pheonix queen ( lots of pics )

hey guys ive been working on this for a few weeks its for a mod im working on ( www.shadow-phoenix.com ) and ive finally finished it after 3 hours of inking. crits and comments plz

well, it doesnt really resemble anything anywhere near a phoenix, since those are according to mythology birds that are associated with fire and are reborn from ashes. I don`t really like the first one, it lacks depth and it`s just a bit uninteresting. I do really like the sketches/

One more thing though. Although your website is properly named shadow-phoenix, you put shadow-phEOnix under every one. Why?

well with the mod im working on we are going for a differant look for the phoenix. and in the story the queen has her wings shot off. and the signiture where it says "pheonix" is just a mistake.

The snake-man looks very cool,but the alien-elephant-seal is also funny.

fungi: Your attitude seems asthough you've taken offense to SinisteR's comments. It's a comment on some of your drawings, if you have taken offense to it, do not. I'm sure that was not the intention. Your reply back to him was dry and unprofessional. This thread is not about his avatar, it is however, about your phoenix-shadow.

My C&C: I have to agree with SinisteR. The concept drawings are very, very nice. But the final ink looks over done. I'm sure the 3 hours you put in to the inking were, unfortunately, not entirely needed. As I said, I like the concepts. They're consistent and well developed, the character is not however. He, to me, looks like Jabba the Hut's cousin, or something of the sort. (Perhaps the Hut on 'roids). You've definitly have skills, and I'd love to check out your website. And I will, just not tonight as I've got other thigns to attend to.

Again, great concepts fungi. Well done.

The phoenix is not frightening. Looks overweight.

The snake drawing is attractive. The 3d model has boobs. Dump the boobs and give it a flatter, reptilian chest. make the arms match the drawing more. Wider cuffs on the hands.

Anyhow, great work Fungi. I like the inked ones, i would have managed 1/10th of that before giving up. The sketches are good too.

They look very nice to me. Good concept..but maybe a bit too detailed..cos' it's just a concept..not fine art(I hope).....and hope not that that 3d version is a finished one..because it doesn't look nearly as good as your sketch...especially the muscles don't look right you have clearly made it flow with that snakeguy...but he has to make rings of those lower muscles..and that(sorry)..look just baaad too me....good luck with it.

Edit: looked again...and that 3d model looks more awful everytime i see it(sorry again)....the necks not right(ring, again).. an the hands have lost completly the grudgy feel of shape you gave them.....please o please tell me that's defenitly not the finished model.....

lol right here we go. thnx for the replies all, i admit i really do need to stop working into things too much, i wouldnt worry about the detail for the actual concept at the moment tho cus ill do less detailed front and side profiles for the modeller .

the model of the pheonix isnt finished yet but its allmost there, most of the detail i did will be added with the skinning. lol the "boobs" only look like boobs cus of the angle, they are actually quite flat. the queen herself wasnt meant to be frightening really, shes just fat and full of eggs :) . in the mod she has to be rescued from the evil marines so we wanted her to look fat helpless like a slow moving beached whale sorta thing lol.

and yeah i did take offence to his reply, mainly because of his nitpicking. oh and i forgot to mention, when the actually pheonix's respawn, they wall appear in a flash of fire.

But you could have expected someone to comment on the name when you name a bloated alien after a gothic flaming bird :) Dont answer crits or comments by attacking that persons artwork.. Even if they cant draw, they have opinions.

I think that it is good to remember that there is no "right" way to draw/paint/whateva. For me the message is more importain than the actual work (My handwriting for exsample).
You obiusly put alot of work in those images wich isn't a bad thing and you shouldn't be discurage if someone has a fixed view of what is "right" and "wrong"
