I'm looking forward to this right now, from Henry Selick based on Neil Gaiman's book:

This is probably the strangest promotional video I've seen yet. It's the art director's dancing moustache.

Still, this movie looks like it will be rather interesting. Not sure why every company seems to be jumping onto the 3D movie bandwagon, though.

I think it looks interesting

ninjacat, it's not 3D, they're using puppets.

tobbA - I think he's refering to it being shown in 3D, with glasses. :)

That video is fab!

That's what I meant.

Why are so many good movies coming out in 3D now? Up, Coraline, Monsters vs Aliens, Avatar (James Cameron one)...Last time I counted a good 3D movie, there really wasn't anything to list.

I was excited to see the poster and then trailer for this when I went to see Despearaux for my birthday treat (Sp?!)

It seems like I've been taken to see an animation at the cinema for my birthday treat since I was at least 11 (beauty & the beast) if not younger - Im certainly not complaining though! cant think of a better way to distract myself from the cruel march of time ;)

I remember enjoying the book, hope the animation lives up to it *fingers crossed*

Can't wait for the movie to come out.

There are already lots of Coraline books out as well. I will be getting the Visual Companion (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0061704229?ie=UTF8&tag=parkapix-20&link_code=as3&camp=211189&creative=373489&creativeASIN=0061704229).

As far as I can tell its a gimmick so that they can charge more and possibly attract bigger audiences. What's more, the gimmick isn't labor intensive and therefore does not require paying for more manpower.

I gotta admit I'm pretty disappointed that Dave Mckean wasn't involved. It just doesn't quite seem like 'Coraline' without his gritty, mysterious concepts.

The Coraline character also seemed suspiciously 'tweened' with blue hair highlights and extra spunk; not the book's broody, dark-haired Coraline.

Then again, it is one of my all-time favorite books, so my opinion of the movie is extremely biased.

Saw it in 3D last night. Fucking loved it from start to finish.

However, if I had seen that when I was a kid, I would have had nightmares for MONTHS.

hopefully ill see it this weekend.
is the book based of alice in wonderland i thought i heard someone mention something like that?
any way the 3D thing yah it is quite gimickie i dont mind going to see the occasionaly film thats already released redone in 3d at the imax but i dont think its going to revolutionalize anything any way
heres a pic of the cameras that are used to do 3D kind of cool i know its not the exact cameras but i think it kind of shows the idea pretty good.

You know... I can't help but think that someone in imax wasn't inspired by this.

Yeah, i took my neice and nephew to go see it, they werent too happy about the last few parts of the movie with the evil mother :s

It was pretty damn awesome though! It was pretty cool in 3d, and I hate wearing 3d glasses. I still cant believe most of it was stop motion. Maybe ill go see it again actually

Loved it. Beautiful, and it made me want to go home and draw, which is usually the sign of a good movie. :P

I just saw it. Amazing film. I usually dislike 3D a lot, but the 3D was actually a nice supplement here.

It's surprisingly creepy, too.

I would definitely like to see more animated films like this and Wall-E that treat viewers like adults.

I saw it as well. The 3-D's amazing. Stereoscopic imagery has really gone a long way.

The story was great as was the animation! One of my favorite animated films and definitely Selick's best.

I applied to Laika before I'd heard of them... they actually e-mailed me a couple of times, though apparently as far as I got was "kept on file". The studio was founded by Phil Knight who cofounded Nike, and the studio is planning to build a 30 acre studio 12 miles south of Portland. From their webpage it looks like they've got a great pool of people on both the creative and business side. I don't think I'd mind working there and am looking forward to getting more portfoio work done for the sake of reapplying.

Honestly, I was a bit leery of the Coraline title, but it's gotten really great reviews, including oscar mentions. Sounds like I need to go see this. Also, the visual companion book memtioned above is a great book.

It's a shame that we still have the old 3D theaters in my country; I watched the movie in 2D. I still liked the amounts of detail that they gave to the animation, you don't see much stop motion animation in these days. It's a shame that the kids didn't liked the movie, some of them left in the half of the movie, others were scared and others were bored and asked when was the movie going to end.
