[Jofx]

My name's Jostein, I'm 19 years old and from Norway. had a two sketchbooks here before and starting a new one now because my friends at school want me to be as cool as them. Just got to borrow a pc monitor so now i can go back to Digital art again.

Like making simplified figures like this, is it a good thing or should i try to make more organic forms?

Uhmm... a mix of styles? doesent the green in the background look a bit blue or cyan : D? must be the mix of really green colours in the middle mixed with the brown on the site-

nice shapes on her face mate, areas around the eyes could benefit from a little more definition tho. I really like the green one further up. would look great as an ink drawing, then some photoshop colours.

creepy, but cool. The self portrait has some nice shapes, but the eye in full view needs to come in closer to the nose, its too far recessed into the skull at the mo, throws the image off. Actually, it could be the nose thats at too steep an angle, should be more slanted into the brow. I dunno, somethings a little off. great effervescent glow in the last two tho man, and interesting play between hard and soft edges. more please :D.

liker spessielt godt det siste prtrettet av ho jenta. den lille streken som "renner" ned fra kinnet ho gjør så sykt mye forskjeld :) hvordan får du det til å bli så realistisk? :O

wow... the last one is wonderful (as all ofyour images... each one is so different). the only thing i dont like there is the lower part of the image- If I had my way I would cut it :)
btw- what does it mean- the little circle on their cheek?

playing around with this today, trying to start out with blurry instead of getting the blocky forms inn first... takes me forever, think i have learned to blurr after i have the whole form with shapes in place... :D went bored the last 10 mintues and went crazy with random brushes. its the way i like to work i guess.

not that its not naturalistic (i love innaturilsm (is that a word?? ) ) but because in my opinion it does not fit to the head (it may be puropse, isnt it? ), but... well... yeah

p.s.: the eyes in yout paintings are absolutely... mmmm... breathtaking? no... just great

shame the faces don't have more room on either side to breathe, but I love the fiery mess in the top left hand corner. Oh, and the piece above that is awesome, mouth looks a bit off, should be more to the left perhaps, but hey, no worries.

Your style in teh digitals is amazing. I really think your studies show a lot potential, more even then the digital stuff. Your themes are quite dark and gothicy. Would you mind showing us some other pics that show another side of you?

Thats really nice man, love how the hair's fading off into the background. I really like the pencil hatching life drawings, great textures, especially in the last one. I think sometimes your life drawings could do with more curves, the limbs in particular often look a little too straight. still, nice work.

The two paintings on the top are acrylics and the portrait under them is done with Oils. I desided to test out oils again and i think i got it now(you tell me). I got inspired by bengine(http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?p=2294602#post2294602) and my friend from school Mischeviouslittleelf (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?p=2294453#post2294453)

Umh yeah im jusing white spirit, should i be using something else? and i guess i need my own pencils for oil?

I want to do more than just simple portrais (and i like them women) so im going to do some full body ones that are detailed. hope you like it so far.
I also want have more of a dialog on in my sketchbook because i want to learn to use more time on stuff and make something finished. I guess posting WIPs and to get comments on them helps.

Her upper arm looks a tad long, and her belly looks as if it's pointing out more than it's supposed to. Other than that: awesome :D

Iddi- yeah the arm will be fixed to! and ass for the belly im going to add even more shadow under it so that its not pointing out (think i did i bit on this update)

Oh on the last picture... he was actually standing with his feet like that, annoyed the hell out of me since it looks awkward.

as I said earlier, nice study. about his foot, I agree it was awkward. something that use to help is to draw the platform or line out the perspective of which he stands in. I like step 3 a lot. Step 4 almost got a bit messy. I like the highlights, but be careful not to ruin the construction!

Hey you are doing great on defining planes I think. I like that. :)
In the 2 woman study in #91-#93 I think that the first 2 feel better than the last, because of the smudged areas in the last one. Looks a bit messy there ..

The latest portrait is good, but I am no super fan of that eye. It is not so much that it doesn't look right, but if you take into the equation the roughness of the other strokes, the eyes are just a little to rendered. Mind you I am nitpicking, but it is a valid point. Also, there are not NEARLY enough updates here. From here on I excpect daily updates, and I will be keeping tabs on wether or not you show up for sunday sketch group. I am watching you!

Now on the up side, the last couple of pieces show a lot of improvement, even from the things you did this spring, so you are keeping it flowing man, but try and step it up, do more studies, and don't be affraid to mix it up between really through studies like the dames you did, and some real intuitive poses and stuff^^

Hey quality studies...it seems your Studying all there is to study in order to improve, if you continue in this fashion i guarantee you will improve...just do some amazingly finished pieces of work in between all the studying...

Very nice sense of design, colory and composition, you're lucky to have that. Also i like your modeling approach with the dead colors. My suggestion would be: try to do a bit more of the basic studies (bridgman, vander etc)
