Dear sir, madam,

This may sound stupid, but in overall i am just a beginner. Is there any special technique to make artworks on for example 1900x2000 pixels? I heard some people blow up their thumbnails from pixels x pixels to 1900x2000 for example and then paint the whole image over.

I have currently now a A6 tablet from Thrust (i know suck label) but still, i would like to learn how they pull it off with special detailed images.

Thanks in advance!

Chane

I'm not entirely sure of what you mean but a common practice is to make a thumbnail sketch of your intended picture at a very low resolution and then simply enlarge the the canvas to what ever resolution you want. You can then lower the opacity of that layer and start painting over it in more detail.

I'm not sure I completely understand your question.
You just start with a low resolution canvas and go to image->image size and enter the new size. You don't even need to start out small, 1900*2000 pixels isn't that big. My 5 year old mainstream PC can handle that resolution no problem. To be honest I would never work on anything under a 300dpi A4, just so I could allways have it printed incase.

I agree with Rubbadub. The only real situation that I can imagine I might have a lower resolution starting sketch is if I was making a series of compositions on a single canvas which I might compare and choose the best one. I would then just grab the smaller sketch, cut it from the canvas and open a new canvas, paste it and then blow it up in the way previously described.

For all other intent and purposes I would just start with a large canvas and gradually improve on a sketch through laters.

Theres stuff that is relatively legal that you could get like M80s or other types of similar firecrackers that can be bought around the 4th of july that would work. Or i suppose simple gasoline would work, but that wouldn't have the "blowing up" effect, just more of a "all of a sudden completely on fire" effect. Hope that helps.
