View Full Version : Brisbane!
January 25th, 2009, 05:07 AM
We meet here at 10 am on a saturday and we stay till whenever.
If you cant find us look for the dude with the red mop of hair.(thats me)
Just incase my number is 0420926823
EDIT: we moved across the road to gloria jeans because it is quieter.
So same general place, but just at gloria jeans not starbucks.
For the last month or so a group of us have been trying to keep a sketch group going. Anyone who watches openanewworlds's sketch thread (http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=77931&page=33) would have heard about it. We tend to meet around 10, and draw for however long we feel like.
We would like some more people to come along, and join in.
January 30th, 2009, 06:35 AM
Hmm no bites... Guess it will be another quiet sketch group tomorrow.
February 2nd, 2009, 06:54 PM
I would be bummed that I missed this thread, but I was sick on the day that this was scheduled for.
Please count me in for interest in future meetups though!
February 3rd, 2009, 06:05 AM
awesome, yeah we hold it weekly :D, so it should be on this Saturday as well. I'm also dragging a few peeps along from work on sat so there should be more people than last sat.
A guy called security in the mall last sketch meet on Openanewworld for drawing him.... man he was an asshole.
Though the night after i did a bit of research into the law and people have no rights to their appearance whatsoever. You can take as many photos and drawings in public as you want, its what you do with them that's illegal.
February 6th, 2009, 06:22 AM
Just a post saying that this is on tomorrow at 10 am. Hope to see some new faces :)....
February 6th, 2009, 06:58 AM
I plan to be there. Look for the lost-looking fat woman with a sketchbook ;)
February 7th, 2009, 02:49 AM
Once again, it was super awesome to meet y'all today. Looking forward to doing it again next week (maybe in a more spacious environment? Lol!
There's Starbucks down on Elizabeth/Albert St with outside seating and shiteloads of people crossing that intersection from Borders to the Myer Center, etc. If the resident bikies don't have a problem with it, maybe we could try there? Though it could be an issue in wet weather. It at least has a bit more room anyway. Just suggesting.
February 7th, 2009, 08:35 AM
yeah it was cool to meet you too :).
I agree we need a bigger place as well. Ill talk to Herman about it.
the numbers of people who came just spiked, so we didn't really think about it :).
February 9th, 2009, 05:33 AM
Can't make it this weekend - gonna be up the coast for a few days. Let me know if you guys change venues though so I can be sure for the week after, lol.
February 13th, 2009, 03:43 AM
I'm going to try out a bigger cafe for tomorrow, which also happens to be single awareness day... or better known as valentines day for those of you with significant others :O.
Herman wont be there tomorrow so it will be me and a few work mates most likely.
Anyways the cafe i'm thinking of is called the spoon.
I'm updating the first post with the details to get there.
February 15th, 2009, 05:30 AM
Well it was just me and a mate yesterday, but we had fun.
I't seems that the spoon is a bit crowded at that time on a sat morning, so im going to go for a wander around the city looking for cafes this week.
Im up for suggestions from anyone :).
February 19th, 2009, 02:23 AM
It's almost that time again, did you find somewhere better than the Spoon?
There's still my suggestion of Starbucks on Albert/Elizabeth Sts. There's Aroma's on Elizabeth St (just up from the Wintergarden food court, near the Hilton). It's pretty noisy though with the traffic echoing off the walls. I don't know if it would be an ideal locale, but we could always try it and see.
February 19th, 2009, 04:14 AM
hmm, do you mean the Starbucks on the corner of the myer center? that could work.
I'm not really picky, so if you think one of those places are better post up the directions for it and we will hold it there.
February 19th, 2009, 04:43 AM
Yeah, that's the one I mean. We can just try it out, I guess.
Here's a map for you to update the first post with.
February 19th, 2009, 09:48 AM
ok sweet, ill pass on the info :).
February 21st, 2009, 09:01 PM
it seems that this other Starbucks is a good compromise. Only problem is its seating is halved when it rains.
But i see no reason to not keep it there.
February 21st, 2009, 10:55 PM
Agreed. Hats and suncream would be good for people to bring with them too, in case we can't get under the umbrellas again.
Perhaps a contingency plan for rainy days, such as in the Wintergarden or Myer Center food courts? Location is a bit iffy, since they're big places and seating is unpredictable. But mobile phones are helpful in that regard :3
February 22nd, 2009, 09:01 AM
Ya those are some good ideas.
February 25th, 2009, 11:42 AM
Whoa, I've been looking for a Brisbane sketch group! When's the next one? Awesome.
February 25th, 2009, 05:15 PM
Next saturday :).
10 am at the myercenter starbucks.
I was hoping for more forum peeps :D!
February 26th, 2009, 12:09 AM
Sweet muzzoid, I'll be there. Should I look out for a bunch of people with coffees and sketchpads? ;)
That's Sat the 28th...?
February 27th, 2009, 07:08 AM
Sorry i didnt respond yesterday, yeah tomorrow.
Ill hopefully see you then. We will prob eb sitting at the tables outside.
March 6th, 2009, 05:20 AM
Hey guys, looks like the cold I have is not letting up. If I'm not there tomorrow, it's because the bastard's got the better of me.
Providing I'm not sick, shot dead or something horrible, I'll be round the following Sat!
March 6th, 2009, 11:32 AM
ok fair enough dude.
Ill be there regardless :).
Im a little drunk right now so i might rock up a little late unintentionally. But ill try to be there on time :).
March 7th, 2009, 02:07 AM
2 people sick and one too busy, so i was the only one there today :(...
Would you guys rather we make this a drink and draw group in the nights instead of a cafe sketchgroup in the morning? Though that would end up being more expensive for all of us...
March 8th, 2009, 06:21 AM
Honestly, I personally prefer the Saturday morning shindigs that have been happening. Not only does it get me out and about and enjoying the day, it's affordable for me, unlike drink and draw nights (which can easily be overdone and then become drink and scrawl nights). But if the consensus overrules, I will acquiesce.
