the lines as I go along.

It looks really cartoony because I'm in animation. :p I'm far from a painter, I'd actually more comfortable doing this in a cel-shading style but what the hell. I wanted to give painting a try.

The line/painted layers of my sword. I'm not sure how to give the sword more definition while staying away from solid black lines.

i was just thinking of general details like making the hair more detailed. Looking back at the sketches i think they are pretty good but the painting has taken away some of the smaller details, like the writing on the sword and the edges of his armour.

I'm hoping to put those details back into the picture in a more painterly fashion.

definitely like the pic. Very clean art and a great theme. (SOUL CALIBUR II ROCK!) I only think that you should change the pants from green to reddish or some other color. Or maybe just a lighter shade of green.

I darkened the pants and added some reddish blue lighting.

Does anyone know how to change the angle of a brush in PS7 ?

Gave it another hour and a half today.

in PS7, when you click on the brush tool, there is a little button to the far right of the brush toolbar. Click on this and this is the brush options menu. Click on the first tab above the first option box tab. The options are in that section.

keep it up btw.

thx so much. That was really bothering me.

And I'll definitely keep itup...I'm thinking I'll finish the legs and then go over the whole thing againto touch up lighting details, texture and what-not. I just need crits on that end to figure out what I should do..

Looking very good...you seem to be very responsive to the critiques you get, which is a great habit. I like the shadows on the arm and the highlights on the chestplate, let's see them come together a little bit more...definitely the lightning bolts should be treated more as a lightsource in the image reflecting off the armor, pants, etc.

Also, maybe take the pencil sketches out of the electricity now that you have it blocked in...it detracts from the effect

Nice progress

Turbosity: I've got a twin brother who used to draw but stopped (kind of a 'we are different people thing'). Anyway, he's always been a great sounding board for me.

_I erased the pencil,
_Finished painting the body, just the lightning left!

I'd like some opinions on the light sourcing job I did. I'm a little worried about the leg closest to the sword and the crotch armor.

Man, this is looking good. The only thing keeping me from getting into this image is the white background. For the time being at least put a gradient fill in to give it some sort of mood to help us old folks out :)

Gradients are officially banned ;-)

Why not take it further digitally?

Lineart look sweet

Its more now a matter of selecting a colorstyle :)

When i saw the first one, I definately thought heŽd be having kind of a lighter curved sword (some weird katana) held upwards. As I remember from samurai movies theres some stances kind of like that, exposing the belly so to fool the opponent to strike there.
Im kinda allergic to theese big japanese manga/anime swords :p

If U decide to go with the big-ass sword, I suggest making a triangle of feet and sword-point, so It seems its not in the air or maybe put it in an anvil "sword in the stone-style" :D
