View Full Version : Why is it brighter when uploaded to net?

I'm not sure what this is, but when I finish a picture in Photoshop and upload it to the internet the image is brighter and less saturated than it originally was in Ps.

This didn't happen back when I was using Ps Elements 2 and a Dell computer. I'm now using CS3 and a Mac. Is there perhaps a setting I'm unaware of?

I thought it was just me, but I just tested an old pic I made in Elements from my dA gallery, pasted it into CS3, saved and replaced that same pic on dA with the new one, and it was definitely lighter!

What can I do to preserve the image color from Ps to internet?

Thanks!

investigate 'gamma settings' in general and for photoshop, and monitor calibrations. I'm not and never again will be a mac user so I can't just hand you the answer with a tidy bow, but from what you've described with your testing, I'm guessing the issue is in the color profile settings within PS, assuming you did all this investigation using only your current monitor. This is a very common issue that is most apparent when crossing over between Mac-world and PC-world. But even just within the PC world, the gamma variations are still there, but normally not exteme enough to be easily noticed.

Here is a site that goes in depth with setting up CS3 on a Mac:

BTW, even though default mac gamma is 1.8, there's no real reason not to use 2.2, and it will make your life much easier. I highly recommend the link Jay posted.