Sorry you were all by yourself Murray :\
Hopefully won't happen again.
March 12th, 2009, 08:48 AM
Ok sketch group it stays.
Whos coming this sat?
March 12th, 2009, 10:39 AM
Me is comin' ;) Feeling quite sketch-ready.
March 12th, 2009, 06:30 PM
I'll be there :3
March 13th, 2009, 06:35 PM
Cool guys. Cya this mornin.
March 13th, 2009, 06:43 PM
Aww, I wanna be there.. maybe I can come to Brisbane sometime and meet you guys! :)
March 14th, 2009, 01:53 AM
You'll be welcome if and when you do Max. It's small, but enjoyable.
Murray, dude! You stole my freakn' eraser!! D:<
March 14th, 2009, 02:04 AM
aw fook D:
I did too!!!
Sorry, ill buy you 5 more if you want next saturday.... :P
March 19th, 2009, 07:03 AM
Tis on again saturday.
I might try and find some brissy artists to send notes to tomorrow morning.
March 20th, 2009, 06:58 AM
Tis on again indeed, and I shall once again be there. But not next week though - Imma goin' on a road trip for the weekend!! :D :D :D
March 20th, 2009, 07:36 AM
Hey ninjas, I've got a pretty full weekend on as well as voting in a really boring election (like you too, unless you're illegally living here). Not looking like I can come. Next week though ;)
March 20th, 2009, 09:13 AM
I forgot to enrol... though apparently if you moved in the last month you cannot enrol to vote or something... I dont know i might get fined... we will see.
Cya tomorrow bleu
March 25th, 2009, 09:14 PM
Again sketch group is on saturday.
All are invited.
March 27th, 2009, 02:33 AM
Hey guys, I'm going to have to bail... again. I've got a zombie costume and an acrylic piece to finish off, among non-arty uni readings. Sorry! Next week looks clear however...
March 27th, 2009, 05:42 AM
I guess ill call it off this weekend as so many people will be missing. :) thanks for the heads up.
March 31st, 2009, 09:35 AM
Hey guys this weekend supernova is on, ill probably be heading there on the saturday... Id imagine you guys will be there as well?
March 31st, 2009, 10:16 PM
Uhmm... probably not for me. Never really been a nerd convention dude.
However, do enjoy... ;)
March 31st, 2009, 11:55 PM
Nope, can't afford it.
Will probably just head along to Starbucks for a few hours by myself.
April 1st, 2009, 07:27 AM
Ah fair enough guys.
Well nothing stopping you from going to sketch group without me.
April 4th, 2009, 07:51 AM
I wanna come, but i doubt my parents will let me and i live in the Gold Coast :(
April 4th, 2009, 11:32 AM
Sketching without Mavi? (You better still have that memento cup) ;)
April 4th, 2009, 10:49 PM
Hey, I'm interesting in sketching as well. I was in a CA sketch group for a year in Vancouver, Canada, but I moved to Brisbane now. Where do you guys meet, exactly? I read something about changing cafes.
April 4th, 2009, 10:58 PM
Sorry about the confusing first post, ill edit today and make it easier to understand.
Currently we are meeting at the Starbucks at the Myer center at 10 am Saturdays, its not really the best place, but all the really nice places in brisbane are difficult to get to via public transport.
Id love to see some new faces come along :).
April 5th, 2009, 08:22 AM
Yeah, I don't have a car yet, so Myer Centre works for me. That one down in Queen St?
I've been desperate looking for a sketch group. The last time I checked on CA, there was one years ago in Brisbane, but that's it. None of my local places have one either, nor does my uni campus. =p. I really thank you for the effort, mate.
This weekend is the Easter weekend. Still on? If so, I'll see you there!
April 6th, 2009, 09:24 AM
its ont he corner of elizabeth and albert st, so yeah next to the queen st mall.
Well im going, dunno about anyone else, but they should post in here if they are.
Ill let you know before hand if not enough people are coming.
Could you pm me your number just incase.
Mine is 04 209 268 23
April 6th, 2009, 10:00 AM
Might be taking off early, but I plan to be there.
April 7th, 2009, 10:53 AM
0433 335 4748 is my number. I don't suppose people will spam me here... ;p
April 8th, 2009, 09:39 PM
I'll be in Brisbane this weekend so I'm interested in attending on Saturday (if you guys are holding it). Herman has my mobile number I think....
April 9th, 2009, 01:18 PM
See you chapz there!
April 9th, 2009, 07:59 PM
Wow seems like we will have a very busy sketchgroup this weekend. So yeah feel free to come along rayk.
Im not sure if herman is back in australia yet?
last i heard is that he is freelancing in china.
EDit: yeah he is back and he is tagging along.
April 10th, 2009, 06:17 PM
Arg. Wireless died so I have to resort to wired connections.. trying to fix it at the moment.
But I'll be there at 10, in either case! See you there.
April 11th, 2009, 03:11 AM
That was fun today, guys. I'll look forward to next week's sketch group!
I eventually got a USB wireless adapter and I have 'net now. =]. Yay.
April 15th, 2009, 03:52 AM
hi. uhh, im new! this was the only brisbane sketch group i could find online. I usually work every saturday but if things go to plan I should have this sat off, free to sketch my heart out. I'm a little rusty, but keen to meet people.
April 15th, 2009, 06:04 AM
Ill meet you on saturday then :).
April 15th, 2009, 07:27 AM
Hey chapz, Herman mentioned a life drawing group that meets at QCA every Monday night. I managed to find the website for it >> http://www.gas.org.au/index.php?id=12
$7 smackers for non-members, Room 6.20, 6-8pm. I'm seriously looking to attend as I currently inhabit a life drawing vacuum. Would be great to see some of you dudez there too.
See you dudez on Sat ;)
April 16th, 2009, 05:37 AM
I'm usually at the GAS sessions Phil. Depends on assignments and how organized I am or how long a day it's been tho. Ha. Just a warning though, you might want to get there on time, if not earlier, because it seems to get pretty crowded these days and makes it hard to get a decen spot.
