I'm really getting used to an overhand grip when using charcoal.

But now I'm also using this grip when using graphite, even if I'm not shading....should I go back to an underhand grip?

I'm worried about the grip a bit, because you see most people use underhand and I'm really starting to use overhand for almost all art, I'm even using it for writing..lol.

Is there anyone else who is just using overhand grip for everything?

Also, I don't have a digital tablet yet and I don't think I can use an overhand grip on most tablets either so, hm..

Thanks.

You hold the media in the manner that gets you the best result.

I do try to get people to hold the pencil further from the tip than they are used to so they aren't too focused on what's trailing off the tip when they draw, but that's as far as I go.

In some ways, I think how you sharpen and prepare your pencil is more important.

Thank you. I was kinda scared because it's really not the norm at our school to hold it overhand.

I hold it pretty far from the tip, sometimes quite far if I'm doing contour to make a hard clean contour edge. I find it very hard to do this underhand.

I hope it works with a digital tablet too.
