Very nicely done.

Also, the ship name made me laugh, and reminded me of Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.

Boom! That's how you do it, baby! I love the idea of a Nemoidian world mechanical Octopus ship. I'd love to see something like that on screen.
Well done!

I like it, especially the lighting on the octopus, very convincing, a bit more than the rest in fact, which is just fine regarding the challenge brief.
Nice job!

What an epic composition. Could I get the blue prints for that octopus? That is a mechanical marvel. I knew that competition was going to push some limits, glad to see how far it's being pushed.

:jawdrop: :xpld: holy shit, man!! that is the coolest thing i've seen lately, i've seen all kinds of steampunk stuff. BUT i have NEVER thought of a freakin STEAMPUNK OCTOPUS! Brilliant work!

January 18th, 2009, 08:10 PM
absolutely amazing! I just think you should have put some people on deck of the ship being attacked. Show some panic or have them fighting it off as well.

Thats very cool. The design of the mechanical octopus is fantastic. It looks like something a mad scientist would build, and thats great.
The only thing that bothers me in the slightest is the strangely ornate sight on the cannon. Everything else is gold.

Very cool. I just find myself wishing I could see some bullets hit the octopus, not just the water. But still, very cool. Rad idea.

This is a really cool piece, the detail is wonderful and it looks incredibly real.

...however, as awesome as this is, I find one thing about it that gives me a headache from hell.

I find my eye being drawn to the right of the image, it goes from the gunner to the octopus and then it follows the octopus' arm all the way up to where it hits the boat - and what happens? I don't even get to see the entire point of impact! I find that to be the focal point of the image, and yet it's cut in half. You have this battle between an ingeniusly built steampunk octopus and it's version of the Titanic, and one utterly badass point of impact where a tentacle bursts through the side of it - and it's chopped in half... The gunner to me pales in comparison of what I feel I should be focused on.

I don't know shit about composition if you want to know the truth, just speaking from a viewer's standpoint, but I feel that if you'd cut the boat with the gunner off and focused more on the impact of the octopus and the ship, it would've been a whole lot better and served as that really, really badass piece you're just going to want to show everywhere.

Regardless of that, I hope like hell to one day have the skills you do.

This is great! A definite masterpiece. And I'm a sucker for anything done well in Steampunk thematically :D

Wonderful idea, and great execution. I love steampunk, and this only reinforces that.