I've also asked Mari if we can slip in a costumed model every now and then and she reckons she's going to try doing it once a month for an hour long pose. So yay!
Hope to be at the meetup on Saturday too, I forsee no particular obstacles that should stop me from going this time round... hopefully.
April 16th, 2009, 08:55 AM
Ah sweet. I will get there early. I've got a Heraclitus assignment bearing down on me but I want to be there. Where about's is room 6.20? I should probably download a campus map or something...
April 17th, 2009, 07:54 AM
Did I say "no obstacles"? Spoke too soon. Ha!
I have done a silly thing and left my purse in my friend's bag today... she lives all the way down the GC and has my student card and all $$$ for coffee/lunch/transport :\
However, I will still try to make it in... just warning early in case I don't turn up.
Oh, and Phil, 6.20 is the very end room in the Grey Street building. If you come up Grey St from the train or bus, hook a left past student admin, and a right before the library. From there you'll see a big lift which takes you up to the 6th floor. Take a left out of the lift, then hook a right down the balcony, you'll find it I'm sure.
It might have been easier to draw a map but.... *shrug*
April 17th, 2009, 08:31 AM
lols..... good one D:. If you need i can lend you money for coffee and shizz....
cya guys tomorrow :).
Xavier gave me a call and said he cant make it though :/. (spaxe)
Thanks for the info about that sketch group! but i dont think i will go on mon, unless i want to do life drawing 2 nights in a row... haha.
at college we have an open life drawing session every fortnight, you guys are free to come along if you want, but it is a bit more expensive $15 for non students.... But thats because its nice and quiet..
April 22nd, 2009, 02:29 AM
Hey dudez, sorry I didn't turn up, but a pressing matter, err, pressed itself, and I had to attend to it. I should be there this Sat.
Muzz, where is your college? I didn't go to the GAS one on Monday and it does sound rather loaded.
April 22nd, 2009, 06:29 PM
its about 50 meters from where we sit at sketch group ;).
its just down albert street the building just past timezone. Life drawing is held at 5:30 on lvl 9. Ill send you the email about it. But it wont be on next week as its only a fortnightly thing. unlike gas.
April 23rd, 2009, 12:22 AM
Haha, thanks for finding that. GAS once tried to branch out to Griffith Nathan, but the number of interested people was not enough and it had to be cancelled... bleh. But would be great to do some life drawing.
I'm going this saturday to Queen St. mall, btw. :) So, see you there.
April 23rd, 2009, 10:12 AM
Hey dudez, I've come up with an idea for the sketchgroup... a random sketch generator (yay). I will unveil it on Sat. It will combat those "what the hell should I draw?" moments when you're sitting down with your sketchbook. Plus it reminds me of playing Warhammer in my teens (for some reason). It could work... but I dunno. See how it goes.
April 24th, 2009, 09:32 AM
Cya tomorrow dudez.
April 25th, 2009, 01:09 AM
Damn, I wish you had of been doing this kind of get-together 5 years ago when I was still living in Brisbane. :(
Maybe next time I come back for a visit I can hook up with you guys. :D
April 25th, 2009, 02:36 AM
Hey dudez, Sorry I was a no-show today. Even though I've said I was able to make it these past couple of weeks, I pretty much have been logged with non-art uni assignments that need to be done. Next week I will literally have no assignments due in the immediate future... THEN I should be free to come. I hope the ANZAC Day stuff didn't weird the meet up too much ;)
Anyway, I think I owe you my character generator... Feedback appreciated if you actually try it out, haha. Could be fun...

ha seems like fun.
I guess we will test drive it next sat.
Neech monkey if you ever are in brissy feel free to tag along :).
April 25th, 2009, 11:12 PM
Okay, I test drove the character generator and have thus far come up with this. I got =
- 1940's WW2 Pilot
- Three boobs!
And if you look, all the aspects are there! The WW2 Pilot is incorporated via her Bomber Jacket, and the snake is from the jungle... ;) A bit of a challenge but it was pretty fun actually.
April 27th, 2009, 04:50 AM
Cant wait to try it out :). Some of the coices seem a bit limited but there is nothing stopping us changing it sometimes.
April 27th, 2009, 06:08 AM
After that first go, I didn't find it limiting, but I did find it hard. Finding out ways to fit everything in is difficult, and looking back at the first go, I could have (more crazily) infused the various elements together (ie, for the WW2 Pilots parts, incorporated something from the design of a Spitfire, for eg, rather than just slap a bomber jacket on her). I'm open of course to evolving the FCG so long as it stays challenging and generally keeewwl :P
April 29th, 2009, 01:21 AM
I've posted up a list of life drawing groups around Bris on my blog (including the Saturday morning shindig that's going). In case the GAS or Qantm ones don't suit you, I'll post them here too:
Griffith Animation Society Life Drawing
6pm - 8pm
Room 6.20 Grey St Studios
226 Grey Street
South Bank (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=226+Grey+St,+South+Bank+QLD+4101,+Australia&sll=-27.480786,153.011194&sspn=0.008443,0.013239&ie=UTF8&ll=-27.481767,153.023919&spn=0.008224,0.013239&z=17&iwloc=A)
$5 for GAS members
$10 for non members
For people who've never been, as you walk in the entrance to the university, take a left towards the library, then a right past the gate (not down the stairs). Take the lift up to the sixth floor and follow the balcony towards the South Brisbane end of the building. It should be the last room (has "life drawing studio" on the door somewhere).
Campus map PDF (http://www.griffith.edu.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0016/111517/09map-gen-sbc.pdf).
Qantm College Life Drawing

If you're a public transport person like myself, you can either walk down Vulture St or catch the 199 outbound to West End.
6:30pm - 9:30pm
Located down at "The Sculptors Shed" in the grounds of and behind the Old Museum Building near the RNA showgrounds. Click for street map (http://www.sculptorsqld.org.au/images/stories/Artwork/sculptors%20map%20sml.jpg).
