Ok here's an updated image of a breakdancing stage i did a while back... before the stage surface looked a bit much like water or ice, so i just now had a chance to go in and make an adjustment. All i really did was add some scuff marks onto it but i feel as though it's much more effective than before.

Awesome stage!!! ... i'd die for dancing on this :)

Rone down the reflectiveness of the stage a bit and rather than adding a tile add reflection marks indication skid marks from shoes. I'd also try to blend the stage more into the enviroment by making it look a bit more rusty and used ... right now it looks like it just came in :).

Funny thing is I'm actually a b-boy. I've Been competing for 9 years and we never have stages like this unless its at Battle of the Year hahaha. This is cool man. Nice floor!

Don't make it tile, you would never break on tile.
Make it hardwood flooring like most dance floors.

Also, I think it's a little odd that the spot lights in the foreground are facing us instead of the dance floor.

Overall, this is pretty nice image.
I'd love to see you add a crowd!

i was thinking more like very large linolium or so tiles moreso than say bathroom tile, when i looked into a few stages some of them seemed to look that way, but i actually think wood is a good idea that im def gonna try with some scuff marks.

as for the lights in the foreground facing us, all around the stage i have lights in there that shine towards the would be crowd and those are just the ones from say a certain crowd members vantage point from that part of the arena... the ones facing the stage are not in view haha

thanks for the tips once again!

That's very good. But something about the ring out the outskirts of the arena called out to me as being unfinished. It might be that most of the walls in the background (and everywhere really) have textures on them, but the arena is clean to the point where it looks fake, try adding at least a tiny bit of dust or speckle on the highlighted areas. When noticing something was wrong with the boundaries of the stage, my eye was immediately drawn to the highlights, so add some spots and scratches of grays in those firstly-noticed areas and see how that looks.

after the latest repsonses my attention has been drawn to the exact same thing... the stage itself is the center of attention yet it receieved the least of mine... i know EXACTLY what u mean! the sage is lacking in almost all aspects and needs improvement!

thanks again for tthe crit!

I traveled around the world break dancing in the 80's, so it's a pleasure to see a Break Dancing concept here. Very cool!

My two cents:

Tiles suck for breakdancing, they are too hard and they hurt. Linoleum is OK, but not ideal. It's only good as a makeshift floor. You can carry a rolled up piece of linoleum and a boom-box and set up anywhere. That's the only advantage. The fourth floor of Danceteria was a place where breakers hung out in the 80's and that had a black and white tiled linoleum floor, it was great because it was slippery, but man was it unforgiving.

Best floor is a floating wood dance floor like the at the Roxy (of Beat Street fame), Funhouse, and Roseland in New York. It's called a floating wood floor because there is a layer of rubber underneath the wood. These floors were a pleasure to dance on. That is why the best breakers in 80's hung out at these places.

Also the little rail around the circle is cause for concern. Should be padded. I saw a show once and the dance floor had a short metal rail around it, similar to yours. One of the breakers accidentally let his backspin go wild and his head banged against the rail and there was blood everywhere.

Also I think the speakers could be much bigger, so you can knock the roof off with the sound. It really pumps you and the audience up when you can feel the boom of the base drum through your whole body. Your speaker look like they would make a little tinny sound.

I agree with Dos Santos, the foreground lights should be facing the dance floor not us.

One last thing, where is the DJ booth? Should be like Cockpit looking down at the dancers like Bambatta had at Roxy. Maybe behind bullet proof glass or something. Hip Hop made the DJ a part of the experience, in this case, the DJ could be like a ring master.

Anyway, I love the piece, kudos to you for originality!. You just brought back a flood of memories to an old man like me. Thanks! :afroboy:

Appreciate the comment and those are all things ill consider reworking

with the the whole speaker thing i totally understand what you're getting at. in my model i had a whole system of much much larger speakers that actually hung down from the rafters and sets above the stage, its unfortunate that because of the angle you cannot see them in this image and I dont know how well super large speakers would go in the place of where i have my smaller ones, but i'll mess around with it.

Also, regarding the foreground lights - if you take a close look at the image you can see that the lights face the audience on all sides of the stage. The lights hitting the stage you obviously cannot see because they are on the other side of that overhang where the other lights are. I looked at some reference photos of stages for that basic set up. Again ill try and see if i can re-work it and see if i like it better that way.

Thanks again!
