Been really impressed with Kerkythea but have had some nasty problems with sketchup.

It doesn't export my textures very well - UV's all over the place. I'm honestly really dumb with 3d.

My problems would honestly be solved if I could just figure out how to get Kerkythea to render without textures... any help?

Pewp. I just changed all my materials to use a white diffuse texture. Pewp.

Been enjoying the renderer if anyone is curious. Has lots of great options and is pretty quick. Though I have had some problems with exporting textures and have dipped my hand way too far for comfort into 3d land...

Yeah dude, it also has some nice options for things like depth render (good for depth of field and fogging) as well as ambient occlusion mmmhmmm. Oh, mask render can be helpful for 2d land too.

What the hell is Kerkythea and how do I use it?

I'm attempting to learn 3-D to supplement my 2-D skills. I have SketchUp and I've been playing around with it.

I suppose I'll read up some but everything seems so vague on it.

First, read the Kerkythea manual that you can download on their site, then read tutorials and experiment - that's where you see the results. It may take few days, like in my case and I didn't know anything about 3D, except simple modelling in SketchUp.

If anyone is having troubles with sketchup, or most renderes associated with it, ask at this forum and you will usually get a very prompt answer :) http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/index.php

I've just been to the Kerkythea website and it looks pretty good. I've been looking for a renderer since I downloaded Sketchup (admittedly only a few days ago!) and, from what I've heard, this one should fit the bill.

There's a handy 'Getting Started' guide on the homepage and, having glanced through it briefly at work, it looks pretty comprehensive with a fairly shallow learning curve (I like shallow learning curves)! ;)

Anyway, once I have some models ready I plan to post them on the Sketchup forum.

Peace

Hah, I'm way late, but just wanted to ask if you still have any problems, IA? Being an architecture student, I've had my fair share (read: waaaay too much) of SU and I use Kerky to render. I'm no rendering expert, but I know the program's basics. I might be able to help you (or anyone!) if they need a kick-start :)

But like others have mentioned, the getting started manual is pretty solid and it got me through all the beginning problems. Also, checking out their forums was very helpful. And then of course there's just the usual method of trial and error :D 3D can be so frustrating...grr.

Oo thanks <3
I should probably read the manuals and all hehe. But I've not had any trouble lately. :) I'd love to see some work of yours, have you posted it anywhere?

You're welcome, I'd be happy to help :D I'm glad to hear that you've gotten this far without problems, though!

Ah, no, I haven't posted my uni work on CA. I'm always on my way to post some stuff at the architecture/design thread over at Fine Art & Studies section. When I remember, a few Kerky pictures will probably pop up :)