$15 non members
I actually thought this one had been cancelled, but it seems to have started up again. It's about a 10 to 15 minute walk from Brunswick St train station. Not sure about buses, they're not very convenient out that way for me.
ConceptArt.org sketch group
10am to whenever (we usually break for lunch around 12pm and maybe draw a bit more afterwards).
@ the tables outside of the Myer Center Starbucks
Corner of Albert and Elizabeth Streets, Brisbane
No charge, just bring $$$ for coffee and/or lunch if you want it.
Haven't been to this, but it sounds like an offshoot inspired by Dr. Sketchy's with costumed models.
183 George St
I'm not yet sure of the details for this event, but will update later maybe. Or you can check for updates on graceartevents.com (http://graceartevents.com).
Hope to be at sketchgroup this Saturday for at least a little while. See y'all there.
April 30th, 2009, 02:52 PM
Wow, that's really informative. Thanks!
April 30th, 2009, 03:02 PM
Hey guys, I'm gonna be moving out to Brisbane on June 20th!
I'd love to meet some more CAers and get together for some drawing or drinks or something :D If you guys want, maybe PM me your MSN or e-mail or something, and we can chat a bit beforehand.
May 1st, 2009, 12:43 AM
thanks for that bleu :D!
Inteceptor, thats pretty awesome. Really nice work in your sb btw :). Ill look forward to meeting you.
Whats the reasoning for the move?
May 1st, 2009, 05:02 AM
My girlfriend moved there for medschool. I'm lonely, lol.
May 1st, 2009, 07:24 AM
lols... as good a reason as any to move to the other side of the world i guess :D.
May 1st, 2009, 11:17 AM
See you guys... today! Yeah, I'm actually going to be there this time ;)
May 1st, 2009, 07:14 PM
I have a wedding to attend this arvo, was going to try and make it to sketchgroup for a couple of hours beforehand but can't now. Boooooo!!!
May 1st, 2009, 11:48 PM
it was just me and phix there today :(.
May 2nd, 2009, 08:20 AM
I'll be there next week. :P
May 2nd, 2009, 01:39 PM
At least we got to try out the character generator! A new rule has to be added however: Sexless Bipeds cannot have 3 boobs > re-roll...
May 4th, 2009, 04:08 PM
lolz. =]. That's hilarious!
I did a painting the past week, though, so I'm not slacking after all!
There are minor things I want to fix (the blur, especially) but it's mostly done. Feedbacks would be nice, and I'm still looking forward to next Saturday!
May 4th, 2009, 07:52 PM
pretty cool, but stay away from the horrors of pillow shading.. Why are you posting this here anyways?
May 5th, 2009, 04:02 AM
Pillow shading, as in flash-light-like effects? I'll keep that in mind, although I do admit it's cheesy in this one.
And, hmm, why did I post here. I don't know. Thought to share? :]
May 5th, 2009, 04:12 AM
if you wanna share update your bloody sketchbook haha.
Pillow shading is a term i got from a little pixel art tutorial...
But in short i mean shading like a gradient coming from one edge. You do sometimes find it in life but it only looks correct in the right circumstances.
May 5th, 2009, 06:02 AM
Spaxe has a sketchbook??? Where?
Speaking of... I should update mine... at some point :\
Also gais, you might be interested in the Vaudeville Art session on next Tuesday night!
May 5th, 2009, 06:06 AM
lol your right he doesnt have one... go make one now boy!
aand im on hols next week so i am so there !
May 5th, 2009, 09:52 AM
Hey Xavier, a nice start there with your trooper dude. Muzz has already said some good things but I'll say some bitz too:
- Solid looking character
- Instantly perceivable atmosphere
- Well placed lighting arrangement
Not so good bitz
- Ambiguous pose (eg, always have your characters doing something... even just thinking about something)
- fuzzy digital-arty-ness (always use hard edged, interesting oblong brushes!)
- Uniform character texture (eg, chop up your textures and paste them in unpredictable directions)
- Singular light source (have at least two in any pic, one strong and one weak, just to mix it up)
Now start a sketchbook! :D
May 5th, 2009, 05:43 PM
Ahaha, thanks, all of you. I'll really have to hold it up if I really want a sketch book.. we'll see.
May 5th, 2009, 10:15 PM

May 15th, 2009, 08:09 AM
Hmm, to go to sketchgroup this week or not to go to sketchgroup this week...? That is the question... I think I might pike chapz, the week's been a real rapist. Kudos to Muzz for turning up every week though. That's vigilance!
May 15th, 2009, 08:53 AM
Turns out I'm not actually doing sound design stuff with my group tomorrow afternoon, thus can shift homework to then and turn up to sketchgroup, yayyyy!! But ppl won't be there?? Well, I'll hang for a little bit and take off early maybe if no one else will.
May 15th, 2009, 10:32 AM

May 24th, 2009, 06:07 AM
Just a heads up for those interested, there's another Vaudeville Art drawing session on at Little JUMBO in the city this Tuesday eve. The model is a bellydancer, sword dancer and snake dancer... Liz says she is hopefully bringing said snake along, but is not sure... I freaking hope so!!!!! :D:D:D
7:00pm - 9:00pm ish
Hope to see you there :)
May 25th, 2009, 04:57 AM
Argh, these exciting art events are always on when I work or have lectures (Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays). Damn. Well, have fun... :(
May 29th, 2009, 01:53 AM
Once again, due to assessment I will not be making it to sketchgroup tomorrow. Lots of 3D animating to do this weekend!
May 29th, 2009, 02:48 AM
I'll be there tomorrow :D It's been a while since I had some good Japanese grub...
May 29th, 2009, 05:38 AM
lols.... yeah that japanese place is made of win.
And c'mon bleu, you can come out for just 2 hours at least cant you? D:.
