I have recently began to wonder what software Production Houses like DreamWorks SKG and Disney use to do their 2D Animations. Does anyone know the software that is used for traditional animation today? I've never much gotten into 2D Animation and was just curious. Any help would be much appreciated.

I think DW and Disney use their own softwares for animation, but don't wuote me on that. ToonBoom is an industry favorite. Retas Pro is also used but not as much (I really liked working with it tho). When it comes to line tests, X-sheet is pretty useful. Hope that helps ! :)

Thanks for the info, I think I read somethin on ToonBoom while at the Wacom website, I also read that DW uses Linux and alot of their animation software is tailor written for that software. I was just curious about it cause I remember something about a computer program for 2D animation, but couldn't remember the name. Thanks for the insight though.

Well ..Dyoung i liked ur art a lot , it has it's own realm ,let me tell you something i learned that may b helpful to you,i always wanted to practice animation especially 2d and mayb some mix between 2d and 3d art ,i had a hallarious passion for new prgrams ,when i just begin on lerning a program and i just hear about a new prog elsewhere i switch immidiatly, after a while i felt lost in some way ,so focus on one program ,and c the output with your own dimension and let your passion fuels your technical abilities.
B.T,W most animation programs have an exponential abilities what differ from one another is the feasability to do a specific task.
what i use is Adobe after effects and Adobe prmiere,
i hope my advice is a little useful...

Thank you very much for the compliment. YOur advice was very helpful. I have recently begun to teach myself Maya, and am pretty much concentrating on that right now. I've been trying for so long to break into the Gaming Industry and have finally resigned myself to the fact that I will have to know a 3D program if I am ever to be hired by a gaming company. Thanks again for your great advice.

Scaramouche-
Yes, I totally agree. In the short time I have been studying Maya, I can see how great a program it is. There is so much to learn, and honestly it is a bit overwhelming. I am currently reading the book Maya 4.5 by Savvy, and find that it is very helpful. Thanks for the sites by the way, I appreciate it very much. :chug:
