Hello everyone,
I am an enrolled member of the Ft. Peck Tribes in Montana and a Graphic Arts / Film Instructor. I am an aspiring artist in the digital realm as most of my work is analog. I very much enjoy Native Art in all fields, and embrace the purpose and vision of all art that seeks to expand the purpose of peace and beauty.
Please visit my new blog for more info: http://medicinehorse7.blogspot.com/
I invite you to post, comment on, and generally enjoy the many variations of Native Art. I will begin by posting some of my work in the 3D/2D genre. Welcome and enjoy.

I've always been very inspired by native american art. love the subject and styles.
My crits for you on the 2D image are the color choices could use some work, particularly the blue on the tent, looks like it was picked from the existing swatches in photoshop rather than finding the right color with the color picker.
Second is the whole piece feels extremely controlled, do you work with a mouse or tablet? It comes in time when switching to digital, really getting that feel of being comfortable and allowing yourself to work loosely. i would encourage you to explore the brush options in photoshop (what program are you using?) to find a more natural feel for your work.
Continue to explore and practice i remember way back when (and even now) when i first started painting and coloring on the computer, it was a huge mental hurdle to get past the need for precision since i was on a computer and loosening up and really drawing.
Try doing some sketching and quick painting exercises to warm up before doing a piece. work fast and try not to think about the actual end result too much, but rather the gestures of your strokes and achieving the "feeling' of the piece.
hope that helps a little, keep posting!

Thank you for the Crit,
This is actually my first digital version, as I used to work on buffalo hide with pigment, I really need to focus on the product as you can tell. The orginal was a vector piece (hence the cut edge feel) I think your right as most ledger art is somewhat washed and broken. Thank you again for the comment, and come back.

Here is a collage I designed in 3d and I used textures derived from my Photoshop and Painter work. The Feathers textures are all mine made in 2d and imported into Bryce.

HI, I also enjoy native artwork.
I created this a while ago just got some photos I was working on where I needed a nice starting point. Its just a simple model but it helped me in the end.

Thats sweet Mindclot,
I love the Mayan architecture as well, and also want to explore that as well as other forms of Native structures. From what I gather in the gaming industry its absolutley a necessity to explore those genre. Are you going to texture it?

What program was the model created with? I am currently teaching a Maya 2008 Class right now.

No I didn't think about texturing it since it was more of a prop... I might later on if I come across anything that needs it. That model was created in 3D Max Studio. In the past I briefly worked in a mod for a game called Battlefield 1942, did a few models for them when I was on the dev team. I did level development then moved into modeling for my levels. Anyways I'm not doing it anymore but it was a great learning and creative experience.

Hey guy just curious, where are you working now? I'm teaching a CTE course for high school students and am always hungry for inside info on the gaming / illustration industries.