June 9th, 2009, 01:20 AM
Hey dudez, I have found that I am in need of selling some art books of mine, due to me moving house soon. Let me know if you or a chum would be interested in these. All are in virtually new condition (I am a fastidious book carer!)
- 50 Robots to Draw and Paint, Keith Thompson = $10
- 50 Fantasy Vehicles to Draw and Paint, Keith Thompson = $10
- Mechanika, Doug Chiang = $20
The rest of my art books I am keeping! I do have some ImagineFX issues up for grabs too, also in great condition: 21, 22, 26, 27, 31, 33, 34, 37. All with the respective DVDs too. $7.50 each, two for $10, or the whole bloody lot for $30 :)
I should be at the next sketchgroup so let me know if you're after something and I'll bring it along. I hope this post is "legal"...
June 9th, 2009, 01:21 AM
...Damn, double post.
June 9th, 2009, 04:20 AM
Hey Phix, I'll take Mechanika, Doug Chiang. See you on Saturday.
June 9th, 2009, 04:51 AM
hmm those 8 mags for 30 is really tempting.... ill see if i have the money spare. I have some bills to pay so ill tell you here if i can before sat.
and lols, i knew leonard would take that mechanika.
June 12th, 2009, 08:04 AM
Hey chumz, I'll bring everything along tomorrow. That way I can tempt ye to buy more! :P
June 13th, 2009, 04:25 AM
Hey guys, nice session today! I had a good exam afterwards (at least I knew each question and what I needed to do to solve them) so all is good. See you next week!
June 13th, 2009, 06:16 AM
I produced some royal poo today, but such is life. Next week we'll be minus The Muz, so that means I get his seat (cushion goodness), okay? :P If anyone wants the remaining two books I have up for grabs, just let me know. Today we also promised each other various links to things... personally I didn't, but don't forget about it if you did! In other news, check this out for a laugh >> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vofXcC0rj4&feature=channel See you next week :pirate:
June 13th, 2009, 08:11 AM
I promised links?
Lols refresh my memory if i did haha.
June 14th, 2009, 02:07 AM
Hey Guys, got my name changed, (thanks for the lead Muz!).
Phil, here's that link; http://www.kekaiart.com/
June 14th, 2009, 05:19 AM
Ah noice. I knew there were links to be shared! As for Muz's one, it was the name changing one, which it seems like three of us now have made use of. I think we're right now though ;)
June 17th, 2009, 05:19 AM
I finished uni!! Sketchgroup's still on these days rite? It's been a while but I'm anxious to get out and about again :D
June 17th, 2009, 07:07 AM
WOOOT! congrats bleu. Now the real job hunt begins!
Yeah sketchgroup is still going, though next sat i wont be there :P. (first time in like ever... ) My bro has his 21st on then.
June 17th, 2009, 11:20 PM
Which means Muz will be getting boozed at 10am!
June 18th, 2009, 06:10 AM
Hellz yeah. nothing like getting plastered early in the morning.
(actually it wont be that big of a booze up as the whole family imcluding the grandparents are going to be there.)
June 19th, 2009, 08:51 AM
Hey dudez, I'm going to have to press the ejection seat button for tomorrow; some things have popped up and I am needed elsewhere. Should be there next Sat though.
June 20th, 2009, 08:01 AM
No worries Phil, Leonard and I left early today. Hopefully no one else showed up and missed us - we started at 8 and left around 10:30, and hanged out at my place instead ;p.
See you guys next saturday. My flight back to Taiwan is on the 30th in the morning. I will be back around 20 July.
June 20th, 2009, 08:43 AM
Where abouts in briz do you guys draw, I live in West End and would be interested to come along if there room for another:)
June 20th, 2009, 09:53 PM
Hey Dregan, would be nice to have another person coming!
We draw at the Starbucks in the Queen St. Mall.
We usually start at around 10am, and it goes to whenever you want to. Generally people stay after lunch a bit to draw some more.
I won't be able to make the next 4-5 weeks after the next one though, so if you wanna come you better come this Saturday!
June 21st, 2009, 03:55 AM
hey dregan! Yeah the info is exactly as sspaxe says. I hope to see you there some time.
Man i was so wasted last night and im still feeling it.... a bit because of the alcohol and a bit because of the bonet surfing.
June 21st, 2009, 04:58 AM
They ran you into a tree?
June 21st, 2009, 06:16 AM
Lols nah, it was on the beach at high tide. Dem waves be rough jumping them while sitting on a bonet.
June 21st, 2009, 06:46 AM
Dude, you are EXTREME.
June 24th, 2009, 01:42 AM
hey guys i think im gonna try and make one of these either this weekend or next depending on my schedule. so i guess the details are still 10am sat morning at the starbucks on albert and elizabeth? if so ill see ya there, ill wear a cheezy clonewars hat so you can spot me haha (wish i was kidding but im not) :P
June 24th, 2009, 03:13 AM
That's great Adam! Yeah, details are correct. There's a couple of us who are there come rain or shine and you can't miss us. If you get stuck(?) here's my no. 0448 782 091, (Leonard).
June 24th, 2009, 04:21 AM
You know what i look like, so i dont think you really need the clone trooper hat haha. Unless you are just looking for an excuse to wear it.
Hope to see you there then :D. Also here is my number just incase as well. 0420926823
June 24th, 2009, 07:42 AM
I'm going to be there early (not 8am, so Leonard you don't have to come early with me :P), you will see me drawing likely with markers. Usually we're the only ones drawing there.
June 24th, 2009, 07:45 AM
Cool, a senior concept ninja. And here's my number too: 1800-SEX-GOD
June 24th, 2009, 05:03 PM
Hey Phiq, what's your real number, (I don't think anyone has it). Or we could just get it off you this Saturday? (I tried the number you put up and I got someone in India. Don't tell me you've taken your business offshore, just to turn over a bigger profit? Ha ha ha.... ah fuck it...)
Edit: Xavier, what time you thinking of getting there?
June 25th, 2009, 12:20 AM
Yes, I am currently operating out of Mumbai. ;)
I'll dispense my mob. number around this Saturday, no problem.
