Can someone direct me to a good Heads Up Display tutorial? Something on how to make the glowing panels and the holographic feel. I have seen it in many illustrations but never really caught on on how to make it.

is this for a texture in a game just for illustrations/conceptart? I ask because I'm trying to figure out if your going to need alpha channels (what game designers use to make things transparent in games). If you could post a picture with the feel your going for I'll see what I can do.

layer effects; outer glow

bam your set

throw on some "screen" or "overlay" layers and your golden.

Assuming you are going for scifi, look at fighter-jet huds, they are super cool. Some car dashboards are also super inspirational, although not quite huds. Simpler shapes are alot easier to work with in general, and make sure you are thinking of how the graphics change over time. Will the bars change hue as you loose health, will the character portrait show physical damage? that kind of dips into the realm of "game design", but isn't forbidden from the art team.

Normally I'd attach images, but I don't know who owns the rights to these; found all via google;

Thank you and sorry for the SUPER DYNAMIC DELAY in response :-)

Very cool images JuTO I like some of the glows. I can see where I can get some inspiration from those.

Actually Roninboarder this is for illustration not for games. The look I am trying to achieve is the Minority Report look. Pretty much a scene where someone is standing in front of a rectagular glowing panel with dials. Or they are using their wrist band that emanates a glowing panel. I am not looking for how the person is actually drawn but the panel itself. As I am saying it, it sounds like a simple task but the HUD in some images and movies I have seen really look elaborate. Odd thing is I have not seen one tutorial on the creation of a glowing HUD with dials and stuff.

you could try painting with hard brush then go back with soft or semi soft brush over it to make it 'glow'.

If you have Painter, you want FX > Glow brush on a separate layer.

More controllable than a filter.

You can probably get the same effect with the burn tool in PS.

I'd airbrush it myself.
