Great start! I really like the details on this guy (http://conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=552243&stc=1&d=1230726507), and his pose. Makes me want to know more about him!

hi
my favorite: the man in the desert,
i see some proportions errors in boxing man:legs are short, head is big. your painting are looser than your drawing
hey the leaning woman in red is cool too, keep it

Thanks for the comments!

Shit, haven't updated this book for long time. I've been lazy and busy with freelance work. Today's sketches:

It's getting kinda lonely in here. Anyway the first one is a quick brush test done after ref and the second one is a WIP I'm planning to take to a more finished level. So crits are more than welcome!

Your work is unique, in that it looks both digital and done in oils or acrylics in other places. I haven't seen much work like this, if any. Unfortunately I have no crits/comments at all, that would be at all beneficial to you.

It looks like you've tried to memorize the muscles to the human figure, but are having difficulty getting them to flow and look operational. I notice this thing in a lot of them where the upper arm/shoulder/chest area looks too connected. I can't imagine a lot of them being able to lift their arms above their heads without tearing some of their muscles in half. I notice this most in images such as the girl in the last one - look at the arm she has hanging by her side, it seems connected to her torso far too low over far too much space. It's difficult to imagine her lifting it like the other one.

Also with the boxer on the bottom, same deal. Another thing I notice is your proportions seem to get a bit off when you draw the human figure at various angles - arms especially seem to get hit pretty hard with this. The arm the girl in the last one is raising seems very small, a fair bit smaller than it should be. I know it's "farther away" than the other one, but only by a small amount, not enough to make it look that small in comparison to the body. The image below the one with the boxers also does something weird with the arms...I can see the muscles and they look basically correct, but something about their portrayed proportions makes it almost look like his arm is broken.

Your good with your paints, the environments and general paintings are really pretty impressive. Your colors, especially - and the style as was mentioned. I'd maybe take a step back from that, though, and try some linework to get your human figure down some more. I'd say the basic portrayal and proportions of it are much more important than all the detailed muscle. In your average human, the muscles aren't ever going to be showing to that degree anyway, or they'll be covered up with clothing. Hence, why your paintings tend to work so well.

Keep going, and don't be afraid to step out of your happy space every so often. Cheers for now.

I agree w/Dahami.. lotsa potential in this SB; I really like this one (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=604014&stc=1&d=1235654199)!

Keep playing with light and workin' on that anatomy; above all, draw draw draw! :D

March 14th, 2009, 08:52 AM
Great start to your sketchbook. Some of the anatomy looks a little odd and stiff in places, but you're putting the practice in and that's what counts. Love the woman in the doorway with the red pants.

Grandmassa: thanks, yep many problems with that painting but it's probably easier to start a new one than fixing it.

hitnrun: thanks

Two listen: Thanks for the comment, yep my anatomy and drawing skills suck but i started working on them!

Dahami: ty!

AmontilladoAg: thanks, that one was done for my country's independance day!

Kristo Novo, maeshanne, Fumble, Munin Raven: thanks,

Anyway I started drawing and learning anatomy again. I've been copying bridgman with pencils and photos in photoshop. Most of my time was spent on this piece. Started it from scratch around 3 times and and after 5 hours of work repainted most of it. It's still a messy sketch :S I don't know why but working on this painting has been really frustrating. Finally I feel like I'm getting somewhere but there's is still alot of work ahead.

I love the colors that you use, and the style is awesome. Watch out for those pesky perspective things on some pieces. And, like has been pointed out, a lot of your figures don't seem to flow. But, you're doing great! And I love your imagination.

Nice updates man, love your colour ideas, do you use a photo for inspiration? Nice canvas texture effect too.

Your CHOW is coming a long nice, I actually think the body's good I like the simple painting effect! I think the face needs work, looking a bit smooth/blendy - possible the eye is too white? Not sure, sorry I am a noob at characters lol.

Verehin, thx

Created some new brushes yesterday and rediscovered some old ones. The first two are quick sketches/brush tests. Today I repainted an old sketch.

Nice work! Environments are coming out nicely. Don't beat yourself up about starting paints over completely from the beginning... If it isn't right, it isn't right, and you'll be much happier in the end struggling through it twice as long and being happy!

On another note, careful with your noses! Couple times they're too big..
