what a beautiful margin of yours ;)

honestly, i dig your late work even more than the earlier things you posted here. the light in your stuff has a tangible quality to it, that's simply awesome.

it's not only like, there's a tower at this and that distance from me but you also paint the amount of AIR and LIGHT inbetween.

:chug: keep up the great work, mate.

Will you marry me?

I really like that idea of how you put together photos to make an environment to paint, makes me want to try that...I think I will. :D

Wow, really great work, especially because I've already been to that castle in Material 3. It's "Burg Eltz" and about one or two hours (by car) away from where I live. :D

That is so awesome, I had to invent a word to describe it.
The word is lusyimicisious.
I dont even know if that word can be pronounced.

Absolutely beautiful, just as good as Kinkaid's light paintings, his are more detailed though. I think I like yours more because it sends a feeling of great age and mystery.

looks good, though I hate to say this, but it looks to me like you have perspective conflictions. I saw it before I saw your method.

this could be just me, so I did a test. (hope you dont mind)...

http://www.jezelf.co.uk/images/tempstuff/composition_perspectives.jpg

and it carries over into your final image - the pillars on the left conflict with the moat part on the right. it kind looks odd. it could be ok thinking that there are different levels of water, as there does look like because the areas on the left looks half full and the stuff on the right looks full, but the wall on the right side of the path looks higher than than on the left side of the path too and it makes the composition feel unbalanced. (might be just that begining bit on the left side thats throwing me off)

if you put you hand over the pillars on the left, and imagine the water level the same either side of the pathway, it would be a better image for me. another reason for this is that there is a lot of weight on the middle>right side of the picture, from the castle onwards, where as the pillars feel lighter on the leftside and they are taking up a third of the image

another way you could balance it up is draw some larger, heavy mountians in the background on the left side of the image, so that the peaks are about the same level of the middle of the castle.

also on the left side you have depth problems - the castle looks further away than the back of the moat, plus with lighting like that there would be stonger shadows cast in that direction which would add weight and presence to the castle. work out the angle of the sun, and draw a line crossing the castle roof than when meets the ground will give an idea of your casted shadow

you also need ask yourself what you want the focal point to be- I get the impression that t is the castle - which is very nicely done BTW - so its a shame that the pillars on the left keep distracting my eye.

apologies for the lack of deplomacy (not to mention spelling and grammar!)- On the brighter side I think its great what you are doing with the photos - I reguarly get a lot of inspiration from photos such as these - they help a lot with the artist block thing - suddenly you can create the whole story to go with it! but its important not be a slave to them.

Ive also used 3d applications to help me out. build your buildings in them set up a camera and try a paintover - the composistion is yours to control a great learning tool if you find it hard to snap-shot a composistion in your mind. I thikn Craig Mullins has done this too. its no crime to do such stuff IMHO

anyway - Im sure Ive overstayed my welcome. I know its just a test - so best nip this fundimental stuff in the bud, then eh? :) keep it up, though! - I'll like to see more.

best wishes
jez.
