This is part 5 of the series, but seems to be the most
informative. The previous ones have more shock value.
Ever notice how a lot of people of authority have these traits?
Makes you rethink what is normal?

I just think there's a correlation between these 2 videos.
Eh, so people don't take an interest in the subject matter.
It's hard to get people's attention when you're out in left field.
I didn't want to bump this thread, but I thought I throw this video in here.
Listen to the last 25 percent of it at least:

Well, you got at least one interested person here. :D
Then again, I'm a psych major, so . . . you might be preaching to the choir just a tad. :)
EDIT: I agree, there is a definite correlation between those two videos. Especially in his talking about how we aren't led by visionaries. I would disagree there--Ray Croc was a definite visionary, and he made McDonald's of all things :D (his autobiography is fascinating by the way). On the speaker, I find it interesting that he's got a great big screen behind him magnifying himself in an apparently small gathering--no huge echoes, and everybody sounds close together. I might be reading too much into it, though, since I just saw the video on narcissism. Interesting stuff. :)

OK, for those of you that are into tabloid journalism, this is pretty juicy.
OK, obviously I'm displaying obsessive compulsive disorder.
For those of you that are going crazy at school and/or work, this might
explain a lot.

Thank you for these, NoSeRider. As a totally unselfish and benevolent God-like being, I'm intrigued by the opinions of the coarser peons that surround me at all times...
:P:P:P:P:P:P:P
In all seriousness, I, for one, do find the subject fascinating. Thank you.

I'm not sure I believe the man interviewed. It seems he's joking too often.

I think its interesting how many of those traits are totally championed in western culture. It's like a laundry list description of traits our culture deems admirable, or at least attractive. I remember getting in an argument with my roommate my Sophomore year in college as to why it was bad that he was arrogant, and I really couldn't make him see. Now look at teenagers...I think just being a teenager should be classified as a personality disorder :P , but beyond that you have an entire marketing structure and media industry set up to feed on the desires of their developing personalities. This doesn't require conspiracy theories or any overtly sinister plots, it's just how marketing and culture capitalism works. Its funny how the first video was talking about how hard it was to find an interviewable "level 9" Narcissist...how about nearly any of those girls from "My Super Sweet 16"

Let me make clear here that I'm not trying to criticize Eugene Delacroix personally here. Not only did I not know the man, but even at a distance of 150 years I don't see any evidence that he was a monster or any kind of social predator. What I'm getting at is a more general subject to wit, that I suspect there's an affinity of sorts between art and narcissism.
Obviously, the payoffs of being a successful artist are, in the vast majority of cases, more psychic than financial. They certainly were for Delacroix, who according to Baudelaire had to watch what he spent fairly carefully. But the psychic payoffs of art exactly match those the narcissist is seeking: public recognition, status, feelings of omnipotence (at least within the zone of his or her creative work), the envy of others, etc. It would be surprising if art didn't attract disproportionately those who value precisely the rewards art has to offer.

Eugene Delacroix french painter of 19th century.
I just discovered this thread. I thought about making a new thread, but, eh, I've already laid the groundwork.
Let's see if the narcissists get offended? I know I am.

There's a great book this called 'Neurosis and Human growth' by Karen Horney. I highly recommend it if you want to get an understanding of these types of personalities. There's a lot more to it than this.
