I am starting work on a Christmas present portrait for my fiancé and for some of her family members. She is studying Opera in VA and this is going to be a portrait of her in her first Opera costume. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated! ^__^

This is my color rough so far...

I think itīs coming along very nicely, but I would just like to warn you, some people that make that kind of drawings sometimes ignore the ground and background. The image benefits greatly from a detailed and well done background, sometimes itīs what seperates good from medium.

anywho, the only thing I think is wrong with this picture is the lightsource seems to be a bit misplaced.. if Iīm reading this correctly the shadows are made by the moon. But the tree behind her has a short shadow, barely reaching from the tree while she has a long shadow extending over the water in front of her.

But the pic as a whole is very good.

(excuse my english, not my native language)

Thanks for the tips! :D I'll be sure to put alot of effort into the back ground. I added a real shadow to the tree, those were more back shadows to bushes. :) damn my hand is getting kind of sore, I really want to get a macro pad!

This smile scares me. I dunno why. It's a bit freaky. :)
Also I think that the legs are a bit short (or the butt us too low positioned).
But in overall it is nice. I'm looking forward to see the final.

yea ever since I was little I ALWAYS made the legs a bit too short. I think I see what you mean about the smile, but I am not touching the faces for a while till I catch up with the background. :)

I made the legs a bit longer and added some color to the dress and gloves.

itīs going great.

On the issue of the smile.. I think itīs because either the eyes arent smiling (that is they are normal, no muscles are pullung at the corners of the eyes from that big ol smile) or the smile is too angular.. I think itīs rather the former than the latter.
