Hello,

I'm sure, by now, that everyone had heard about Hellgate:London and the demise of Flagship Studios. It was a shame for the studio was great and so was the whole idea behind Hellgate. Since they closed, I've been freelancing for Wizards of the Coast and also attending Concepts Arts 'gifted school for the insane' Atelier.

Until now I never posted a collective of work that I did for Hellgate. To sum it up, while I was on the project from July 2004- July 2008... I had my hands dipped into many roles from animation, to modeling, storyboarding, and concepting. As the company grew, my role was then focused on concepting the character suits and monsters. During the years of development, Massive Black played a big role in helping to define the look of Hellgate plus, kept me in complete shock by their top notch concepts. Nothing like a good kick in the ass, thanks doods!

For Hellgate, the only character class that I had the most influence and direction over were the Hunters. In addition to concepting, I also worked with the marketing department to create covers for magazine and whatnot.

For those whom seen my work before for Hellgate, there will be some redundant work appearing. The work is 1-3 years old all ready... dear lord time is flying by fast. But I did my best to dig up some good archived work that never saw the light of day. Of course, this is only 1/2 of it.... so I did my best to select the most interesting.

Going forward, I have some new work to show that definitely is more refined and rendered... looking forward to showing you those as well as this year progresses.

Thanks to everyone at Massive Black and Concept Art.ORG for hosting such a life saving & inspirational website. Go pick up their book! Its amazing, seriously...

-J-

Your armor designs are pretty cool. They have interesting designs and the shapes work pretty well. The creatures, however, are even better. Some very amusing demons. Very creepy and brutal. Really like those.

I never played the online portion of the game, and haven't played single player for months, but I'm sure I will again. Hellgate will live on even after the servers are closed. In the meantime, I've still got a month to play Tabula Rasa. Both games had a lot of great concept art generated for them, and I'm sure the stylistic influence of the games will live on. Great designs Jason.

Didn't do much did you!... ;)
But seriously, I'm very envious of such an extensive portfolio. Brilliant range of work and designs! I especially like the book cinematic intro work, really captured the style of ye olde religous texts!

Really appreciate all the replies. This has been a massive amount of work and glad that I can share them.

DanielC- Yeah... I love the whole Doom series! Think that was the first game that I played on the PC which caused me to dream that I was still playing. Talk about exhuasting sleep.

Barts, ColumbusSage, sony... mucho thanks. Glad you digs:-)

Duman... The armor designs were a challenge considering that each character class had to look completely different from each other. For the creature designs.. I have a much heated passion for creature designs. I must also confess that all the work that Massive Black had a great influence for ideas and direction.

Maestro Andres... flattered you enjoyed the designs. Its really hard to create something that is unique, so much thanks!

Dahami... that is really kind of you to say such good things about both Hellgate and Tabula Rasa. FYI, Hellgate will continue to live on in Korea. Who knows... maybe it might reappear back in the states years later as a whole new entity?

D@niel... thank you! Actually, for each successful design there were many that were not used. At one point, I created over 40 Cabalists suit designs which all were set aside. For myself, sometimes the hardest part of working on a big project is getting use to the idea of creating a lot of artwork that will never be used or seeing the light of day.

TRIPLE-R-- hell yeah right back at yah! Thanks man!

zanzan... really inspired by your works and always enjoy seeing your postings. Thanks for the comment:-)

Professor Wagstaff... thanks for appreciating some of the work that goes unknown. I had to create over 12 pages for the book which took up more time than I expected. Glad that you enjoy all the designs. Actually, I still feel that I need to branch out more and need to diversify. Always something to learn and work on.

Fantastic concepts. My favourite are the hunter armours in the third image.

I also looked at your portfolio website. Really nice covers and information section was interesting read. No doubt D&D and all those other RPG games are always super strong influence. I can see a little bit of that in your concept art. :)

Cheers.

I can't believe you deeeed these, aaaand that I know you. It's like I'm in heaven, but really trapped in the internet, in a car, that talks, about movies, all the time.

I guess what I'm trying to say is... great work Jason. It was a pleasure to be able to work along side you at the Atelier these last few months. I give you command over Zach. He likes it rough, but tender. You know what I mean.
Later.
