Beautiful ! This gonna be an awesome show!
I love the background even more than the figures. No wait.. I love the figures more... Graah I love it all :P
Well done! ^^ And enjoy your show!

PS : Some of them are the models you paint in the panties postcards right? I think I recognize the first and the second.

Beautiful paintings. Those backgrounds are greatly incorporated and as sure, the are as good as the figure. That was an awesome choice on wearing the CA.org shirt for that one paint.

i get the feeling that the impression these works would have in a gallery space would be quite compelling and would be fascinating to see the dynamic of shape/movement/design interacting with the room. beautiful stuff...

Dave! Dude, these look amazing. I love the wide format of them and the directional flow each one has. I can't wait for the opening, stellar work, my friend. Thanks for posting!

Fantastic work, I wish I was going to be even remotely close to Philly but sadly I am not as I would love to see them. You have a great eye for composition. Really beautiful all of them, good luck with the show.

Hey, Dave. Love the first 3, excellent choice of colors and great technique. The only issue that troubles me - you are putting more detail into the background, than on the models, and somehow they look a bit unfinished. Especially the 4th and 5th, their faces look too sketchy to me. /but it could be just me/ Besides that, i love your stuff, mate, very inspiring! Thank you for sharing!

Wow, Dave! That is a hell of a series! Fantastic work. And what a great idea!
The one with the arrow in the back is a selfportrait, isn't it?

Nice man!

You did a really convincing job on the texture of the walls.
Did you use a sponge or palette knife or something?
The red wall with the face on it is amazing.

Really nice series, Dave. I particularly like the first. I think the implied movement from her using a phone which the others don't ( and wouldn't ) have is giving that figure an extra spark of life.

Be great to see the show. Shame there's an ocean in the way. Hope it goes well!

Interesting subject matter. I often sit and sketch people whilst I'm waiting for the train. :)

These have turned out really well - and the varied backgrounds are a nice touch, better than some plain brick wall anyway.

great idea to incorporate those stark, sharp and edgy graphics in the backgrounds, it really contrasts with the organic, softer edges of the figures. wish i could see em in person. thanks once again for inspiring us all buddy :)

The figures are good but I think they are really overshadowed by the detail and love you lavished on the backgrounds. The texture and detail there is astounding.

Dave great work! The First and third ones are golden. Beautiful and fun colors/shape in the first one, I love to look at it. I also love how you play off the profile faces in the third painting while she is dreaming of the moon, beautiful and poetic, may favorite. ;)
Wish I was there. Tell Tony and your parents I say Hi!
Cheers,
-Tiff

I keep looking at your paintings and wonder if they have some kind of personal story to them. They look like they do, so I was wondering what your ideas were with all the background symbolism. :)

Wow, awesome, love the compositions, I love the one with the BART map! They're all so stylish. These are going to be so great in 10 years when we can say "what the hell were these people wearing" :P I like the self-portrait you snuck in too. Nice coat :)

Wow, dave I really love the scenes, the backgrounds that they ascent make the painting so much more amazing, you blend a wall with a person, it looks like 2 separate lifes, beings, that being the walls and the persons, but at the same time they tend to become one, major props bro, I love everything. Illustration board ? Did you gesso the board ? How did that work out for ya.

Wow, huge thanks all around!

Clochette - thanks! Yeah, actually the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 8th have shown up in the postcards. Been loving what you've been posting lately as well, just wanted to say ;)
blue bed - thanks!
FreeLiner - thanks!
Maestro Andres - thanks, just a little inside wink, you know ;)
WODZGN - thanks!
Gerbil Fetus - thanks, I don't ordinarily get to work in horizontal formats with my illustrations so it was fun to give the figures some air
Interceptor - thanks!
NathanLong - thanks, they've been some fun compositional experiments for sure
Form - thanks, I'm looking forward to seeing them all hanging together. I hand them off and let the gallery figure out the presentation, and they always do a good job
Ericus - thanks man, hope to see you there!
MSGbear - thanks!
HunterKiller_ - thanks!
D@niel - thanks!
Borilius - thanks, it's a tightrope I know and sometimes I think I may have just been having too much fun with the walls
lewiston - thanks, yeah, that's me :bashful:
Oblio - thanks!
DSillustration - thanks dude! No sponges, but I did really have some fun with that palette knife. Also working some layers in and rough brushwork, mostly looking for some controlled chaos.
Matt Dixon - thanks, my favorite as well and the last one to be painted (isn't that always the way?)
Okmer - thanks!
Chermilla - thanks, painting the world that I want to see I guess :)
Josef K. - thanks!
cakeypigdog - thanks!
jaaaaaa - thanks!
stoph - thanks!
donalfall - thanks!
Jason Snair - thanks!
Chupacabra - thanks!
staaron - thanks!
Chuck,mate. - thanks!
Dizon - thanks! The texture comes from putting down a tone first, typically one that contrasts slightly with the intended color for the piece, then paintings rough on top and attacking it with a palette knife. After that, I go back in with the brush and correct or adjust where needed.
scott*altmann - thanks dude, hell yeah! We need to go drawing again!
Kiolia - thanks!
3alola - thanks!
LORD M - thanks!
Victor B - thanks!
Smarty - thanks, mine too :)
ColumbusSage - thanks!
Giacobino - thanks!
kev ferrara - thanks! They're about half found and half invented.
poise - thanks, we miss you out here too! I think like any other series, some are more personal while others are more just about the visual. I admit to being the sort who's reluctant to get too much into that with explanations though :P I will say though that I think the top piece and the self portrait are the most obvious, at least to me.
MoonVisionStudio - thanks!
nonie - ha, thanks! That's my Michael Jackson jacket ;)
sourgasm - thanks!
brokencow -thanks!
Anthriel - thanks!
JesArt - thanks! Yeah, Strathmore 500 series Velum finish, heavyweight. I put on three thin alternating coats of gesso to prepare my boards. Personally, I really like it. It's been my preferred surface for about 4-5 years now, no complaints ;)
entdroid - thanks Vic!

yo, these are are really awesome and especially the detail on the walls, like everyone said. By the way I not sure if you remember me, but we talked a couple times at the IMC workshop 08. you were working on an oil painting of this general character and this other painting of a western novel.

It's great to see your work again!
