Dang,
Seeing as an artist of your calibur didn't get a scholarship either, it makes me feel really far behind. But, we have nowhere to go but up! Will you be attending TAD anyways?

Ahh I've been trying to upload a number of stuff and it keep timing out for me. Turns out my router fan is acting up and a quick WD40 spray onto the ball bearing solves the unstable internet.

Will reply to comments later since I'm pretty sleepy already. The baby sketches is part of my freelance job for a client (I did some DTP for them but will not upload the work here since this is not the right forum--)

Late replies--

@Giorge: Thanks bro! I realized I didn't practice at all from live model. D:
@AlexTooth: Will draw from memory next time! :)
@sourgasm: If you don't mind please sent me the photos of Leyendecker painting. Sorry for troubling you.
@LostFayth: Thanksies! :)
@JustinBeckett: Thanks!
@Turbosnail: Cool will take care on the proportions of the hands. I think I exaggerate some of the proportion subconsciously. :S
@Michaelsama: I don't think I'll be attending TAD this coming semester. If the opportunity arises, I'll sure join TAD. :)
@oren90: Thanks bro. :D The babies is a redesign (more like redraw) of my client previous baby mascot. They wanted something newer and fresh as they felt their previous baby design is old fashioned. Other than redrawing their baby, I help them with some DTP stuff which I work on it for the past 5 weeks or so.
@Cyprinus: Haha the Wacom contest was done really last minute. Heck I only know of it when I receive Wacom newsletter email and saw the deadline is in 48 hours time! D8 I didn't really like the creature design in the end but still it is a nice challenge for me (while working on my freelance work lol) :)

@Kvick: When I look back at my old work (early 2009 and way before that), my works tends to get messy and busy. :X

Trying to come out some building designs. Still need more practice on this area...

@miycko: Yeah I'm trying to focus more on cityscapes lately. It's a great subject matter to brush up on your perspective skills. :)
@Giorge: Duly noted! :)
@sourgasm: Heyyy you been whipping out lots of stuff. I've been working on a brand new portfolio (specifically tailored to various clients) in hope of getting a full time job over at Singapore.

Some stuff I've been working on. Will slowly post pics from the project I've been working for my new portfolio.

June 27th, 2010, 05:25 PM
nice and awasome update :), your backgrounds and futuristic scenes are magic, just one thing bug me and that's in third one, he looks stiff as hell his legs are really straight so is his spine his static like a puppet on hinges, the rendering is great but that pose really takes it down with the stiffness.
now that it's out of my systems, i love your futuristic buildings, they're well done :D

Oh wow, your environments are getting better post by post :)

Huey Yeng
June 28th, 2010, 02:41 PM
@AlexTooth: Yeah environments can be really tricky especially when it involves lots of perspective guide for cityscapes. :x

@oren90: Thanks for the crits! It's a sign I need to practice more anatomy-- XD

@Fumble: I recommend practicing perspective that deals with eye level. Often most environment have fairly standard eye level and this is what I'm practicing at the moment. 3 point perspective is still something of a nightmare for me haha. :)

@Cyprinus: Thanksies! Love your recent studies in your sketchbook. XD

wow your environments are really nice. i think if you spent as much effort into your charactrers as you did with the cities and this portrait (http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g116/picturebits/sketches_220-copy.jpg) i think they would improve greatly as right now they look stiff and generic. hope that wasnt too harsh, anyway keep up the good work :)

Your environment work is pure eye candy; Very dynamic compositions and some very brave color choices. As for critiques, I would say try to push the depth a bit more - try using lighter values and less contrast as the images moves toward the background to help give this illusion. Keep it up , very inspiring work you have so far!

Huey Yeng
July 7th, 2010, 12:51 PM

I can really see the Mullin's style in your work, but I suggest you stop everything and go back to anatomy. The mistakes are evident in all of your figures (they feel lifeless), and you should fix it before moving on. Lack of understanding of the figure is one of the major things keeping your pictures from being good. Your environments are getting better and better, keep it up!
