Very nice stuff, Mr. Kovacs!
I had only come across your name on the forums fairly recently, but then I started seeing your stuff in Spectrum and on a D&D cover (Silver Marches). Definately nice to see your work adorning the covers of books I like.
I also really dig those 3d levels in your gallery.
Eh...ok, I'll stop being a fanboy since this post is about your website. Seems easy to navigate, my only comment is that at 1024x768 (the res I run at work, blah) the navigation at the bottom is often cut off when the page loads. I didn't notice it the first time viewing a gallery as the entry page navigation is at the top...Consistency is good. ;)
Anyways, keep churnin' out some badass stuff! :D

Vance!?
Way to tease us with such teeny-tiny images!
We would love a detail or close up to see your beautiful paint.
You know its like when you are at the museum and you almost put you nose right on the Sargent painting....well until the guy in the black suit comes up and beats you with his walky-talky.

JOSHUAJAMES-
you can see details on a few pieces in the illustrations page. I may do more in the future
I'll update the images with bigger files in the near future
Anemos the Storm- A color tutorial...i'll think about it. It may be a little tricky, unless you want to know something specific?

that new work is really cool. can't wait to see it larger :) the loose brushwork in the flames and clouds around that fire genasi make me wet my pants...
about a tut, i think general info on how to approach the matter would be more useful. like, what are the things you look for when choosing a certain color, what kinds of brushes and edges you employ with what in mind and so on...

vancekovacs-
Don't mean to sound like a simpleton, but do you use photo reference in your figure paintings? I am just curious, cause I see so many excellent portrait and figure paintings, but I never know if they are referenced or not.
Thanks

I agree a coloring tutorial, but what I think we be even better is a huge artbook or some huge poster sized prints. :D
thanks for posting the new art. I constantly check your site definitely a huge source of inspiration.

wonderful work. I recognized your name, but this is my first large-scale introduction to your paintings; very impressive.
Your figures are so supple and loose and the brush strokes are juicy. The images I like best are the ones where there are areas of saturated color and dark darks.
The texture files of masonry are excellent, are they entirely original designs? What cultures influenced you there?

thanks. Truely, I appreciate the compliments.
bwkeough- the textures are built and rendered in Lightwave. I create color & bump maps in Painter. You can look at a tutorial I did up on Newteks site if your interested. I looked at a ton of Itailain and French reference from those "Most beautiful villages of..." books. Fantastic books.
The designs are original ,probably a blend of those books, a little bit of gaudi, and a little bit of Turkish stuff.

I damn near creamed my pants after having been through your site.
Like the others said, a tutorial would be awesome. Something as simple as a step by step progression.
Is this all painter?
Great work, I think I'm your biggest fan. Bigger than even Gekitsu, unless he's heavier than me. :)

After taking a look at some of the tutorials in the 'Tutorial" section, Ron Lemon's (fredflickstone) demos are great, as well as some of the others. Ron's in particular are clear and the step-by-step process is a big plus. I've always coveted more "process" in my own work.
Maybe, the only thing I could add would to be "doing color" in the contex of the computer. I don't have much of a traditional backgound so when guys talk in terms of "mixing colors", Yellow Cads, and Ultra-Marines..I get a "little" lost ,as may some of you. Of course, the ideas would apply accross the board.
I could do a demo on "Magic Color". Color is tricky. That's why there are only theories and no processes. It's more like chemisty or cooking than Math or Programming...
If not that, then feel welcome to shoot me an email with some suggestions on what you would like to see exactly or questions you'd like me to adress.

And would you mind posting directions to the Ron Lemon tutorials?
Cheers...
