Bretton

hmmm does that mean a demon that is a hunter/slayer? or someone who hunts or slays demons?

December 2nd, 2003, 04:42 AM
I think it's the latter.
but I don't think anyone would mind the first one either...and if you wanna be on the safe side just make a DEmon that hunts/slays other demons :P

His name is Nistob, his tribes chieftan has aged and died so it is Nistob's job to take his place. Before he can do this he must bring back the head of the Gangrelite from the caves deep in the black forests. He begins to track him and his trail is warm.... it must be closer than he thought.

Yours is great Hazzard!
I had to think of Wesley from Angel.
I know I shouldn't post fanart but it is just loosely based on that image:
http://www.buffyworld.com/angel/season5/screencaps/lineage/lineage019.php
I like the idea I had but I can't realize ideas yet. :(
Maybe I'll get back to this in a year or two.
The thing in the left hand (his right) is supposed to be a shotgun pointing at the chin of a demon.

Alright... I had two problems with this one, my hand was shaking  and I only had a fineliner which was too thick :( That's why the face is a bit weird, maybe I'll ink it better tonight. But hey, doesn't matter ;)

Dang Jebus, you and I must have been thinking along the same lines, mine has many similarities although I imagine everyone has had the female slayer (Buffy) image cross their thoughts. A lot of times I'll start a DSG and then get pulled away so this time I thought I would at least throw up the sketch and then replace it with the color if I got time.

I just replaced the original pencil post with the color post hope you enjoy!

This is no ordinary gun he is carrying.. it is a "prayer wheel" gun. It spins sacred parchments at about 20,00rpm to create karma-blasts.
ok, it sounded cool at the time...

hunger artist: awesome, but finish it! just keep it loose, but tighten it up in a few places
I went with the played out idea of an angel who kills demons. here is a quick preliminary, but it will be replaced with the finished piece.

Short of time again. Just a quickie.
Hazzard - Good stuff. I like the narrative, too!
Rockhead - She looks mean. Hope you get the chance to add colour.
Brianl - Not sure why, but that's a very creepy image...
H_A - Sacred parchments at 20,000 rpm? Death by paper cuts! Yeah!
bkmini - Very nice! Hurry up with the finished image!

I haven't done a DSG in awhile, but want to get back into it. He is more of a demon hunter and less a slayer. I guess he is the guy the slayers go to when they need to find the demon. ;)

edited 'cuz I hit the friggin' enter key
Hazzard: Nicely done. The position he's in looks a little uncofortable tho'. Maybe if his legs were under him more?
Signature: Like the start. Can't say too much about the painting, I'm trying teach myself that now. =)
Jebus: Cool idea. I like the costume. =) You have some problems with the anatomy here though.
Rockhead: She's pretty =) Didn't they have a dark haired slayer in a few shows?
JMiau: Cool sketch...I'd love to see it finished!
Sir Sushi: The idea is good...
Vimmzy: Very cool!
Hunger Artist: Nice! And what bkmini said =)
bkmini: That preliminary is beautiful! I can't wait to see it finished!
Matt Dixon: Cool painting! The pic says it all.
Velo: Nice figure, but he kinda needs a background?
Olsen: dude...that's just freakin' pretty...
Plaf: Heh...I like it =)
Bretton: Looks like a cross between Vampire Hunter D and the Nightmare before Xmas...anatomy-wise, it looks like his spine is broken. His legs come out of that coat a little too far to the right.

Plaf: I did about 20 minutes of doodling at first, i wanted her to have a cool hat and im not very good at hats. The markersketch took me about 40minutes, the colors another 40 minutes. So about 100 minutes.
Matt Dixon: Thanks. Your priest looks pretty badass too. :)
Nice work all.

all great dsg's today.. i wish i had time to comment on them all...
thank you for the crits brianl... he does seem a bit vampire hunter d-ish.... im thinking the reason the spine looks twisted is because it isnt really finished and under the coat there is a lot of shadows and therefor a lot of confusion- to try and clear things up: he is facing in one direction... and he is looking off to the side.. his legs start right where the coat opens but they are covered in shadows a bit.. his right leg is crossed behind his right one.. in retrospect though it is a bit of an akward stance... i wanted him to seem a bit graceful and effeminent...if you did understand all that though and it still looks wrong could you please go in to a bit more depth? i dont want to ask too much,, but i do want to improve on my anatomy. thank you

I am amazed, as always, when I view the work here. Inspirational and intimidating at the same time. Some of you guys are downright frightening.
Was drawing a blank for today until I remembered a line in a William Gibson (mebbe Neal Stephenson) book about sanctified nails. Sounded creepy then, works in my brain now. That hammer is just fine for splitting skulls and kneecaps as it is for finishing nails. Here's 15 minutes with Pilot pens and a Sharpie.
It's pretty muddy and I jacked the left hand up (ended up with 6 fingers, and I swear I haven't been watching the princess bride.) I'm still learning, but you guys keep me way motivated to keep working.

Nike - I like the mood. Feels like we're waiting for something to happen...

I woke up early this morning and couldnt get back to sleep - today I'm signing all the papers to move into a new apartment, woooo!! So with the extra time I thought I'd do more of what I originally intended with this. I had been planning to do the hunter and the slayer, which is why he is so pansy with no weapons and he looked like he was talking to someone. So, a ninja update with slayer added.. (adding it to this post for convenience, though it is updated earlier in the thread, too.)
http://www.velondra.com/images/gallery/278demonhunter.jpg
You know it's weird but it occured to me that the traditional roles are kind of reversed here (woman slayer, man non-combat) and without even thinking of it I gave him hair that's somewhat long for a guy and her's is a bit short for a girl (shorter than his). Wonder if that's some kind of freudian slip from deep in my psyche...
William b. Hand
December 3rd, 2003, 12:30 PM
I gave him hair that's somewhat long for a guy and her's is a bit short for a girl
Yeah, but you also gave him a beard, which is wholly masculine, and the concept of short hair being restricted to men/ long hair to women isn't universal (and isn't even universal within our culture anymore).. so I doubt your average Jungian would would conclude gender reversal.
(Not to mention that he just looks like a handsome guy, and she's a beautiful woman...)
