I've seen a lot of sculptures with texturing (scales, bumps, skin, hair, etc) patterns that are used throughout the needed areas.

I've been wondering how you make these patterns; Supposedly they're made with a 'stamp'-like tool, but I have yet to see any such thing in a store, or any such tutorial on creating one from scratch.

The reason I ask is because I'm working on a coiled snake-like sculpt, and know that a good even pattern for the scales, would just make the end result so much better.

Anyone know anything about it? I know this is the forum for tips & tricks. :)

From what I understand, most of these stamps are custom made with sculpey or other such material.

I had a tutorial bookmarked that you might find useful, scroll down for the section on scales but the whole thing is rather good.

Hope it helps!
