REJECTED - NOT IN THE POLL
Reason: The creature lacks detail and definition and looks slightly unfinished. With a little more work it would have made it to poll.

Thats for me.

This kind of bird, we believe, is the evolution of the Parasaurolofhus, "the chamber dinosaur". He have "chambers" into his skull, with that he can do this sound, to call a female or to do a competicion with other male, the male who has more intensity in his "song" have the right to fecundate the female.

Concept: Bulbeous Atraxas

The Bulbeous Atraxas lives in the swamps and rainforests of the Jungle-world Tarina Prior. It inflates its sensitive airsacks attached to its lips and ears to make its typical screeching sounds in order to communicate with its own species, especially in the maiting season. The colourful sacks are a great attraction to the millions of flies living in the swamp due to the sweetness of the sweat covering them.

REJECTED - NOT IN THE POLL
Reason: Important parts of your creature design are not visible in your image. I had to read the description to figure out that it had no hind legs rather than that they were cut off by the plant that also obscures parts of his body.

Artist: Genus Resopus

Concept: Wild Cochonavant

These lone, two-legged omnivores' diets consist mainly of bugs that they find under rocks and small logs, small animals, and fruits from small brushes or that have fallen from trees. They are natural sprinters and can reach speeds of up to 90km/h. At these speeds it builds up great momentum thanks to it's weight and reduced friction (very long strides-less steps). Combining this with its strong legs, it can leap considerable distances. It's dextrous legs also make it an efficient all terrainer, which is especially useful in its tricky and dense surroundings. This makes catching prey or escaping predator very easy for the cochonavant. all of this naturally takes a lot of energy, so most of the time it moves at a snails pace, as it feeds on slow moving bugs and stationary fruits, conserving it's energy while relying mostly on it's camouflage for survival. its twin whip tails help balance the body during high speed turns. because it's head is so close to the ground, the cochonavant can't wade through even shallow water, nor can it swim. So, when facing this obstacle, it usually either finds an alternate route, or if the distance allows it, simply leaps across.

This beast has been seen very few times by the Norse explorers who have ventured into the Southern swampland. Strange creatures they have named the Myrrdrak or swamp dragon. Concept: Crybaby
Based on the sound clip, My creature is a big crybaby, a lizard with blown up cheeks with illuminated and very colorful streaks meant to attract prey. These are also air sacs that can be used to produce massive amounts of wind/sonic power, able to render their prey powerless. they don't have sharp claws and teeth and are not the most agile of creatures but their cries and jewel-like cheeks do lure unsuspecting hunters. I drew one baby being injured with the parent showing up.

Concept: Fensum Resheela translates to 'Wheezing Salamander'

The Aki Resheela is a native of the swamp-planet Jes-Unka in the Gantith galaxy. The planet was discovered in 2112. There was a society of tribal peoples found there.

The sac area on the throat of males tends to be larger than females' throat sac. It gets its' Earth name from the sound that it makes in mating season. Its' lungs are located in the throat sac and its' 'noses' are on the upper part of the back. It will absorb air through these breathing holes and fill up the lungs and then release a long call to locate a mate. If a female is near, she will reply with a higher pitched squeal, since her throat sac is smaller, which almost sounds pig-like.

The 'Wheezing Salamander' is also known as a 'Wheezer'. It is also a very quick and agile creature in and out of the water, despite its' weight. It can weigh up to 800 lbs. or around 360 kg.

Concept: tantuserbia Rana
This large amphibian produces loud mysterious sounds that can be heard from the swamps with the help of it's heavily build chest and air sacks.
It's used for attracting members of the opposite sex, as well as alluring smaller creatures to eat.

Visually, it also attracts smaller creatures with the thin "tentacles" attached on the shoulders with firefly looking lights towards the tip.
They are easy to detect, even when the swamps are densely packed with fog. It also fools smaller creatures by laying down into the water
while only keeping the "fireflies" above it. This makes the huge creature appear smaller then it really is.

