Peter Pan (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0316396/)
It was amazing.. like a storybook brought to life.
Pirates of the Carribean: On Stranger Tides (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1298650/)
This movie wasn't disappointing because I didn't expect much. The visual elements were fine..though some dramatic moments were missed. The part that bothered me was the fact that the second half of the film was basically Ian McCaigs' Gnomon video on storytelling.. only in PotC instead of space. I actually sat through the credits and did some searches half expecting to see his name.. but nope.. just some guys ripping his concept :/

The recently restored/lengthened version of the 1927 Metropolis. (Not the Giorgio Moroder version. :nohope: )
Incredible movie. I regret putting off watching it for so long.

The other day I finally finished Kamen Rider Den-O. It's definitely flawed, and the tie in movies are almost all pointless (and there's 8 of them), but the characters were as fun as I had hoped when I watched the OOO crossover months back.
Yasuko Kobayashi did much, much better when she wrote OOO, but I still enjoyed Den-O despite it's flaws.
"俺参上!"
I watched a little bit of Fourze, but I'm far from up to date. It's surprisingly decent. I was expecting the franchise to hit a slump after OOO (Compare Den-O and Kiva), but I guess not. Fourze actually has Gurren Lagann's screenwriter as the head writer. That's interesting.
Speaking of OOO, Hiroaki Iwanaga is gonna be the voice for Guts in the new Berserk movie. I don't care about Berserk but that's interesting as well.

A few weeks back, but I finally got down to watching Blade Runner. Oh my God, what an awesome cyberpunk movie. Everything I'd ever wanted from one, I got. Harrison Ford as Deckard was amazing - so young and so able to play the hardboiled cop and yet, so vulnerable in the last third of the movie against Roy - and Rutger Hauer was beautifully expressive. Whole movie just reminded me of Night City from William Gibson's 'Neuromancer' novel and Syd Mead's art and art direction is mind-blowing.
Whenever I next get time, though, I'm gonna check out Dark City. That one looks nifty as well.

I finally watched Naked Lunch. I have heard about it for many years. Without researching what it is supposed to mean, I interpreted it to relate to addiction:
The giant insect imagery seemed to relate to the parasitic qualities of addiction; and for me personally, some of the disturbing, dreamlike visuals that I would get from the DT's.
Aside from the crazy scenes in the film, a lot of it bored me, to be honest. Still worth checking out for profound weirdness.

Currently watching Charlie Jade, which only made it to one season (which kind of sucks). Very interesting show about multiverses and corporate control, and it gives off that Blade Runner feel. It took a couple of episodes to get into it, but definitely worth looking at. They do a lot of interesting, subtle dialogue and camera moves that I rarely see watching movies/series now.

Been watching the latest season of Torchwood. It's not as good as I remember it... I wonder if it's because it's gotten worse or just if my memory's bad. :P It's still pretty fun, but most of the dialogue and plot points feel pretty dumb.

Man what a movie, real witty and those rollerball matches, now -thats- violence, you can really feel some of those blows. Great stuff.

The original Night of the Living Dead. Good movie.
I actually watched it with Rifftrax. MAYBE a bad move for my first time actually watching the movie, but it didn't detract from anything.
EDIT: Just found out the actor who played the first zombie died this week.

Just watched the new Conan and Super 8.
I don't know why people think they need to mess with Conan so much. I mean, Tower of the Elephant, Queen of the Black Coast, Hour of the Dragon, Along The black River all are movie ready stories. I hope in my lifetime someone makes a good Conan movie from a Howard story.
Jason Momoa looks the part and the sets were pretty close to what I think of as Hyborea. I just wish they had more money for production values. The armor and clothing looked cheap and fight scenes could have been staged better.
Super 8 was a good idea for a movie and the acting was pretty good from the kids, who usually deliver cringe worthy performances. I wish the monster scenes were better and the story was a little tighter. All in all, it seemed like a good movie that maybe tried to do too much.

Just watched Labyrinth again, wife had never seen it before. I enjoy a lot of the muppet work and matte paintings.
But, ugh, those musical numbers, almost as unbearable as the weirdly huge bulge in Bowies tights. Whole movie should have been about an hour shorter.

Silent Hill for the gawd knows how many time.
Probably one of the few who enjoyed that movie despite the little girl's acting being cringe worthy and the game inaccuracies.

I had a faint memory of having watched this movie before while it played, i´m sure i did , or part of it when i was a kid so i dont remember it well but i realize how a lot of the images really stuck trough the years in the back of my head. Well made and hard to forget movie.
Mullholand Drive Between the shittiest movies i´ve ever seen, reminded me of Teorema by Pasolini, which, i´d say, also was fucking terrible.

The Exorcist.
It was ok. It's one of those movies where I'm way to young to really appreciate it due to how big a part it has in popular culture, which is to the point where all the things that made it memorable have been parodied to death.
I think it rushed too much through the main priest's backstory. Or should I say the stuff that happened to his mother. First scene we see him checking up on her, next she's suddenly in a psychiatric ward, and then she dies off screen? Too fast.
Also finished Kamen Rider Blade (2004) the other day. It was a decent show and I liked the ending. Doesn't beat OOO or Den-O, but there was enough I liked about it. The alternate canon movie had alot of wasted potential, though.