June 25th, 2009, 02:21 AM
cheers guys, ill give you a buzz this weekend if i can make it or youll just meet some strange guy with the same name as me... hopefully the weather wont be too bad either
June 25th, 2009, 05:14 AM
I honestly don't know what time I'll be there. It could be 6. could be 7, 8, or 9.
This is mainly because I have to get up tomorrow (friday) at 4am, and that will screw up my sleep. So just come and draw - you'll see me by 10 for sure.
June 28th, 2009, 07:52 AM
So who wants to be in a Support Sketch Group? All you need is a sketchbook thread, and link them here! I'll put you in my signature.
Also, we need a name for our SSG. :P
June 28th, 2009, 05:08 PM
Hey Xavier, is this what you guys had in mind? I've just added the links to sketchbooks of those who regularly attend Saturday mornings, (for now).
June 28th, 2009, 08:18 PM
Yeah, it is what we were talking about. But that means you need to start a sketch thread! =3
June 29th, 2009, 12:28 AM
Muz has already got one... so you might have to check to see if he wants to be in two or something. We also need to figure out a name. I have conceived the following: Crystal Bats, Mutant Potatoes, Sub-machine Chums, Rifle Tower, Spaghetti Ninjas and Angel Gas. Choose...
June 29th, 2009, 05:13 PM
I like 'Rifle Tower', (count that as my vote).
Just remembered I was telling you guys about an artist who was good with custom brushes. Well here's his wesite: DjahalLand (http://www.djahalland.com/en/accueil/). He's got his brush sets up for download too, so generous. If I'm not mistaken I think he's posted at ConceptArt.org. Anyway, hope you likey.
June 29th, 2009, 10:44 PM
I'm cool with Rifle Tower. SpaXe...?
July 1st, 2009, 01:54 AM
Rifle Tower it is. I like the play on words. ;)
July 1st, 2009, 03:21 AM
It is done... The Rifle Tower SSG Now plug in the appropriate html code into your signatures!
And Leonard, start a sketchbook now... do it...
July 1st, 2009, 06:23 AM
I think i just worked out why adam didnt turn up to our sk group, seems that alot of the krome artists and others all had a pro meetup at another cafe, at the same time.... Dunno what was going on with that.
July 2nd, 2009, 11:04 AM
Maybe he can come another week? Or we could join with theirs. :P
I'm really exhausted tonight. I'll add the Rifle Tower SSG sig soon. ;)
July 3rd, 2009, 11:27 AM
Murry, are you interested in having another SSG? ;)
July 3rd, 2009, 05:36 PM
blah... (post was too short.)
July 4th, 2009, 01:46 AM
Great to meet everyone these past 2 weeks! loving Brisbane
July 4th, 2009, 02:18 AM
Would you be referring to Brisbane, CA... USA?
July 4th, 2009, 02:51 AM
phiq, where were you young man?
Inteceptor went to a different sketchgroup (full of awesome sauce) the week before and you werent there today.
Inteceptor, glad to hear you enjoyed it :).
July 4th, 2009, 10:35 AM
Oh, right, haha. As for me, I spent most of the day trying to figure out an excuse instead of simply saying, "I accidentally slept in til 12". Sorry dudez.
July 4th, 2009, 11:46 AM
Yeah we missed one that had bumskee, a bunch of krome guys and others :(.
July 5th, 2009, 03:18 AM
Ok guys, I've now got a sketchbook so check it out.
Cheers Muz for pointing out PuppetShop on Sat. All I got to do now is learn how to rig!
July 5th, 2009, 05:33 AM
To everyone here, Muz is clearly only part of his original SSG... *hint*
July 7th, 2009, 05:39 PM
Wha, there is a krome sketch group? I keep hearing rumours about it. Do they do it weekly?
July 7th, 2009, 06:11 PM
Nah man as far as i know it was a once off thing.
July 10th, 2009, 06:01 PM
hmm, im a bit sick with the flu (headache and sore throat) today so im not sure if i should head in. I dont particularily want to risk spreading it.
July 10th, 2009, 06:08 PM
Hey Muz, sounds like you need a rest :)
I was going to be late this morning, probably wasn't going to get to SG until 11. If you don't think you'll make it today Muz then I won't come in at all. See you all next week.
July 10th, 2009, 06:10 PM
ok if thats the case should i send out text messages saying that its off this week?
Al is still heading in and will get there at about 11. Phil im waiting for a text back, because he said he wasnt going to go if noone was going but al and inteceptor will most likely be there.
July 11th, 2009, 03:04 AM
Goodness; the drama!
It was just Al and I today. Pretty good. We did some sketching and stuff.
July 11th, 2009, 12:31 PM
Just got back from a family trip 3k metres above sea level. It was great!
Photos will be uploaded soon.. I'll give you guys a link. I will resurrect my sketch thread next week, hopefully.
How are things?
July 17th, 2009, 04:00 AM
Oookay chumz, anyone not coming tomorrow? ;)
July 17th, 2009, 04:25 AM
Ill be thar.
July 17th, 2009, 04:43 AM
July 17th, 2009, 06:31 AM
Alas, no.... again.
July 18th, 2009, 01:52 AM
Phiq - here's the link to that guys work I was telling you about:
I tried looking for that thread with water colour work in it, got bored... sorry.
July 18th, 2009, 04:20 AM
Damn. That guy is prettttttty good. I especially like this one http://i44.tinypic.com/2db9g06.jpg
July 19th, 2009, 12:14 AM
Muz - that comic I was telling you about (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=157592)
July 20th, 2009, 04:01 AM
Okay, my flight is tonight. See you guys next week!
July 20th, 2009, 04:19 AM
Did you buy us any gifts, hahaha!
July 20th, 2009, 04:24 AM
Did you buy us any gifts, hahaha!
He's serious, y'know.
July 24th, 2009, 06:08 AM
I bought you something but they were eaten by my dog.
