Hey folks. I'm new here, but I definitely am enjoying the heck out of this site. I've only recently decided that I very seriously want to get myself into the gaming industry as an artist. I have received *no* formal training for any form of art, and needless to say, I feel myself lacking. I've taught myself Photoshop and Illustrator, and I'm quite confident in my abilities with those two programs (heck, I've spent the past three years as the head graphic artist for an advertising company, based off what I've taught myself). Right now I'm trying to force myself in Maya, and thus far I'm loving the heck out of that program. My question to you folks is this: what schools are there that are worth looking into for computer animation, with games in mind? I've looked at Full Sail, and they have quite an impressive marketing blitz campaign. Yes, I've seen fullsailsucks.com, and if anything, the positive posts on that site have made me all the more interested in attending that school. I do have a number of concerns about this though . . . namely my utter lack of "traditional" artistic training. To be completely honest, I don't have any confidence in my drawing or painting abilities. I'm working with clay lately, and I'm finding that I work well in that medium. I absolutely love doing 3D work, and I've only just started. My (rather pathetic in my opinion) portfolio can be found at http://members.cox.net/seanmevans/portfolio/ . As you can see, I don't have much there, and I don't know a thing about building a portfolio. Please forgive the large post, I am just in need of some guidance here. Thanks!

hey JPSmee,

I recently graduated Ringling as an illustration major. I was very impressed with the work of the computer animation majors there. The cost of living in the Sarasota area is great as compared to some other art school locations. It's worth looking into as a possibility anyhow.
