I was wondering which version of adobe is the one most used on this site. I want to buy adobe photoshop but I'm new to the whole deal so I'm not sure which one to get, but I do know I'm not about to drop the dough for CS4. I think CS3 is the one I want but there are different editions.

Been asked a lot. Search function.

CS4. If you want CS3, get standard. You'll not have any use for the extended options.

I guess what I'd like to know is what comes with cs3, does it come with more programs than just photoshop, such as flash? And what is a good price for it, I've seen cs3 it at different sites ranging from $200 - $999. There is also a student edition, I've heard there isn't much difference between that and the normal edition, true?

No. You can get one of the suites, which will give you Photoshop/Flash/Illustrator/etc, but if you just purchase Photoshop that's what you get.

There's two versions of CS3; Standard and Extended. Extended has a bunch of extra options you'll never use and is significantly more money. You'll want to get Standard.

As far as student versions go, they are the same exact program. There is not one difference between the software. The difference is in the licensing. You can't use a student version of the software for commercial work; so if you're planning on selling your art or working commercially, then by law you can't do it under a student version of the software.
