As if any 2 visions were the same.... :)
Short story:
I'm 23, and decided to start painting at the age of 23. Previous to 23 I had not so much as drawn more than a smiley face or doodled random things to kill time in highschool. The extent of my artistic ability was limited to geometric concept stuff for carpentry... and that extent wasn't very extended!
It started June, it is now January... I've made it a point to avoid the study of traditional techniques - I've learned through life that the best way is the way of the individual! Of course, this makes the task of starting from scratch that much more arduous... but for what else is life for :).
I've amazed myself thus far, but in doing the least bit of research I've been thorougly humbled, but not the least bit discouraged :). I look forward to providing a timeline of improvement... I really want this sketchbook to show my infinitely varied taste as it grows better conveyed... hopefully some of this forums finest will feel it in their heart to grace these pages with their 2 cents :)
Note the thing I find most truly enjoyable about painting is to give away my pieces! I don't have pics of some of my favs being as I gave them away before snapping a pic... and with that said, anything anyone sees on here they may be interested in, feel free to call dibs. I'm in the south burbs of chicago :). I seek no monetary gain (although I've sold one painting, and thats what gave me this realization) as I see money being the absolute most limiting factor of the artist's creativity... I'd rather shuffle things on shelves for 8 hours and come home to freely paint than feel bound to paint ANYTHING.
Hopefully this thread will be at least interesting... a fitting first post I hope :)
All below are acrylic or oil painted on MDF or Birch/oak plywood unless otherwise noted. I like bristle brushes, but don't have the funds to keep buying new ones, most of what you see is painted with very overused mashed up and distorted brushes.
Begin pics:
The most recent acrylic

Digital manipulation of the above that I absolute LOVE!!! One day I'd like to print it out and frame it :)

Only painting on a canvas board (painted over an old still life I had that my mom wanted to throw away way back when). This one is actually on the back of the board
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h54/spkrman/CopyofPicture009.jpg
And on the back/front (canvas part) of the above... the contrast to that state of being is, a dreamstate :)

Black Latex Paint (what I had a bucket of) on MDF - self portrait

My doodlepad, first venture into oil over a texturized acrylic base. When I get around to it it'll be my first venture into a glaze/wash

"Rubber"

"Pet shop Monkeybird"
He dreams one day of flying freely beyond his cage... too bad his view of the outside is so dim.... his view of the outside is greatly limited... but he has a dream and thats all that matters :)

"one night stand"

Gave this one to the cashier @ jimmy johns... hah the look on her face when I randomly whipped it out was priceless (lol @ you gutter thinkers...)!

One of my earliest works, one of my personal favs! She carries her baby as she runs away... a mask is falling off of her face also, which I don't think you can see in this pic. This one defines a very important time of my life... I surely miss her :)
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h54/spkrman/103_2964.jpg
Reading poetry in the park
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h54/spkrman/CopfCyofCopyofPicture043.jpg
Mardi Gras Menage A trois - my first stab at this sort of style and one of my very most favs :)
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h54/spkrman/103_2953.jpg
And to finish this introductory post... my fav of the trippy paintings I've done. I don't have pics of most of them as I made and gave them away a long time ago... but this one I think I'll keep forever :)
"I wish I had someone to pet me"
See the half of the monkeys face in the rear, hiding behind a "bush" peering at the dog (who has a giant grin!) as he's being petted by his owner, the monkey is drooling and wishing he had someone to pet him too!!! Also note the snake at the top right and the plethora of faces painted within faces within faces within a barn within an elephant... I just wish I could remember what was on my mind when I did this one lol... :)
This is a trippy one, there is so much randomness, I love to stare at it :)

Thanks for looking!! Any love/hate is very much appreciated!