Reason: I took it the flatness and vagueness of the creature are purposefully done as part of the design, but take care not to hide too much of the creatures texture and features next time. Concept: Nibuuru Bushland Stalker

The only hint at the origin of this predator is a myth told among the Nibuuru Nomads:

"Long time ago the daughter of a tribe chief had a serious wound infection from a dingo's bite on her hand. The chief ordered the tribal shaman to heal her. The shaman, doing the best he could, managed to heal her with his herbs and potions. But the infection had already done serious damage, so in order to heal her he had to amputate parts of her hand.

When the chiefsman heard about this, he raged because a crippled tribal daugther was not worth enough to be married anymore. He punished the shaman for not healing her in time by letting all of the shamans fingers being cut off and buried somewhere in the dusty bushland earth, so he could not find and perhaps heal them with his magic.

The shaman, full of anger due to this injustice and his crippling, spoke a silent curse.

The next full moon, from the buried fingers grew bony creatures crawling out of the earth. Ever since then, the Bushland Stalkers are following the Nibuuru Tribes to feed upon anybody leaving the camp at night alone."

This is how the mothers explain the unsettling screams in the dark outbacks to their children...

Concept: Kreen (Sound Creature)
The Kreen are ferocious creatures which produce a blood curdling howl the instant before attacking. Unfortunately, that usually means you are the one in the way and soon to be devoured. Not much is known about this species as they have proved far too dangerous for serious study but from what we do know, they are intelligent, very fast and extremely territorial! They are known to inhabit the marshlands and swamped forest regions of Thrakar Prime and since that planet is mostly forest and swamp, they can be found worldwide and are the top predator for the whole planet.

Reason: Parts of this creature are hard to read, mostly the top part. There's some random texture going on that messes with the overall tones of your image (checking this image in black&white mode might help).

Artist: T_Turrill

Concept: The Greater Cave Frigate
The largest herbivore of the swampy limestone cave regions of New Gondwanaland, the Greater Cave Frigate is named for its inflatable respiratory pouches. Dominant males are often seen sitting near cave entrances, using the resonance of the caverns to project their mating calls into the swamps during the fall rut, where females are foraging for winter proteins.

The rut is a visual spectacle: the skin of the face and penile tentacle becomes a vivid pink, while the air sacs become distended with use. Antlers rapidly unfurl and the signature "paddle-antlers" become visible. Males often stand on their tail stump to appear larger than their competitors. If two males of equal size cannot settle the display by sound alone, they will issue a battle call, and then engage in physical combat.

A successful male can attract up to a dozen females from the swamps with his calls, and on average, each females can oviviparously birth up to 75 pollywogs into the familial pools. She will stand watch until they enter their first calf stage in 2 weeks, but takes no part in rearing them.

Artist: sticmann

Concept: Ketchetik
As a very slow and somewhat distracted herbivorous waddler the Ketchetik tends to inhabit areas with few natural predators as rapid evasion is generally not in its repertoire for predator avoidance. Its first level of defence from any predator involves loud bellowing squeals accompanied by enthusiastic stamping in water pools, the combination of which echoing around the swamp paints quite an intimidating visual. Only the non-cowed, fool hardy predators proceed to seek out the Ketchetik, at which time the second level of defence is initiated upon discovery. In the moment of distraction that invariably occurs due to the immense cute-ness of the mild mannered creature (bringing up deeply repressed feelings of compassion in the ravenous predator) the Ketchetik utilising its quickest and stealthiest waddle melts away into the swampy mists. A note: Mating behaviour is very similar to that exhibited during first level general predator avoidance. Ketchetik inhabited swamps during mating season are very noisy places.

REJECTED - NOT IN THE POLL
Reason: Hard to read, the pose is unnatural and overall it looks flat. The texure is overpowering the rest of the image and hides the fact that the shading is rather flat. Note that I did not reject this for the humanoid-rule, although it's borderline.

