Spend the hole Weekend to finish this piece ... allover i guess 15hours.

Except the initial sketch(about 6cm) this is all done in PS7 - Fullsize 4800*3600px.

really nice attention to details.

the rocks on the lower left hand corner seems flat to me compare to the rest of the image imho.

This one rocks, in many senses! I work in Painter and I have no idea how someone can get those mind-boggling textures out of Photoshop.

If I may say, the snail is too sharp-edged if compared to the rest of the pictures. I wish its outlines were more subtly suggested, as you did with the guitar player.

But that's me, I like keeping stylized. Most people will ask you to sharpen the guitar player out, instead of softening the snail ;)

Cool one, anyways :cool:

Cheers,

Paulo

Paulo, thx for the critique.
Jep, every second person seem to see this difference - no matter if they are profs or just some non-art-related persons.

So i fixed the Gnom a bit ... hope its better now.
*just push F5 once .. old version is here:

Well, i really like Photoshop7's Brushengine - its a powerful tool, but you dont have as good predefined tools as Painter or as many options - so you have to think more of how to combine those some tools if you want to paint some mind-boggling textures.
- But well, i have my respect for all people can handle Painter ... its not my way - too much different things, i prefer clear structures, even if they are not as powerfull.

mushuhaha, thx for your critique too, but i didn't see it and no other told me about it yet.
So i dont see the need to fix it.
But thx anyway!

And thx for all the positive feedback, too. ;)

hehehe, that's fine.

not really related, but i'v a few questions about photoshop. do you know how to change the size of customized brushes in ps? can i make brushes out of a certain part of a picture? i'm still using ps6, dunno if it's the same as ps7.. sorry about the off topic.

duracel, I like not only the execution but also the concept for this painting. Where did you get the inspiration? I mean, this isn't a "usual" subject. Are there more to come? Is this guitar player a wanderer whose adventures you are going to illustrate?

@mushuhaha
This is one of the most important changes from PS 6 to 7. Its not possible in 6 to scale a custombrush automatically.
And yes, you can define all you have as brush - just select a part of an image and click under "edit -> define brush". (But brushes are in PS only possible as greyscale.)

@Jester
Its just an idea came up while i was not able to sleep. ;)
Well, i dig large mushrooms and i really like how musicians look if they play for themselves - so easy, so free, so lovely and innocent - its just something other than Heroes, sexy Girls and Monsters in pictures as you can see everywhere. ;)

Well, its in a way a Dream - i wish i could change with this guy. :)
Especially i like the feeling of no need to hurry in this one - its something i take care of in my own life, not to get caught by the whirlpool of events.
And this is a also the message in this one(this does not mean this is painted as a message, but if i think about it, it must be the reason i choosed this theme to work out) that people have to think more of the beauty of the moment, the feeling of natur-silence, of co-existing instead of being hostile against all and everybody.
Just hearing the grass growing.
