Hello all -

My name is Ben Oliver and I currently work for Marvel comics, as well as a few illustration bits and pieces. Basically new to the forum, well haven't lurked in years anyway. The range and quality of the work on CA is incredible - motivation and inspiration by the bucketload!

I've just spotted a couple of Marko's covers on issues I've drawn - small world. Shame my interiors didn't match his great work :)

Here's a couple of random pics, will post more if anyone is interested....will also try and find actual concept work I've done in the past.

Hey Ben. Welcome to CA. Very glad to see you posting here! Love the work. I've only really been acquainted with your work for about a year but in that time your covers have always blown me away.

Thanks for sharing.

Hey Ben,

welcome to the boards! I remember seeing that Cable piece a looong time ago and really loving it. The other stuff is superb. The simplicity is really setting it off. Shows a lot of balls mate....

Cheers

Hey all - thanks very much for all your comments, I really appreciate them very much.

Marko - huge fan of your work, the speed, technique and variety of your stuff is just insane.

Here's a couple more images, both covers for British comic 2000ad. One a few years old, the other recent-ish.

Thanks again!

Hi Ben. In Liam's Event Horizon those vampire pieces really made me sit up and take notice in a Woah!! way. It was the first time I saw your work and since then I've noticed it everywhere. Must of been bitten and infected. Loved the strip work you did for 2000ad's Ten seconders.

Kuidf^!

Great work! The simplicity of Batman works very well. Big fan of the Judge Dredd cover. I'm interested in comic cover work myself, if you have some time perhaps you can give me some tips on how to apply for this sort of work?

Hope to see more of your posts! :)

Thanks again all for the great comments -

Dave - hello mate, really must sort out a pint or two soon - nice to see the lovely work coming from yourself as always...

Capprotti - you're right, they are a bit lo-res aren't they? Will sort it out :)

Prof Wagstaff - Nice Dredd you have there yourself mate!

If you want to get in touch with 2000ad there's an address in the front of each weeks issue. Sounds a bit lo-tech but it might be worth writing to them to get a sample script to work from. Also send any work samples you may have.
That's basically what I did back in the day, and got my first pro comics work on the second attempt....

Not sure if they'll go for covers only though - do you do any interior work?

Excellent! Thanks Ben! I haven't done much interior work, I'm working on a comic at the moment but its in its early days.

At the moment I work in commercials doing matte painting, bit of a different ball game :s Though I get to do concept work too.

Sounds like a definite plan for me to get in touch with 2000ad. I'll build up my portfolio including interiors and post more work up here soon :D

cheers!