Okay. I'm sorry. I lied. I bought some cool pencils I wanted to show you guys, but I can't make it tomorrow on the 25th. I'm going to the west end markets with a roommate... so I'll see you all the next Saturday except for Leonard, whom I'll probably see on Monday night for life drawing. ;)
Ciao until then.
July 31st, 2009, 02:35 AM
Hey dudez, I've got some things to take care of tomorrow, so I won't be coming in. Schmorry!
July 31st, 2009, 08:24 AM
interceptor will be coming and i assume spaxe is back.
August 1st, 2009, 02:47 AM
This is the video I was talking about from Immersive Media: http://googlemapsmania.blogspot.com/2009/07/wow-street-view-in-video.html
Muz: I've sent out to the DLF and the local PHP meetup group to see if anyone would know a place for you. If I hear anything, I'll let you know.
.. I think that's about it. Woot. Herman came today! =3
August 1st, 2009, 06:05 AM
Wow, that is very cool.
August 2nd, 2009, 02:01 AM
So ive been thinking about trying to set up a big arty party thing ever since loren told me about the one that him and form had in sydney.
So far im just thinking about venues. It needs to be a place where we can have a live model, music playing and it has to be comfortable.
But yeah thats what im thinking so if you have any ideas shoot em my way. :)
August 5th, 2009, 05:24 AM
hey guys, My brothers paralyzed and in the PA at the moment. I could try and come up before seeing him some time, I will see if my parents let me..
it sounds like a heap of fun :)
August 8th, 2009, 05:02 AM
Yo that was an awesome session :D.
Ended up going all over the city. Botanical gardens 2 pubs, one with bad hiphop the other one was awesome, arty little one.
Phil yo missed out :D.
August 10th, 2009, 04:50 AM
Thumbs of the photos I took at Saturdays sketch meet. Twas a good session.
August 10th, 2009, 04:54 AM
nice photos :)
August 11th, 2009, 07:54 PM

Also we need some GIRLS for sketchgroup. D:
I dont care if you cant draw, just come and hang with us :D....
August 16th, 2009, 06:00 AM
Haha, that sounds a little desperate Muz! And whilst we're on the subject of girls... one has been the reason why I have been out of action these last two weeks. Anyway, I should be there this Saturday.
August 16th, 2009, 06:10 AM
bring her along!
and im not desperate... well not THAT desperate... maybey i am.... shut up....
August 16th, 2009, 09:07 AM

And... probably not going to bring her along, sorry ;)
August 16th, 2009, 09:14 AM
Already seen it last night with johnny at the imax. (Johnny is a new guy)
And it was sweet!!!!
Aw not an art chick? lame
August 19th, 2009, 11:03 PM
I just paid the holding deposit for top floor on oct 2nd.
We have an event to organise....!!
Ill start putting everything together tomorrow afternoon, start calling around for quotes on models, and seeing who is interested in presenting.
Also still not happy with the names we have come up with.... ill have something soon.
August 19th, 2009, 11:33 PM
October 2nd is my birthday...
...but I might still turn up ;)
August 19th, 2009, 11:35 PM
haha, well then ill organise a cake as well.
I know its on the same date as the 48 hr game contest but this is really for a diffferent crowd so i went ahead anyway.
August 20th, 2009, 12:01 AM
Haha, don't worry about a cake. As for the 48hr game comp, artists are wasted on that thing; a team of programmers wins it every time (and guess which team will probably win it again this year...? ;))
August 28th, 2009, 09:21 AM
Hey dudez, I won't be in tomorrow... because I am moving house! But I shall rather surely be in the following Saturday because I will have moved considerably closer to our meeting spot (well, from where I am now). Have fun!
September 15th, 2009, 08:55 PM
Contrast symphony is going on ahead. I've almost got everything organised.
I should have some sort of digital poster made in the next day.
The details are.
Oct 2nd 7-10 formally
$15 door entry
Topfloor 99 elizabeth st
September 16th, 2009, 12:09 AM
September 16th, 2009, 03:53 AM
Thats just the corny name i gave the event |:
I also can go on for like 10 min with bullshit that it could mean!
September 17th, 2009, 11:05 PM
September 18th, 2009, 03:05 AM
Good work Muz!
September 18th, 2009, 04:50 AM
Man ive been cutting out flyers all afternoon....
I went to go get 25 sheets printed, and they accidently printed it twice, luckily they charged me the same price for all of them. So now i have 400 flyers |:. I just spent the last 3 hours cutting them up
September 27th, 2009, 07:58 AM
Myself and a number of my classmates will be there with bells on.
September 27th, 2009, 06:18 PM
Hi mundanity :).
Awesome to hear it!
October 12th, 2009, 08:51 PM
Hey chumz, kinda recently we briefly talked about those photo books about crazy Japanese fashion. Does anyone know/remember what those books are called? I think it was Fruits but I'm not sure.
October 23rd, 2009, 03:05 AM
Phil. yeah they are the Fruits books.
October 24th, 2009, 05:33 AM
man i hate being so busy :(
October 24th, 2009, 05:46 AM
Hey guys, long time no see!
Hope y'all are well. Lots of shiz happening in my personal life, but since getting my dayjob I don't have Saturday mornings free anymore so can't make it to sketchgroup :(
How'd the shindig at Top Floor go the other week? Couldn't go to that cos I was workin' again! I hope to catch another one, if there is another one, the next time it's on. Well, just wanted to check up on ya's.
October 28th, 2009, 07:32 AM
Ah fair enough girl. whats the job?
The shindig went awesomly :).
Hmm its going to be haloween on saturday, anyone want to do anything different for it? Any ideas?
October 31st, 2009, 02:57 AM
we had tom from Vienna drop by today :). Was awesome.
But where were all of you? there was just 4 of us, William me, tom and xavier.
October 31st, 2009, 09:32 PM
Uni rape. Will be there again not next Sat, but the one after, and from then on ;)
November 1st, 2009, 01:55 AM
Tom will be holding a painting session tomorrow at the three monkeys from 4-7 if anyone is interested.
he mentioned something to do with portraits as well.
