My dad has a PhD in child psychology. He says it's a soft science. You can conduct experiments and get results, but interpreting those results is always open to debate, and "Life isn't a controlled experiment."
At any rate, psychology as a subject is much wider than those racists mentioned in the film.

This isn't exactly an unbiased documentary.
Psychiatry: An Industry of Death is a museum in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, USA, as well as several touring exhibitions.[1] It is owned and operated by the Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR), an anti-psychiatry organization founded by the Church of Scientology

lol its funny that scientology singles out phyciatry when that intstitution employs more mind control tactics than any other on earth. What is their overall purpose with this do you think?
I agree that phycology has a place in science although not on the same level as physics or somthing. The chemical holocaust affects all branches of medicine as well imo.

To make the initiates think they (Scientologists) are trustworthy. Many people don't have much faith in psychologists so they are easy preys to cults who reinforce that belief.
I agree with what is said before, psychology is something of a Mickey Mouse science...psychologists sometimes have different conclusions on how to diagnose or treat disorders. I guess it depends on if they are getting paid bonus money by drug companies.

Psychology is not psychiatry, the spelling in this thread is confusing. My first psychology class opened with a video of Tom Cruise explaining to a talk show host that chemical imbalances are not real. The first test had the question asking if there are chemical imbalances, the answer was yes. Anyway point is, Scientology is a joke, and is used as one in classrooms. The fraud of psychiatry looks pretty bogus to me. Not that I watched much. I was also taught in psych 104 that horrible things were done to people, and there is a dark past to the whole thing. What I'm getting at is that whats taught today is not what was going on 60+ years ago.
Anyway, I forget the name of the show Tom Cruise was on, but it was hilarious. I never took Scientology serious, but now I just laugh. Everyone should see it.

The whole shabang is a scam anyhow. (wiki citation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L._Ron_Hubbard#cite_note-TIME3-2-80))

hehehe, if was fixed but we're gonna rock the phychiatry thing. I don't think I'll ever forget that word now. Institute of Phychiatry (http://www.u-s-hospitals.com/hospitals/138508.htm). Maybe I'll get my degree in phyciatrics.

There are three terms that shouldn't be confused with each other:
Psychology (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychology)
Psychiatry (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychiatry)
Psychotherapy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychotherapy)
Concerning the movie - history of medicine was pretty gruesome at certain points too. That doesn't mean all medicine is evil, now does it?
Psychology is an umbrella term of all the sciences dealing with the workings of the brain. Some of them are "soft" (like Counseling psychology, personal psychology, etc.), some very "hard" (like neuropsychology, evolutionary psychology, physiological psychology, comparative psychology, etc). But one thing's for sure - it's a science, and it works as such - theories aren't widely accepted until there's enought trustworthy evidence to make a rational conclusion.

Whatever Tom Cruise has to say is trustworthy enough for me. The man IS an actor people.
