Hello, I'm running Corel Painter X and Adobe Photoshop CS4 on a 17'' 2.5 Ghz Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro with 2 GB of RAM with a NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics card. I sometimes have problems with brush slowdown, and I also get some trouble with Photoshop generating the image quickly enough at 100% when working with large images (8000x8000 pixels, 72 dpi)
Anyways, my mom's boyfriend started going on and on about how there's NO Notebook or desktop program that can consume 2GB of RAM and how I was wasting my money etc, etc...

Anyways, my main question is:

Is he right? Would upgrading my MBP to 4GB of RAM (http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other.../53C4DDR2P4GB/) give me a noticeable improvement, or would there be almost no difference?

Thanks for your help!

I think 2gb of memory should be ok the reason you get brush slowdown is because ur cpu is working over time.

But you know the saying, the more the merrier ;)

Adding ram will definitely help. But the issue here could be with your GPU as his is CS 4.

Working at documents of that size you're going to get lag. It's a part of life.

You'll notice an improvement when working with both PS and Painter simultaneously but honestly it's not going to be anything as fantastic as you might be expecting.

There's $0.02 for ya. :)

This is what happens when you post two identical messages in different forums (Painter and Photoshop). Helpful people end up wasting their precious time answering a query that has already been answered elsewhere (in Painter).
