Hello all, I am the project leader of Project Ascension, a total-conversion for Half-Life 2 (which isn't released yet, but is the sequel to Half-Life 1, the game with the world's largest userbase). I am in need of a dedicated concept artist to help me convey ideas to the rest of the staff and to ultimately help me visualize the game as it is envisioned.

Project Ascension is a combined singleplayer/multiplayer first-person shooter that makes use of next-generation gaming software. The mod itself will be futuristic in nature, so the person who I hire will have lots of freedom in design, as long as they keep to some guidelines that I establish. Some things will more or less decided as to how they will look, while some things can be left to be envisioned by the artist him/herself.

The game will be a team-based strategy game, where a team chooses one out of three playable races, builds a base (with equipment, RTS-style structures, etc.) and fight in a VERY large level against another team of equal size (6-16 players, maybe 24 players per team if we can spare the bandwidth on servers). The technical planning is done... our maps will be 256 times larger than Half-Life 1 maps, if that means anything to anyone.

There will be three playable races in the game, as I stated earlier, but I have difficulty describing them without rambling into a mass of information, which is hard to take in all at once. Hopefully, you can understand why I'm looking for help. =0P

The mod's ideas and concepts are concrete, (as far as the limited pocket of staff that understand the mod tells me), and we've delved into great detail in the story.

I'm reluctant to release a whole lot of information in this post, so if you're interested in applying for the job (or even learning more about the game), please catch me on either ICQ or AIM (contact information is available in my profile). The easiest way to get ahold of me, mind you, would be to head down to www.projectascension.org and drop a line in the forums. I'll answer any questions you have (I like questions!).

Regards,

DarkOMEN
Project Ascension

P.S: Our writer has developed some great fiction, which will be available should you ask to read it. All stories written in the PA universe are not tied into the main story... they are independant, used to help people tune into the space-age future that PA envisions.

Everyone:
Hello, I'm --!)R@G()N-- of the Project Ascension staff, currently employed as a writer, 2D artist and leader of the website development team, which is currently busy with Project Ascension's second website, Version II. I'm also spearheading a numerous amount of stories related to the Project Ascension universe—the world is indeed that deep in ideas and concepts—and hoping to better portray the world to the public through my long and short stories.

Let me take a minute to discuss the key points of interest about Project Ascension, and perhaps you can get a better idea of the world that is "PA".

Let's begin with a bit of backstory to the PA universe. Imagine: The year is approximately 2500. Earth is the home of at least well over quadruple its population, compared to today-- 35 billion people are clustered in the expanses that are the world's colonies, rampant across the globe, and 80 billion are scattered across the many star systems. These colonized planets are connected by warp gates—large portals launched from planets that deploy in an auxiliary fashion that allows for travel between colonies—and allow for the nomadic mankind to manifest the vast expanse that is the universe with fierce animality. This system is controlled by the Dominion—the collective of the former world powers: The United States of America, Russia, Israel, China, and so forth—all united in a confederacy of galactic proportions. Severe and hidden animosity rages within the Dominion’s own ranks, as freedom fighters attempt to destroy the system that controls them, while bravely fighting against the six-billion troop war machine that is the Dominion Army above ground and even well under it.

Inexorably united together, the Dominion strives to dominate, but something hinders its goals: An enigmatic alien race is at the forefront, a gathering swarm, a fleet of warships beckoned to the primitive planet that is Earth. The Dominion, in all its glory, must defend its loosely held expanse, in hopes to survive the onslaught.

In Project Ascension, fight as the mobilized and armed Dominion soldiers, the brute force of the Exire of the powerful minds of the Sentra to destroy your enemies in vast, expansive levels—256 times larger than those of the original Half-Life, in a strategic multiplayer setting. Project Ascension combines the strategic elements of a Real Time Strategy, such as gathering resources and commanding troop movements—of real players—or take on your enemies on the frontlines, using a vast arsenal of weapons and abilities.

And the fun doesn’t stop. Project Ascension includes a singleplayer story, where you take command of the research ship Pathfinder, with a marching Dominion hundred-ship escort, as it charts the unknown planet of Terras Prime. Prepare to be thrilled by the intense action and scared by the unknown…

Project Ascension plans to be a evolutionary step in total conversions, providing gamers with content, from gamers, in an online environment where players can speak their opinion about the game and get things changed, under moderation. PA’s unique elements will be easy to get into but hard to master—a perfect yarn for the average to hardcore gamer.

Project Ascension includes…

+ Vast Weapon Arsenals – Use the unique weaponry of the Dominion, fierce physical punishment from the Exire or the psychic powers of the Sentra.

+ Unique Hybrid Gameplay – Providing the best of two worlds: Real Time Strategy (a la StarCraft and the First Person Shooter element naturally found in Half Life 2, Project Ascension allows for the strategic thinker and work horse fighter to combine their efforts in multiple unique gameplay types for hours of fun.

+ Incredibly Large Environments – Half Life 2 allows developers to create massive, engaging levels. Imagine fighting in a full-size city on the ground, a vast forest on the outset of the map and a large underground complex underneath it, all in one map! Almost anything is possible with the HL2 engine.

------

I hope this has assuaged any wonders you may have had. I’ve only covered the basics of this total conversion with awesome potential. Please, do not be afraid to stop by the Project Ascension site at www.projectascension.org (which is currently having server troubles from our host caused by a recent server move) or to contact DarkOMEN or I by e-mail or instant messenger (IM preferred over e-mail). Don’t be shy—we’ll be glad, as DarkOMEN mentioned, to answer any of your questions, which we won’t blame or criticize you for having. Bring ‘em on, and enjoy the PA universe!

Davi:
If you mean this SAVAGE (http://http://www.s2games.com/savage/index.html), I believe you are most mistaken. Please elaborate. Also, I visited your site-- excellent work.

Nick Reynolds:
And why's that?
