Hello there I'm Mischie, short for Mischievious, though I'm more silly than mischievous.

I'm not that organized when I sketch. I have 3 sketch books in my bag, I sketch on random scraps, odd surfaces, and digitally as well. So I will post my work from a little bit from everywhere.

Oh and below is a illustration of a homeless man that I photographed and the medium is water color on floor tile.

I'm hooked on the program Alchemy at the moment. So here is some of my alchemy scribbles.

I did some studies of my cousin's dog with my brush pen, as well as some random scribbles.

On the way back home I sketched some of the passengers around me. It's very difficult to find some one zoned out or not very fidgety on a crowded buss.

For the past few weeks I have done some flash exercises. This one was a test for peppering. The background and all the part of the puppet were painted in photoshop and then exported as a png to flash to animate. Yes a bit of arm flailing is a must.

I would love some suggestions, constructive criticism, or any type of feed back on these following pieces.

The First three the the hot air balloons, the birds, and the butterflies are comps for my classmate's vernissage. I got the butterfly comp approved to go forward with although the idea of the tree blossom transforming into butterflies was a bit to surreal for my professors (I played with the idea of these changing times and changing seasons). They want me to expand on the theme of metamorphous, and I'm a bit stumped at the moment.

hey, nice stuff!

I think with your colours you need to start thinking less about the local colour of an object (ie, its natural colour, in neutral light) and more about how different coloured lights and bounced lights would affect the object.

for example, in your butterfly/balloon sketches, there would be a warm light source (the sun) and then a cool lightsource hitting the shadow side of objects (the sky)

hope that helps, cheers.

I think more work on those Conan sketches would be a worthwhile project. A manga Conan would be pretty funny.

Some nice stuff, but try and make more substantial work and train your basic skills you need as an artist: the human body, light and shadows, colour. Studying will help you!

Cheers

Thanks archipelago, I normally keep in mind the direction of the light source in my work, thought the comps I did for the poster are just some quick work needed just to show composition of the poster. I just went a bit further and made some quick suggestions about rendering and color. I'm thinking about going further on my rejected ideas and finishing the illustrations when I have more free time, and I will then defiantly keep your suggestions in mind.

Armando, I intend to to do more caricature studies, though I have been staying away from drawing manga style art since my high school days. I find that there are way too many clichés in that style.

Thanks screamingelf.
I find it easier to draw people that are really zoned out. Try drawing people watching TV, playing video games , and some people on the buss and the train can be really zoned out at times; staring out the window or reading a book. Alchemy is a small open source program experimenting with sound waves effecting artwork. The character of line changes depending on the shape of the sound wave your computer's microphone picks up. It's used mostly to create abstract or preliminary sketches for inspiration. http://al.chemy.org/

Hi Janos, I sadly haven't had a figure drawing class these past few semesters though I'm currently enrolled in a night a once a week long pose drawing class along side of the day classes, and I intend to go to some more figure drawing classes/sessions. When I have the time I'll attend Dr. Sketchy Montreal again.
