I've been hanging about here on CA for a while, and I kept meaning to start a sketchbook. So here it is, finally.
I answer to many names- Mikhail, Aze and Idiot among them. And of course, I always answer if someone is offering free food. I've been drawing for as long as I can remember. I'm a perfectionist, I procrastinate, and according to people elsewhere on the 'net, I pick girly screen names.
For most of last year I was sharing a computer, and even though I have my own now, I haven't transferred all of my files yet. I haven't got much to show atm, but as I spend at least five or six hours drawing each day, I will probably have more soon enough.
I mainly use pencils or pen, though lately I've been messing with oil paints. I learnt to paint digitally with Paint Shop Pro 8, and I still use it from time to time, though I also use Painter X.

More recent shite. I do have pages of anatomy studies and stuff, yeah. I just haven't posted them.
A portrait of another original character, Veradi. The painting was actually done in colour but I'm not quite happy with it. I can see lots of flaws to go back and fix, which I will do when I'm not as preoccupied with other shit- for the moment he will have to wait.
The companion peice to one of the ones in the first post, of the same character, Asael.
A copy of a photo I took at St Ives, Cornwall.
Another original character portrait; Aveira, waiting for her family to get back from the battlefield. No reference, just a doodle while watching a film.
Another random illustration, again drawn without ref while watching a film.
Sooo yeah. Some traditional stuff and some digital stuff. I've been feeling like shit the last few days so I've hardly drawn anything. And I mean shit- I haven't slept in about 48 hours I'm so tired my legs are shaking when I walk, and I feel like a zombie. So I'm going to take a nap now and then I'll see about being productive while watching Monty Python or something.
Anyway, hope you like the art, comments would be appreciated.

:] I was just visiting this sketchbook briefly earlier today and was gonna yell at you to update. Thankfully, you did, and I don't have to grab a megaphone.
You have some nice faces here. I think for the rendered digital sketches, though, it's probably better to use bigger brushes. For this picture (http://conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=561179&stc=1&d=1231605363) the wrinkles look a little uniform; try some other styles of wrinkles?

Good start to your SB. Maybe if you are looking to improve you could spend some more time on your works. Also, like myself, you could push your values for more contrast. Keep posting, good luck.

Hi,
Nice start here, you should indeed focus on contrast, and beware on proportions on the last sketch, this one is quite flat and the anatomy is strange.

Hey guys... wasn't expecting any replies so soon, caught me by surprise. Thanks! Just got back to the computer after a shortish nap... feeling a lot better.
Shalite: Yeah, slow update, I know. Like I said, I procrastinate, heh... Using bigger brushes is something I've been meaning to work on, I'll keep that in mind. And I've been meaning to do a few drapery studies, so I'll probably get a chance to play with wrinkles and folds soon enough. Thanks for the suggestions, much appreciated.
Bill: I will admit, I don't finish shit half as often as I should. I will definitely try to put some finished stuff up here soon. Contrast is something I'm wary of, but I'll definitely try to improve that.
Feil Magnus: Yup, I can see the proportions are screwed up on that last one now. I'll watch that next time I go drawing without refs. I got distracted halfway through it and didn't pay much attention to what I was doing -.- Thanks for pointing it out!
I have dinner at last, and my pencils are calling to me. I'll hopefully produce something that will merit an update in the next day or two.

very nice sketches :) I like your way of using gothic designs. you seem to only have women here, though, and all of them in almost similar positions... but that will change when you update, right? :D

AHEM, to bring it to your attention guys... Veradi is NOT a woman. -.-
He may be slightly androgynous, as am I at times, but he is not a girl.
Similar positions, I know. That is a coincidence, also I just don't clean up most of the more creative ones cause I'm lazy.
Update? Haha yeah, um *looks shifty* It will happen eventually. I seem to have hit a brick wall. Everything is going backwards. The more I draw, the worse it gets... When I have something passable, I will show you guys. I swear.

Agh sorry for no updates guys, so ashamed of myself.
The art block is finally ebbing away. I'm trying to do about ten things at once, and it's kind of chaotic, thus not much drawing time... Had to go to the doctor's yesterday and spent the rest of the day passed out. But I did doodle a bit last night, here's what I got.
Yes, I really will try to update sooner next time. And yes, there will be more guys in here, soon, I swear. And better quality photos, heh... Just felt like I should update so you know I'm not dead or anything.

Damn thing just deleted my comments. Fuck. Let's try this again.
Hey guys, I am still alive but slowed by art block. My sketches aren't coming as well as I'd like so I only have a little bit to show you.
My original character Sonni, whose hair fucks up every picture I draw of him. Plus I can't get my head around the texture of the paper in that sketchbook.
Gnarled trees scratched out while watching the Underworld films (god damn I love them- the films, that is) on printer paper. I like to draw in this style, it makes a nice change from clean lines and thinking about each little detail.
Dunno what the last is, but I quite like the end result. Same tecnique as the above- scribble til something jumps out at me. Drew this really early in the morning, about three or four am, and in an A3 sketchbook. I should stay up and draw in there more often.
I will hopefully get back on track soon, if life doesn't throw any more random shit (or snow) at me. Why is it snowing so much in the UK anyway? I'm getting a little sick of it now, even though it looks cool. I want to be able to leave the house sometime this century...!

