Is that a portrait of Frazetta? Did you deliberately give Bettie Page an older look than what we are used to (hardly anyone has seen her since the fifties)? Your caricatures are generally recognizable. The art here is pretty good.

Thanks Dahami for stopping by, Frazetta and Bettie Page were done from reference pictures. The Frazetta, was of course in his earlier years and Bettie Page, I think the photo was taken towards the end of her model career, so she had an older look.

The Obama and Eastwood caricatures are dynamite! Is that Audrey Hepburn in pink? I like that one as well, but make sure the likeness is clear.

I think the angular style works well in some of the caricatures (especially in Ron Paul), but it really becomes a limitation in the zombie works. Those are very stiff and angular. I think you could loosen up and try some more curvy lines, at least in the sketching phase. I don't think you need to get rid of all the straight lines, I just think that getting too involved in them is leaving your gestures and forms unnatural in some places.

Two other things: I think that your color palette is mostly metallic. The only organic colors I see are in the army helicopter. And speaking of that piece, all of the straight lines in that picture leading toward one point in the center makes it look like the scenery is being dragged into a black hole! That's a weird optical illusion you may want to avoid. :)

Big thanks Psychoboy and Eminkey 2003 for stopping by and commenting on the work!

Eminkey 2003,

I think the stiffness comes from a lot of figure drawing from pictures, dealing a lot with shapes and then as a result I get really comfortable with a confined style. On the other note, I see the change when I’m able to sit in a class room with a model and then the result is more organic (gesture) and dealing with a lot more with curves. Hats off to you for pointing that out.

Color is a big weakness at this point for me and I really try to do more personal color projects then B/W. Working in the marketing field sometimes leaves me just grabbing a few minutes to sketch on my tablet and of course it’s B/W values. The Army Helicopter piece, one of a few concept pieces that I did for a studio freelance project was focused on what the client wanted. If I can remember right they wanted to show scale of an alien black crystal in a Nevada desert setting. Looking at it now, I think setting the focus point off to the right or left would have probably been the right move to make.

Thanks for the C&C, always is very appreciated on this end.