November 1st, 2009, 04:19 AM
Fuck uni, I'm going... anyone else going?
While we're on the subject of the Three Monkeys, for those who have not been there, it is a frikkkkkkkin' good joint. In fact, so good, I suggest we have a special (or trial?) sketchgroup meet at the Three Monkeys sometime when every foreseeable piece of assessment (for those afflicted by assessment at present) is consigned to the dustbin of 2009. What say ye?
November 1st, 2009, 07:57 AM
I have no Idea, but If events are still good, I'll be looking for you guys next year around-ish. It's be sweet to meet some guys actually in my field - for once I get to be the little fish in the big pond. Of course, I'm going to Uni there to do animation. What else? Please check my gallery to see if I'm worthy of you're awesome awesomeness! XD
November 4th, 2009, 09:36 AM
Do you guys know what saturday is?
IS MUTHAFUCKING FREE SLURPY DAY.
Whos up for moving sketchgroup to a 7 eleven :P?
November 5th, 2009, 12:21 PM
It's Slurpee, Muz, gawd!
November 6th, 2009, 08:45 PM
Hmm i slept in this morning by accident.
And i don't think anyone is at sketch group anyway. Apologies to anyone if you did turn up :/
Its hard to keep track of this thing when people show up at random.
November 7th, 2009, 06:42 AM

Anyone know this kid? Saw it on geekologie. Lol'd when i realized it was actually someone I've probably met here already.
November 10th, 2009, 07:45 PM

November 12th, 2009, 04:32 AM
Looks like I may be headed back to Canada before the month is up. Will have a last sketchgroup somenight soon and give back some of the things y'all were kind enough to lend me and grab some drinks. If that's the case, thanks for being so hospitable, Australia.
November 12th, 2009, 04:42 AM
Well it will be a shame to see you go if you have to. But I'm sure its off to do bigger and better things!
So we need to drink for sure!
November 12th, 2009, 04:50 AM
Bummer dude. Well, we shall see thee off with a fine show of something worthy, with alcomojol.
By the way dudez, I still won't be at sketchgroup this Saturday; I have taken an extra shift at work. NEXT Saturday though, absolutely definitely.
November 13th, 2009, 05:09 AM
Ah dammit Loren, that's sh*t! I'm gonna miss you man, no joke! Although I'm sure you'll be on to better things! I'll be up for a farewell drink. :)
Actually, I was just on here to let you guys know what I've been up to. Sorry for the long stretch of absence but I've been tied up ever weekend with things that need doing. I won't be at sketch group again this weekend. Hopefully next weekend I'll be free, then ever weekend after that! Basically Leah and I have been house hunting and a couple weeks ago found something we like. We move into our new place the first week in December, so will have to have you guys around for a BBQ, possibly in the new year.
November 13th, 2009, 10:51 AM
Ah cool new place :). Congrats on finding it!
Oh btw, landed a fulltime job at halfbrick :D! I start as soon as college finishes.
November 15th, 2009, 05:44 PM
Congratulations Muz, that is fantastic news!
November 15th, 2009, 09:18 PM
Looks like it's official. I'll be leaving Australia December 2nd. Starting a new job in Calgary beginning of January. So I was thinking maybe this Saturday evening we could all get together for some drinks and sketching.
gratz, Murray on the job.
November 15th, 2009, 10:09 PM
Aw :(.. It will be sad to see you go, so drinking and drawing on Saturday it is!
Oh btw Herman Rayk and Bumskee rocked up to sketchgroup on sat.
December 11th, 2009, 07:32 AM
Looks like tomorrow will be the last sketchgroup for the year, just going to be as usual, drink some coffee look fancy. you know the usual.
Ill probably start it back up on the 9th, as thats when everyone starts to go to work and all that.
Now im working full time but have weekends and afternoons free, i want to try and formalise the group a little bit, actually put up a blog, post some photos. And perhaps have a fortnightly drink and draw night. As i know alot of people dont come because they like to have their saturdays free or are working. It would be a different change of pace and might draw a different crowd.
I also plan on holding more art events in the new year, but that really depends on how much money i can save, and it depends on the venues that we have access to.
Anyways thats whats going on right now. Peace!
December 12th, 2009, 03:15 AM
I will so be up for night drawing sessions so long as they don't start too late :D
Have a good holiday break y'all!

Muz at sketchgroup: "That movie (Avatar) has fail written all over it."
Hmm, nah... >> http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/8432402.stm
Good movie :)
December 30th, 2009, 12:59 AM
Yeah i know, i saw it and it changed my mind :). It's a good flick.
I still have my problems with it, like how the mechs are an abomination into practical design and coolness. Also the trailer is still horrible.
December 30th, 2009, 05:23 AM
Yeah, the mechs weren't the greatest. Their legs looked like solid chunks of immovable metal and they weren't exactly cutting edge in terms of coolness. The best part was Pandora itself along with its menagerie of colourful creatures :teeth:
January 5th, 2010, 07:15 PM
Ok dudes, sketch group is back on again on saturday :D.
Same place same time.
January 7th, 2010, 04:38 AM
Aw man. I wish I could make it, but as usual I am working that morning.
Buuuuut, the rad news is that I will leaving my weekend-hogging job by March because I got a new job and got into honours for my animation degree. Hope these sessions will still be going then and I can come back to join in the fun :lifedrawing:
January 10th, 2010, 03:37 AM
Oh, wow, I didn't know there was a Brisbane sketch group.
Is there another meeting next saturday?
Would it be horribly rude for me to invite myself along?
January 10th, 2010, 07:49 AM
Your welcome to come along :D!
I'm not compltly sure if ill be there on sat, but i know that there will be people there :D.
Its just taking a bit for people to warm back up to coming after having a breakover christmas :).
January 12th, 2010, 03:10 AM
I'll be along next saturday, then.
