Sherrie McGraw, David Leffel, Daniel Greene all make videos in addition to Schmid, but they're about the same cost-wise. I have seen Schmid's videos and they are worth it. You can't go wrong with The Captain's Portrait. If you have to pick one, that's the one to get. The landscape videos are great too if you're interested in outdoor painting.

Thanks for the input. Maybe I'll pick up Captains Portrait. It jsut so hard to justify spending that much on a vidoe that is 2 hours long.. :(

I know how it is. It's worth the sacrifice though. He covers materials, technique, drawing, and philosophy in the video. He's a real good speaker and you get to see the principles in his book applied into a painting.

Have you seen any videos by other artists? Any other good ones?

I've watched a portrait video of Daniel Greene's and a couple of Vilppu's drawing videos. They're pretty decent. You might want to try any public libraries and see what instructional videos they might have. Also are you familiar with Kamille Corry? She's a realist painter based in Salt Lake City. She recently started up an atelier that you might want to check out. Look her up on the internet and see if you're interested in checking out her school.

All of the videos by Burt Silverman are excellent.