I keep hearing about Sherlock lately. I probably should check it out.
Finished Kamen Rider Kabuto (2006) now.
It's not a good season by any means. This is the first season I've sat through that I can call pretty bad. It had some horribly annoying characters, interesting plot threads that immediately shrivel and die, and so much inconsistency and plot holes that you could tell how thrown together the overall writing was.
But there were some pretty nice character designs (Not so much for the monsters outside of maybe two creatures), some nice humorous bits (For some reason, it tried to one up Blade with a goofy midseason two-parter focused solely on cooking. Didn't beat Blade's but it was fun.) and the final stretch was still pretty enjoyable all things considered.
I don't recommend it at all, but at least I finally got it over with and had a little fun in some parts.
Forgot to mention a month or two back that I finished Kamen Rider Kuuga (2000). Now Kuuga was pretty decent.

Just watched the new episode of Legend of Korra. Didn't disappoint one bit. Often the first episode of a series will rock then the quality takes a dip but not here. They didn't dawdle in the storyline either. Already getting into the thick of things.

After watching Sage's review (http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/bt/the-sage/anime-abandon/34985-anime-abandon-the-ultimate-teacher) the Ultimate Teacher.
You can find both US and UK dubs in Youtube, and I love looking through different dubs and comparing them to the original (which I also watched) because the old dubs occasionally make huge changes in the dialog.
The Japanese version of this is actually pretty bare when it comes to random jokes, the US dub adds more random commentary jokes but sticks to the Japanese dialog more, and the UK dub stays away from adding jokes but also twists the dialog to be very different (but has overall better voice acting in my opinion). It's really fascinating sometimes.
And I'm also one of Those People that really loves this sort of bizarre nonsense comedy so Ultimate teacher was totally up my alley :D

Starbarians Episode 1-This was a huge disappointment. I mean, the animation was excellent, but every joke was just lacking. As much as I liked Bo-Starr, Misinterpretive Porn Star, and Saturday Morning Watchmen; Harry's cartoons have been disappointing for quite some time.

Angel Densetsu
One very "untypical" anime movie (and manga) which I might recommend to check out if you dislike the stereotypical "big eyes, small mouth desu kawaii magical girl/übermuscled over 9000 fighting" animu.
The basic idea is so simple (a nice guy with a scary face) but they get so much stuff from it.

Last week I completed Kamen Rider 555 (2003). At the end it pulled a really crappy twist that needed alot more build up to be plausible. And this season happened to have two supporting riders that were either the most despicable supporting rider I've ever seen, or the most forgettable supporting rider I've ever seen. I can't call the former one much of a drawback to the show itself, really. (Plus he dies at the end. Yeah, spoiler, but it's not like you actually care about a 40 year old Japanese kids franchise about a dude in a bug costume who rides a motorcycle and fights rubber suit monsters.) It's an ok season.
It was so worth it just for this guy.

Another week, another season of Kamen Rider. It's SO easy these days! All I need to do is put aside 3 hours a day and I can finish a season of these shows in a week.
It used to take me months to a year to ever finish a single season of a tv show (or even watch movies), but once you set up a schedule to follow this mess is a cinch! I had no idea it could be this easy.
This time it was Kamen Rider Ryuki (2002). It's an ok season. There were better ones for sure (particularly by the same writer, who made my two absolute favorite seasons).
It had a fun main character (he's not the best character, though), despite the fact that he never had any real bearing on the plot. I think my favorite thing about him was his distinct voice. It's just perfect for his character. And most of the supporting cast was fun, too.
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d17/CaptainKRool/vlcsnap-2012-05-11-22h31m49s92.png
But by the halfway point things were starting to drag, some jokes were really stale, and one villain stayed around for WAY too long (supposedly he was popular).
For anyone who didn't know, Ryuki was the show that was eventually used as stock footage for the first (modern) Kamen Rider adaptation in the states, which went under the name Dragon Knight (2009).
Notice the year distance? It's something that utterly confuses me to no end. What made them choose THAT season of all things to adapt? You'd think they'd choose something more recent, like say Kabuto (which was the first season filmed in HD).
Dragon Knight is a plain weird show to me for alot of obvious nerd reasons, and it really irks me in some points, but one positive thing I'll say about it is that they were awesome for making Toei mass produce Gelnewt costumes to be used as mooks. I liked that monster (It's in the screenshot above). I wonder what made them choose him, which had to be more costly, instead of the Sheerghosts, the monsters that actually WERE originally mass produced and used as foot soldiers. But having given it a little thought, there's a chance that many of the Sheerghost costumes were kitbashed for the Orphenoch monsters in 555, which was the next season.
The part that gets weirder is that the adaptation was then aired in Japan, dubbed in Japanese. (One of the original actors even comes back to dub over the American version of his character.) But the best part, the music video for the new opening song that was made for the Japanese broadcast of the show. (Yeah, they do that sometimes.)

It's...interesting, I gotta say. Not something I'd think anyone would expect.