Concept: BRILZARD

Humanoid shaped lizard, which mostly dwells in a deep forest or a dark swamp. Brilzard is a creature in between of bird specie and a lizard. It has a skin and scale, can live under water and swim fast by using a fan tail like lizard, But they have a beak and a hollow skeleton like a bird.

Brilzard have another name as a flying killer lizards because They can make a slimy glue from a fat of its prey making their thin "wing", using as a glide When they hunt.they will ambush enemy by hiding on a tree or under water and then, they will jump to catch it by using it's sharp claw crush into a weak point of victim's body and absolutely, they never miss.. Sometime when there is a good wind, they can fly over a 1-200 metres for hunting.

Concept: The Squeeler (Sound Creature)

Description: Deep in the ancient Cretaceous swamps and rain forests a pig-like creature survived amid the gigantic dinosaurs that ruled the earth. These creatures were omnivores, eating grubs, worms, grass, leaves, roots, fruit and flowers. They usually traveled in herds of a dozen or so, foraging for food constantly. Usually the most dominante male would stay with the herd as they ate, while two or three of juvenile males would separate from the herd yards away, creating a perimeter around the herd. Once a predator appeared, the male would squeel it's high pitched sound to warn the herd. The colorful quills on the male's back (females lack the quills) then stick up, also attracting the predator. The squeeler would then run as fast as it's legs can carry it away from the herd, luring the large carnivorous creature away. For those that lived the through the chase, they would return to the herd only after the predator had lost interest and left the vicinity. It has been theorized that just before the astroid that smashed into the Earth and killed the dinosaurs, hundreds of thousands of squeelers issued their warning minutes before impact. The sound left such a psychological impression on the surviving mammals that it was permantly tatooed onto their D.N.A. and after millions of years of evolution, mankind created the exact sound hundreds of squeelers made on that fatefull day, that of an air siren.

Concept: Antela
Antelas ( Asuina Gigas ) thrive in rainforests and swamps of the Zbalosh region on the planet Kalandrin. Their latin scientific name ( which means the giant "non-pig" ) comes from the resemblance between the squeal of a pig and the one of the Antela. Antelas stand 3 to 4 meters tall at the shoulder, and their gigantic feet can have a diameter of up to one meter! The crunching noise of branches under those massive beasts can be heard from afar, as well as the beast's low, rumbling growl. They feed primarily on leaves and decomposing vegetal, but they can also eat carrion and small creatures.

Concept: Phorus
The Phorus is quite possible the dumbest of GOD’s creations (although it comes by its low intelligence honestly whereas most people work damn hard for it.) The Phorus’s home is a small moon orbiting a Gas Giant which in turn Orbits a Brown Dwarf star. While not the most pleasant of Solar Systems (according to the latest issue of GALAXY under the Article “Shit-hole Solar Systems and best places to die an ignoble and unfortunate death) it is highly inhabited as the nearby Gas Giant provides a few “local” systems with the much sought after Sylabik gas-used in the manufacturing of the Galaxies most notorious and widely enjoyed pleasure drug. Sylabik, while most certainly pleasurable, most often causes it’s users to go temporarily insane and kill themselves in mostly disastrous ways taking a few of their fellows with them. (Now before you get ahead of yourself, don’t look to unkindly on these Syllies (as we call them and not entirely unkindly) as you yourselves have that whole Cigarette debacle to deal with.) However, while some users are content with taking themselves and some friends (or complete strangers) out of the gene pool with random explosive intent-some are entirely more creative. It is in this part our tale that the mostly blind and entirely stupid Phorus enters. Being that the only light in the system is provided by a brown dwarf, the light is provided as Infrared and so our unfortunate friend the Phorus see’s his surroundings as heat. Some more creative Syllies have recently taken up the unfortunate “sport” of mating with the Phorus. These Phor-Players, as we call them, de-clothe themselves and stand in poses they believe will entice the male Phorus. Being that the male Phorus sees in Infra-red the Phor-Players must shape themselves, as you would if you were trying to create shadow puppets on a wall, and try to appear to be female Phorus. The male of the species have no vocalization abilities and rely on the Females deep call to entice them into sexual encounters. This of course requires the naked and “shadow-puppeting” Syllies to howl out their love making intent. The encounter is quite horrendous and has in fact inspired what I believe your people would call a reality television show…quite popular as you can imagine. Scientists claim that after the Phorus realizes he’s been dupped he swiftly kills the offending Syllie and promptly eats him. This of course causes the Phorus to himself go mad and in turn kill himself in even more fantastic ways. Of course there are rumors that some of the more creative Phorus then decide to take up as many Syllies on their offer for intercourse as possible before dying of exhaustion.

