Hi All,

I've just done a painting on canvas with oil and a pallet knife and I was wondering how easy it would be to do the same sort of thing with photoshop - not using an effect or anything but with brushes?

I've had a look on the internet for some brushes that I can use that would produce the same effect as a pallet knife but haven't really found anything, I was wondering if anyone here could point me in the right direction?

It’s not easy to obtain the pallet knife emulation you're looking for within Photoshop.

Elongate a round brush (into a sharp ellipse), set the spacing low (1 to 5), and set the angle control to pen tilt (if your tablet supports it).

You’ll be able to control this like your natural media pallet knife, but the results will look very “digital” (clean). Other brush tutorials should give you an idea of how to add more variation to this simple setup.

Your best bet, however, is to not use Photoshop at all. ArtRage has pretty good oil emulation (both brush and pallet knife). The download (http://www.ambientdesign.com/artragedown.html) is free and it suits your purpose.

Hope this helps.