This last batch is really nice. Sonni looks very good, the only problem is that you can see more of the hair-middle-line-whateva than you could from this viewpoint.

Ah yes, I see that now. Thankyou for the comment!
I have a few things I'm working on, when I find my camera I'll upload them. Hope you all are well!

So I stole- ahem, borrowed a camera so I could update hehe.
First, a random sketch from the 14th. Have no idea what it is, vaguely inspired by sea creatures and fossils. Meh, I wasn't feeling very good that day.
Two drapery studies, one of some silky coat lining I found lying about and one of a heavy cotton. The lighting in the photos is terrible, sorry.
And a random sketch from earlier. Some kind of creature... I don't know, I was just scribbling and thought I'd stick it up here. Lighting is also fucked in this. Ah well.
Hopefully this will have restored some faith in my updating this thing more often hehe. Oh, and you know what? I just found my camera... it was right next to me the whole bloody time *shakes head in disbelief*

Another quick update. Just before I forget...
Sketch that's been floating around in my head for a while- a bringer of disease and death. I'll have to do some neater versions of this at some point.
Also, a sketch from yesterday night which I'm not really that keen on, but will upload anyway. I know she has really long fingers- that was intended, I just never finished the pic.
Hopefully I'll come up with something more finished soon, but I've not really been in the mood for finished peices lately.

Thanks for stopping by my thread. Looks like you're getting to work in here! Keep pushing those studies. And when your drawing the figure do your best to understand the underlying structures first. Break it down into cylinders, cones and all that good stuff. It seems you're relying a lot on your lines and the construction sometimes feels wonky. You'll get there soon tho!

Hey, thanks for the comment :D
I've been working on my anatomy a bit more the last day or two. So hopefully my next post will be a bit better in that area. And thank you for the encouraging words!

Hi...
Lotet- thanks for the comment! I've been working at this ever since I was old enough to hold a pencil, so I doubt anything or anyone'll stop me now... hehe
Here are some new sketches to show from last night and just now. I have been doing a lot of perspective and anatomy studies recently, so I thought I'd do some more finished looking stuff, and post it here. Might add some more later tonight... I have another 'finished' sketch somewhere that ought to be uploaded.
Photo ref, somewhere between 30mins and two hours... I completely lost track of time when drawing the first one, I was so tired. The second was about half an hour, maybe 45 mins, not absolutely certain. Should I put some kind of warning in the thread title? Do you reckon more people would look if I mentioned nudity? hehe
Anyway, yeah, pretty happy with the shading on these. I wanted to try rendering a figure-study type thing, keeping in mind what I've been learning from the quick studies out of books... I think they came out reasonably well... didn't trouble myself with faces, since I do lots of portraits all the time and I knew it'd just distract me trying to get the faces right.

The shading, esp on the right one, is very nice. Wouldn't have minded to see some faces on those beautiful girls, but as you wish! ^^
The line coming from under the breasts on the left one comes up too much!
Cheers mate

Oh my fucking god, how long have I left updating? Shite, and I was so sure I'd get the whole 'updating more often' thing that time -.-
Well, anyway. Here's a dump of art from the last month or so.
1- Anatomy study- male this time- from the same day as the last time I posted. Really should have posted this earlier, huh.
2- One of my mother's shoes, just a doodle to fill space in an oldish sketchbook of mine... late Feb.
3- Carbon pencil drapery study, late Feb again. Bit of Sanguine pencil in there too.
4- Carbon pencil figure study. 20 mins.
5- Assassin's knife in Blender.
6- Battle Axe in Blender.
7- Pencil figure study. 5 mins. I was doing another, but I got distracted by a friend IMing me. Late March.
8- Another two 5 min drawings. Late March again.
9- And more... 10mins.
10- More... 15 mins.
11- Artrage painting... Didn't check how long this took.
Refs are from characterdesigns and http://mjranum-stock.deviantart.com/
In other news, I got a new keyboard. The musical-instrument kind. I am in love with it. Will visit CA again later, for now the TV beckons. Hope you'reall well.

No more two month breaks, yeah...
A couple more anatomy studies, 2H and 3B pencil. I had some Bridgman stuff lying around but it wasn't nearby when I grabbed my camera, so iit will have to wait until the next update I suppose.
Another knife I forgot to upload last time. Blender, texture in PSP8.
And another Artrage painting from the other day.
Refs from http://www.mmaphotography.com/ and http://mjranum-stock.deviantart.com/
I checked through the Reverie photos. Looks like it was awesome... And the photos alone have inspired me to get my ass back to the drawing table... or rather to put my feet up on my desk, lean my tablet on my knees and balance paper on top of that and draw. Hell, it works for me...

Sketchup concepts...
Will post more sketches and stuff when my camera batteries are charged.
In other news, I'm going to Portsmouth soon. Going to go and see the ships there. Am very happy about that.

I seriously don't bite. Really.
Old sketch of the water feature in the garden and a pear painting in Painter X. Just finished some watercolours, I'll upload shit tomorrow... maybe.

Paint tubes from life, quick 1hour study in Painter X. Also, old master copy I started a few months back in Paint Shop Pro, now taken into Painter and worked on some more.
And an unfinished environment concept painting based on a Sketchup Model. Lots of stuff to do with this one still. Painter and Paint Shop Pro.
Am I wearing my invisibility cloak without realising or something? *looks about*