Concept: Hoolooh

This six-legged behemoth carries its babies on its back in a specially-formed "dip" in the boney hump. The spines provide both defense and protection, keeping the babies in their nest and unwanted predators out. If one should fall, it will cry loudly, which alerts the parent to dip to its knees and allow its lost baby to scale the rough part of its back. However, it is dangerous for a hoolooh to kneel; the swampy, wet peat can be deceptively deep, and suck the heavy creature to its death. Thus, the babies generally remain within the nest for an entire year before attempting to leave. Its feet are broad pads that help cushion its stride and distribute its weight on the swamp's unsteady ground.

Part one

Wiggers: Probably the most original concept, but somehow I decided against it. It just seems more like a dream creature due to its crazy colours, patterns and form. I'm not saying being different is bad, but I just could not picture this one in regard of the soundbite. No crits regarding execution, apart of a kind of "boring" lighting. More drama baby.:)

ssickles: Nice and scary, but seems too small for the sound. A little more detail on the fur would have been nice.

GregTaylor: The head is a lot more detailed than the body, which kind of detracts a little. I like the beak and the colouring.

Aberrant85: Nice environment and kind of what I was thinking of the creatures habitat. Not to keen on the creatures simplicity and heigth. I love the branches' shadows.

Joey-b: Awsome and original design. I relly dig the mayan/aztec/inka feel of the facial features. Its interesting of see something resembling a mask as a face. The muscles on the hindleg look weird.

Espenboi: Probably the best environment of the creature and the lighting is very nice/moody. I just don't really like the slickness of the creature.

Wolfentir: I don't think this style is suited for this kind of challenge. Nice idea though.

dwinbotp: Nice little scene and it goes well with the sound. Top five for me.

Siiilon: I like the ratty design, but I don't think it goes well with the sound. Try adding a lot more different shades of colour next time, it will add mood and realism.

johannesblomgren: I like this one the best because 1) of the nice creature concept 2) the moody scene (esp. the dust, how did you do that?) and 3) because of the excellent job it does with depicting the sound.

Arthur-g: Second. Nice action going on and the colours are nice. Some strokes are just a little teeny bit too sloppy for me. But this one was really a close second. Creature design is ace.

BANCK: I like the colours and the depicted scene. Can't say a lot about the creature design. sry

Fabian Roth: Third. First of all Awsome colour chices, though you could have worked more on shadowes and lights I really like the palette you chose. The design is weird and interesting without being over the top. The creature could be placed better in its surrounding.

There's a couple of things like the mouth area and the baby's arm position that make me look twice,. but overall it's my fav. I also enjoy Arthur-gl's, but it was a bit too rough for me to vote for it.

Wolfentir, your creature stands out to me because its design is different than most of the others and the style is more traditional and lends the creature a neat, storybook feel.

I voted for aberrant85.
The creature concept might be simple but it has its charm. Colors and the background are great and the shadows of trees give the picture a really nice feel...

Voted for

Wiggers (the rendering!)
Dwinbotp (the scene your setting really raises this piece above most)
Johannesblomgren (my personal favourite, mainly beacause it has real character and a taste, instead of being a bland monster. So yeah my personal favorite, even though there were better rendered ones or better creature design)

props to you three!
